  1. I had this issue recently and this post helped me out out massively. I replaced the ccm myself and I can now drive in the rain once again. Although my tailgate release doesn't work.... Would this be related to the ccm?
  2. Well I haven't started it since taken that video yesterday, hopefully get it recovered tomorrow. I got a price for a replacement turbo - £399+vat (I guess that's for a refurb'd unit) I will make more calls tomorrow for other prices. I hadn't noticed any loss of performance and this is my second Fabia Vrs! I'm just keen to get it sorted so that I don't have to drive my Mum's Peugeot 206 any longer than I have to
  3. Thanks for your help supulchrave. I've just taken the air filter out - The metal has rusted and become very brittle, I take it the metal frags have gone through the turbo and eroded the vanes? Will the car be ok to run to get it recovered?
  4. It probably doesn't help being inside a multi-story car.....
  5. I have a cotton panel filter if that's what you mean.
  6. Hi guys, I've been through a few "turbo problem" threads and I can't seem to find any that have the exact same issues and as I'm having. Driving home from work tonight I noticed a lack of power, after turning the radio down I could here the turbo whistling quite loudly, I instantly looking behind me for a big puff of smoke - which there wasn't any. Only being a few hundred yards from home so parked up and turned it off to check the inter cooler pipes to see if one of them had popped off but they all seam to be ok.. Here is a video of the noise Any thoughts?? Is this imminent turbo failure? I guess it's a good idea not to start/drive the car and run the risk of the turbo vanes breaking and getting into the engine?
  7. I'm not sure it's the same with yours but on the vRS the actual glass part is within a plastic case with some metal prongs on the back. If this is the same, all you have to do is pull the old one off (carefully) and slot in the new one. If your's is electric then don't forget to disconnect the lead for the heated part when taking the old mirror off and obviously reconnecting it before fitting the new one. Hope it helps
  8. If they're metal caps that have been left on for a while, they're more than likely corroded to the metal part of the valve from the salt on the roads recently. I had this problem once, think I used lots of WD40 and once it had worked in, a socket - it shouldn't matter too much if the valve twists.
  9. yes they do have CCTV, I've seen them, but only on the main M23 bit where the south terminal is, not on/before the slip road on the A23 where it happened, but if they were to see his driving I'm sure they'd have a word.
  10. It's ok, I can out run a bullet in my little furby Im a bit calmer today and am in a happy mood so will take a different route home to save any conflict!
  11. As the title suggests beware of a Black Ford Mondeo ST220 VRM- EF05 ...!! I was nearly forced off the road twice by it, once on the approach to the slip road, it tried to side swipe me, then after frantically flashing them (with the main beam that is), they did it again on the slip road itself. This happened on A23 slip road to the M23a going past Gatwick airport @ 17.10 this evening, then they headed north bound on M23 towards Croydon/M25 and I was heading the other way. I've notified the police as I didn't know what to do. They said they'd look into it and let units know in the area - thing is as he didn't hit me and unless he's driving the same way they won't be able to do anything. If I see it again, (as I have seen it a couple of times now on the same route home) I'd like to express my..............................................displeasure to them, so if anyone knows who it is, send them my way!! Oh and if anyone does see them out and about, be careful, he drives like an absolute ****!! Rant over, (for now)
  12. How come they didn't pick up the starting fault then?? Granted I forgot to tell them though! Going back on the 5th Jan so can tell them then.
  13. I'm sure most modern clutches are hydraulic, IIRC that means that the biting point shouldn't change unlike a normal cable operated clutch. I think modern hydraulic systems have a self adjusting thingy on them too so the biting point will always be the same. There might be a change in hardness by getting spungier (if thats a word) to the pedel once the clutch has started to go as the hydraulic fulid has longer to travel! I'm no expert so don't quote me on any of that,
  14. Hi, Just a quicky, I had my Fabia serviced by the dealer Monday just gone, i just wondered, do they do a diagnostic test during the service at all? Cheers Steve
  15. Oh dear, got the truck tested at VOSA, they've said that M.A.N didn't register any of their engines with TfL for some reason or other and that means our engine is not registered as Euro II and because of that TfL will NOT let us use it in the LEZ! Aparently, even if the vehicle is just blowing pure air out, it still wouldn't be allowed as M.A.N. hasn't registered it! Not a happy bunny, just as I thought I were getting somewhere and sticking to the man, then powers that be have kicked me right back down again! Anyway, I am determined to get it sorted, Anybody know of someone that does 'Particulate/particular filters' for the exhaust?? Any help on this would be great, and thanks to you guys that have already replied!
  16. Option D sounds interesting, although I could use some flame throwers at the front to get those T**** that stay in the middle lane all the way down the M23!!
  17. Ignoring the current climate, the price of timber has gone up!
  18. Thanx for all your replies guys, Took the M.A.N. to the local garage that used to service it, (I say used to because they were a little expensive and didn't actually sort the trucks out for HGV MOT) they tested the emmisions. The result I didn't really understand, but what I did understand, the limit is 0.4 (of something) for being LEZ compliant in London, our truck was running 0.2, and some help in the aid of an engine additive would lower it further. The garage is not VOSA approved so have booked into a VOSA testing station to get a LEC (low emmisions certificate) this tuesday coming! As the MOT isn't due til Oct'09 its costing £29 rather than £17 which is the usual price if the test is done at the same time. :thumbdwn: But on the up side, pending a pass of the test, we can use the vehicle to go to London and not pay for it , (apart from the congestion charge of course )
  19. I watched a programme the other day about the BMW diesel engine with one of them, also a particulate filter that limits the black smoke from the unburnt diesel through the exhaust! I'll be honest, I don't know much about the current engine in the truck, but I assume the EGR route is what we're being quoted big money on! I've spoken to our local truck garage and they say that it may not even need one, they're going to check the emmisions and possibly change the ECU settings which they can do apparently!
  20. I haven't looked into it in great detail, so correct me if I'm wrong, I think you take the vehicle to VOSA and they'll retest it and go from there. The problem is they charge you £200.00 each and every time you go into London in the low emmisions zone! I'm getting quotes for convertions but @ £3-4k +vat  it's cheaper in the short term to run into the zone for £200.00 in this financially economic time.
  21. Hi, I've had an idea, Not sure if it would work  IIRC there are new rules for lorry's and trucks to be Euro V compliant to travel into the city of London, think its called the Low emmisions rule or something like that, my question is, can you remap a vehicle to lower its emmisions?? Well in my case a 7.5 tonne lorry?? Any ideas welcome??
  22. I just thought I'd update this, Spoke to a reliable source this morning and they said the starting problem could be something to do with the coolant warning sensor, something about if its too cold it will not turn over the engine! Can anyone confirm this?? Thanks for the replys guys, I haven't had a chance to get to the dealers yet, so thought i'd check here 1st
