  1. I bought my VRS way back in April 2009 and it is now up for sale if you are interested, although only a few posts I have been a member since 2008 when I owned my MK1 VRS. It is an estate version with 18'' alloys finished in red, engine spec is standard VRS with 53K on the clock, 2007 (57) plate and in excellent condition, if you are interested let me know, I'm out all weekend unfortunately. In standard format, being economical the MPG gauge reads almost 50mpg, as for handling I find that the MK2 does not handle as well as the MK1, I guess that the Ford will be much better
  2. I've not towed a caravan before, but my VRS has been used to tow a race car on a trailer, approx weight 900kgs, the car is more than capable of this and tows without effort, the MPG return averages about 30-35MPG on a good run. However I have found a downside with the VRS, with its large wheels and low profile tyres makes it a poor performer on damp grass, a common habitat to park a caravan . I now use a 4x4 as most of the venues I visit are on grass.
  3. My VRS gurgles when nearly full, I usually leave it at that to avoid the splash back
  4. Any idea of what it is this device is looking for?
  5. Bought ny car from Meadons in Sway, very good service, even went back there for its first sevice, even though Sparshatts are 5 minutes up the road for me, had several dodgy dealings with them, never again.
  6. Collegue at work has had good fortune with 'Swift', claim sorted in good time. Elephant is no longer an option for me, they will not give me 'Business class 1' due to the job I do, despite charging me for the privilage for the past 3 years!! Error highlighted at renewal, despite being clearly shown on the schedule.
  7. Have been insured via 'Elephant' for the last 3 years, good service, but have just saved £140 by going to 'Swift Cover'. Cars insured were MK1 VRS and then MK2 VRS diesel.
  8. Have always used Autoglym, especially for our older classics, picked up a 'Lifeshine kit' at an autujumble for £3 well worth the hard work applying all the kit, I was quoted £250 by the dealer to have this done as with other replies would reccomend washing the car yourself, I now use one of these wash mits, much better at getting rid of bug splats.
  9. Have 19k on the clock, about 3mm left, probably have to change them later this year.
  10. It's probably the bushes on the ARB, I had this on mine, took ages to find where the noise was coming from, when the bushes are shot there is nothing to stop the ARB moving to the left or right, beware if it shuffles to the left as it will tap on the turbo ancillery area on the RHS.
  11. I'm going to get some winter tyres for next year, I already have some M/S knobblies for the rally car, but unfortunately they won't fit the Octy. :'( If you have a car with ABS, cadence breaking will have little effect, as this is what the ABS system does at a much faster speed, however when becoming a passenger in your own car when you are supposed to be driving, I'd probably try anything aswell. :S
  12. Ha Ha, I thought only buses did this, often leaving several feet of snow at traffic lights.
  13. The best recorded was 45mpg, a 200mile trip a couple of years ago from Norwich back to Hampshire, unfortunately it ended with a breakdown, car that is.
  14. Used to have this problem when I had my first VRS, only happened on a few occasions when slow speed driving around an estate doing alot of stop/starts.
  15. Similar to above, my Octy VRS has the job of towing the race car, although the VRS has a faster top end speed, it cannot out accelerate the race car which is only 1300cc.
  16. I'm assuming that it is valve failure, no visual evidence to proove otherwise. May be requiring doner engine, my promise of one seems to have gone awol.:( Now having to rely on Pug' 205 as service vehicle for the Silverstone Classic weekend.
  17. A piece of the valve stem was sitting on the turbo inlet, so I guess the smaller unaccounted for bits have already been through it. The combustion chamber is quite badly damaged, most valve seats damaged, a piece of valve/stem is actually stuck under one of the inlets.
  18. Head off this weeked, not very good at all. Couldn't focus on the piston, even the camera was scared. By the way that valve is embedded quite deep there, a piece of valve stem was sitting on the gate into the turbo, fragments also found in No 3 chamber. Hopefully a promised engine is still available, but I suspect by rumours heard, that he has sold it. What to do, the value of the car if OK is probably the cost of a good engine plus bits to fit, new unit from Skoda is £3500.
  19. Been dry all day down south, fortunately. Car won't fit in garage, have gazebo on standby:thumbup:
  20. Will update as we go, working away next week, hopefully get a little further tomorrow, the lure of an ice cold 'Magners' whilst sitting in the sun seemed the better option.
  21. Head not off just yet, just need to get 'ribe' drive socket to remove head bolts. Problem is in No 2 cylinder.
  22. All will be revealed tomorrow I hope, I only have the dealer say-so on this, I work away from home and tomorrow will be the first opportunity to get the car back home and inspect it ourselves. The breakdown was very undramatic, but that is the way it goes
  23. Car is standard, has not been over rev'ed, for the past month or so taking it easy when travelling away for work, actually managed an indicated 45.3 mph on a 220m trip on super!! Mostly m-way/dual roads though. When car broke down I was doing approx 50mph on a winding A road following other traffic, it simply miss-fired then cut out, not noisy at all, so i guess it's an inlet gone.
  24. Unfortunately my 02 VRS broke down on Friday, as I work away from home it was left with the dealer to fault find, apparently it has one broken valve, has anyone had this happen before? Will get car back Saturday and remove head to investigate damage, will report back.:(
