  1. Do any CAVE engined gearbox oil change/ECU update owners have an issue with the update. The gearbox has now become lazy, holding onto gears longer?? This equates to the car going around corners in such a high gear it needs to drop 2/3 cogs before it picks up. The way the car changes gear upon kickdown has changed and it feels like the car accelerates slower. Makes me wish i'd NOT done the 'recall'...
  2. Just received a letter from Skoda Customer Quality and Network Development. (abridged) As part of regular product monitoring Skoda has found that vehicles with a DSG 7speed gerbox filled with synthetic oil can lead to an internal short circuit...In order to prevent a possible breakdown, we would like to offer you a free precautionary check with any Skoda repairer...If necessary, your gearbox oil will be changed to mineral oil...performed free of charge...We strongly recommend you take up this offer to avoid any inconvenience you may occur if the vehicle develops this condition...We are sure you will appreciate the need of this precautionary measure... Came in an envelop with a Skoda and Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency emblems
  3. Check with your insurance...mine will not allow a wrap as they deem it a modification!!
  4. I came from a ph1 172 fella..personally I'd try out the Clio 200 if u can't wait for the new 1.6. Why, because you will be shocked how the vrs handles compared to the 172, they are worlds apart. Bearing in mind my vrs is the estate, it handles like a bus, compared to the Clio's go cart cornering..performance wise the vrs maybe quicker 0-60, but rolling acceleration or private road stuff the Clio leaves it..the vrs when you boot it seems to rev it's tits off but doesn't move, feels like clutch slip in a manual. Steering input has no feed back in the vrs, and the brakes are not up to the job for the power output/weight, a 172 will stop on a dime with no drama..I've had the vrs sideways whilst braking..A lot of the issues are down to the weight differences 172 coming in at 1084kg vs 200 kg more for the vrs on and the fact u can wear a top hat in the vrs. The vrs for the price is great fun, but it isn't the giant killer a lot on here think it is!
  5. BIG job apparently...search for techies response to the same question asked
  6. What I'm getting at Newbie is that there is a massive variation on vRS oil usage. Within THIS forum alone some engines not even requiring a drop of oil between services and others that have to tow an oil tanker. This isn't down to the way people drive their cars...I have a very short journey to work, but extend the journey every other day to blast it out yet mine uses more than the 600ml/1000km norm :(
  7. Because they are DIFFERENT types of engine...Why not compare oil usage to a two stroke engine whilst were at it!!
  8. Hmmm oil and petrol advances alone in the last 20 years have made a MASSIVE difference to engine and maintenance....when was the last time u needed to de-coke an engine?? Manufacturing technology has meant that engines are built to higher tolerances etc emission legislation has forced manufactures to make advances within the last ten years nevermind 20!!!
  9. Quite correct... And just because the engine is twin charged doesn't mean squat...its a 4 cylinder petrol engine at the end of the day, that has been badly designed. Why do i say that well the manual states 600ml per 1000km is within tolerances why? If this engine has been designed to drink oil, why doesn't EVERY vRS suffer oil usage?? Dont say its the way its been driven, as the manual clearly states it WILL use oil?!? There are only 1658 vRS registered in the UK...I bet there are a high percentage of these with oil issues outside of the design spec...my local dealer has fixed 5 so far.. Would I choose this engine type again....no chance... Would I buy a used TSI....LOL as above!!
  10. £130 each, and they only have two of them...
  11. LMAO...i've never seen so many scotchblocks on a wiring loom!!
  12. So how did they fix it the first time?? :wonder:
  13. Fella you've posted this in the wrong section....doesn't bode well for u doing ur own mechanic
  14. There is a post on here with a video of the conversion BUT it's a dash out and a new wiring loom and load of other gubbins vent valves etc...Massive job
  15. Had my instrument binacle buzz fixed by the local dealer, worked for 6months then it returned during the blistering summer we've just had...homemade wedges appear a better fix
  16. Just shake it...as Grizzle said its a liquid wax, yes it says paste on the bottle but it I know of no other substance called a paste that pours!! oh and mine seperated last year and is fine just shuck up!!
  17. Had my annual serivice on Friday by my local dealer, was told they have had 5 Fabia vRS with oil issues.1 was a new engine, 1 was rings and the other 3 were breather pipe fixes..Anyhow they are doing the oil consumption trial on mine now for the next 300miles...Was a bit gutted to be told this as i'd supplied my own oil and would have prefered them to use Quantum for the test, as no doubt they will refill it with Quantum (no pleasing some people) :S
  18. Weird I could have sworn there was a member on here with a steel grey vRS...but looking at the Skoda website Grey isn't an option http://www.skoda.co.uk/gbr/newcars/fabiavrshatch/exterior/colours/Pages/default.aspx
  19. I don't run anything but vpower...er apart from 20quids worth of 95 during the fuel shortage. I'll see if any shows up on the diag when in for the service. Thinking about it, a few months ago it lost power (maybe misfire) for one second whilst accelerating hard...I nearly headbutted the windscreen then snapped my neck back in a nanosecond...most bizarre and painful!
  20. I'd reached my destination so was parked not for that reason, luckly.
  21. Nothing lit up at all, no misfires, was going up a 20%climb, and couldn't understand where the power had gone!! Not sure I need to clean the turbo as it's only done 8k and it gets blown out quite regulary.. It's in for it's first service on Friday, so I assume it will be scanned as a matter of course?
  22. On a blast yesterday up some hills around the Peak district the car went into limp mode (very slow to rev, and unable to go above 4.5k), but there was nothing indicated on the instruments? Is this normal?? Oil temp was up at 104. Parked for an hour everything was normal on driving back.
