I've bought and sold many cars on ebay and apart from a complete lemon, which was partly my fault as I didn't ask the right questions have been very pleased with them all. It's like buying a car from anywhere really, go into the deal with your eyes open, ask the right questions, always take the car for a test drive and give it a good look over before parting with any cash.

After weeks of rough starts and culminating in total failure of my starter motor on Friday (AA had to give me a tow start) I finally plucked up the courage and replaced my starter motor today. If anyone is considering it, it's actually quite a simple job that took me two hours from start to finish. I'm sure if I was a more proficient mechanic it would have taken a lot less time but I was very careful and didn't rush it. The car starts fine now on the first turn of the key and I suspect that the motor had always been weak as it would often take a few seconds to get going. Anyway if anybody's considering changing a starter motor my advice is to go for it. There’s plenty of advice on here and if you get stuck you can always pm me for advice. BTW recon starter motor was £86 and labour £0.

Does anybody know the pt no for a rear wash / wipe motor for my 99 plate Octavia estate? Have taken my old one out and the pt no has worn away.

Got the battery on and she fired up straight away. The replacement battery is considerably larger than the old 'dud' battery so I'm thinking the old battery might not have been the correct one?? Anyway, all seems OK at present...phew.

I purchased a new heavy duty battery yesterday and intend to fit it this morning. I'll report back one fitted. BTW I phoned around several 'large' motor factord for the battery and was quoted between £99 - £65 for the same battery. Went to my local car shop and got it for £52.85, it pays to phone around..!

Have had a couple of rough starts over the pst couple of mornings. Now when I turn the ignition nothing happens for a couple of seconds then the engine turns over slowly and then springs into life. Is it just the battery needing a good charge??

Yep I agree with KenOneill thay are from a Fabia. Anyway thay still look a lot better than the horrible steel wheels that I've got at the momment. But are they safe to fit, has anybody put Fabia wheels on an Octavia before?

I've got the correct alloy wheel bolts it's just the actual fitment I'm concerned about. When you put the wheel on there is a centre disc which the wheel fits over and it seems to be recessed on the alloys wheras it's flush on the steel wheels.

Just purchased these from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN:IT&ih=027 for £25!!! Will they fit a 99 TDI estate? I've tried one and all the wheel bolt holes line up but the centre disc is recessed whereas it's flush on the normal steel wheels? Any ideas???

So much for all the theories on why the cabin heaters don't work / pack up. Removed mine today to investigate and what did I find...the brushes to the motor had worn out. A quick look on ebay and found a new set for £15, nice. Don't believe all the hype on here about control flaps, check the simple things first and work back:rofl:

You need to run vagcom and see what error code you get.

Any body able to help me with this? I can't be the only person to have this problem?????

The rev counter needle in my 99 Octavia TDI keeps flashing on and off. Is this just the buld or is there an other issue going on here? If it's the bulb how do I replace??

The pointer on my rev counter keeps blinking as if a bulb has gone in it. Anybody know how to replace it?
