  1. A silver 03 plate one of the first, had it for 3 and a half years which is a long time for me, was a really nice car, and yes wish I had never sold her. Had the mk2 vrs which was never as good as the mk1 and only had it for 9 months.
  2. My Monte did this and had Dunlops, got the same old 17 inch wheels and low profile tyres story from the dealership. Then my vRS did this as well. Dealer was very poor and together with some other small problems with the car that they failed to resolve I decided to jump ship. Personally I think the overall dealer experience has dropped over the years, when I had my Vrs mk1 which had a few problems but all were fixed swifty. But yes your car should not do this, get it back!
  3. Got a Fiesta Zetec S, admittedly not an ST (could not afford one), but the handling ride and steering are top notch. Leaves me with a smile on my face Tony
  4. I don't think the dsg box in the fabis Vrs does not need servicing. The "wet box" in the earlier Octavias do, perhaps thats what Awesome mean? Tony
  5. I found the ride harsh, but I'm getting old and I now prefer a more comfort oriented ride. However previously owned the Monte 1.2 tsi and this was very good- engine is superb as well. Fabia will be soon replaced with a newer version, so if you do go for the Monte make sure you get a sizeable discount.
  6. You will be informed by the maxidot display when you need to take your Skoda for a service. There is a menu you can call upon where it tells you how many days/mileage that this will occur. Some people prefer to get their cars serviced annually rather than be on variable but that's a topic for another day. What mileage do you do, and the type of driving etc will impact on when a service is needed on your vehicle.
  7. it is on variable servicing. When I had my Fabia this was the case as well, however, as I had 3 years free servicing they performed a service ( its an oil change) and reset the service interval to fixed. I think the code in the service book is Q16 or something along those lines.
  8. Well after 9 months ownership I decided to part company with the Fabia. I would have loved to report that the 9 months was without incident but I think I have made the right decision. It was starting to use oil the steering was pulling to the left, it was knocking from the rear door (loose door catch but Skoda said it was fine!) and the ride around town was poor and the handling was just ok. I could of have obviously got the faults rectified but I think that once you have decided you want a change there is no going back. I still think the Fabia Vrs is a great car but could of been so much better if Skoda had sorted the ride and handling out, just my view though. In the Fabia's defence it was bargain to run and the performance and DSG box were awesome and in metallic blue it looked lovely. i have gone back to a Ford Fiesta Zetec S 125bhp 1 litre engine. Performance wise it's obviously a lot slower and real world economy may be only marginally better (never believe those manufacturer figures), but i love the styling, the ride and handling are top notch and the quality of the interior with the blue dials are a step up in my opinion. Factory order with climate, keyless ignition with power start, DAB radio and folding mirrors. Would of liked the ST but in the real world I never used all the performance of the Fabia and I think the 125 bhp is a good compromise. Will still hang around here, because this is one of the best forums out there, hope I am still welcome! Tony
  9. I am loving the BMW. Funny my friend has just got a new M135i and i was fortunate to be let loose on it. All I can say was I was completely blown away by it. I have never driven such a lovely car. The soundtrack was awesome and the performance was off the scale. Build quality, comfort and handling were top notch. He wisely choose some great options the best one being the adaptive suspension which was great. It would be extremely unfair and unjust to compare the Fabia Vrs as the BMW simply is leagues better in every aspect and so it should be with a price tag of £30k.
  10. I have some music on my phone that i wanted to play, so I plugged the lead in the auz socket adjacent to the auto box. This did not show up on the stereo. But when I unplugged the MDI connector it did play. So the question is can't you have the MDI and Aux lead connected at the same time? Not a huge problem, but thought I would ask? Thanks
  11. Excellent summary of the DSG box. After 7 months in mine I have quietly come to appreciate the marvels of the technology. Sometimes you have to take Honest John, What Car and other reviews with a pinch of salt and go and try for yourself, just to see what you are missing!
  12. QI2 according to service interval booklet page 6 states, As per service interval display, or 7500km, or 1 year, so fixed. My preference is to get the vehicle serviced annually as I only do a small mileage.
