In Ireland, we have this thing called the PIAB... the "Personal Injury Assessment Board". It's possibly one of the best organisations that has been set up in recent years for this very reason. the result is that insurance claims have gone down... hence my insurance came down by 180 last year alone. You don't have Jonny the ****** claiming €25000 for a broken finger from giving someone a box in a pub, and you don't have the same Jonny claiming for 8 months sick leave from whiplash from an accident like the one you were involved in. It has put a complete stop to it, much to the dissappointment of a few barrister friends of mine. More importantly, they absolutely BONE (no innuendo intended) people like your new lady friend as they treat it as insurance fraud. So check out if you have such a service there... Good luck! Hi people, hopefully I can sort this one out! My car: 2001 Octavia Estate 1.9Td (90bhp) The (old) radio: Skoda Symphony ?? with the 6 CD changer I bought one of these last week: Bluetooth Car CD/MP3 Radio (2413) It is the one that is available in Aldi for a dirt cheap price. The sound quality and funcionality is excellent considering how cheap it is. Bluetooth and everything else works fine. Only one problem: when I turn the engine off, I lose my presets. I called their tech support and they tell me that I need to disconnct two wires from their Harness cable. They supply the cable with the harness plug to slot into the back of the radio. The harness plugs at the other end (i.e. brown and black one) fit into the cabling in the car where the old Symphony radio ones were - there is nothing wierd looking about them - they all seem normal. There is one space left empty as this was for the CD changer. Their tech support staff tell me to connect their Yellow Wire in the harness lead to a Live Seed (i.e. the Battery), and their Red wire to the ignition. On their harness cable, both of these have glass fuses (protected by little plastic jackets that can be unclipped and opened). They said this means cutting the wires and connecting them directly to the live seed and ingnition wiring separately... :eek: Now I am no electrician... so if this gets too hard I'll probably have to pay someone to do it. But if you guys say it's doable, could you point me in the right direction? If you could tell me 1) where can I find the live seed and ignition wire? / how do I know which one it is? 2) do I need to buy any gadgets to connect the yellow and red wiring?? 3) is there a good chance I'll wreck my currently perfect wiring by trying this alone? I wouldn't say I'm completely useless at electrics around the house, but I am not so familiar with the inner electrics of a car... I can try to take a picture or two of the back of the radio and post them if that helps anyone. They are actually available from that link I posted above... And finally, I presume this sort of cabling would be standard?? If it ain't I'll probably take it back... I don't fancy screwing around with wiring that works if it can be avoided.
