  1. Thanks for this, @nta16 - very helpful. Unfortunately, I don't have a complete record available for this car. No paperwork for service history was passed to me (beyond the internal invoice for the cam belt job) with the car. I deliberately had the car serviced at a local Skoda main dealer after a year so I could ask them for a print out of all servicing history they have on record. The records Skoda have on their central database has a big gap for this car, between a standard service in Jan 2018 (at 17k miles) and the service I arranged for Jan 2023 (at 47k miles), a year after I bought the car. So I suspect the servicing wasn't done at a Skoda main dealer / somewhere with access to the Skoda database. I have receipts of the work done by my local independent mobile mechanic, but of course there's no service logbook with modern vehicles nowadays that a mechanic can stamp with their business info into the history logbook. A bit miffed about that as I handed over a ton of paperwork for everything I'd done with my old Fabia when I traded it in (and I take some pride in seeing from its online MOT history that it remains on the road 4 years later) I had the air con re-gassed in June 2024. It was still working at that point, but performance had declined. I'm not aware of any recalls affecting my car.
  2. Yes, I would have expected it to be an authentic VAG cam belt. I managed to get the dealer to give me the internal invoice they issued for the maintenance the car had at that point, and that includes the part number: 04E 109 119 F which indicates it was made by Continental, a brand I'm sure VAG would be likely to use. Pulley(s) and tensioner(s) also listed on the same invoice, so looks like they used a cam belt kit, as one would expect. Water pump: Yes, on my previous 2007-57 1.9 TDI Mk2 Fabia, I had the cam belt replaced twice over the 12 years I had it, and the water pump at the same time (plus alternator belt). However, I'm not sure if the water pump is driven by the cam belt on the EA211 engine.
  3. Ah, that's interesting, on both your points! I was aware that the cam belts were expected to last that long on the newer 1.0 TSI engines, but hadn't heard this now also applied to the 1.2 units. Looks like I might need to see if there's any kind of consensus on here about that one. Ah, so does the filter last for the lifetime of the pump? In other words, only replace if the pump fails?
  4. I have a 2016 65-plate 1.2 TSI SEL hatchback, purchased, Skoda approved used, in February 2022 at 40,000 miles, which is due a service and MOT come January 24th. A couple of questions: How soon for the next major service? (I'm thinking this time next year) How long until I replace the cam belt? (Also thinking this time next year as it will have done 5 years and probably the best part of 40,000 miles by then) Mileage is now 64,000 and it averages 5-7k a year. Cam belt was replaced by Skoda main dealer from whom I bought the car, just before I bought it, so it's now done 4 years and 24,000 miles. I always service my cars annually, but I thought I should see what your thoughts were on the frequency of a major service. This Fabia last had a major service January 2024, at 53,000 miles, . Major service replaced all the filters (oil, air and cabin pollen), plus oil change and new spark plugs although I can't find a record of a fuel filter replacement since I bought the car. I therefore specified just standard service last January, at 59275 (Oil, air filter and oil filter only) I'm thinking another major service this soon would be unnecessary given the mileage. Not sure how old the fuel filter is though. Can't find a record of replacement while I've had it - surprised it wasn't done at the last major service.
  5. First post on here for a few years. I've since bought my second Fabia. 2016 65-plate, pre-FL hatch, SE L trim, 1.2 TSI 110PS, 6-speed manual. This has been trouble-free until last December when the driver's door window regulator failed, and was replaced. The problems now: Water leaks under the driver's door when it rains, and pools in the ridge of the seal on the sill. I think this happened once or twice previously but seems to have got worse since the window regulator replacement Seal looks in good condition all round Off-street parking space outside my front door is on a slight gradient; driver's door facing uphill if parked with boot facing front door If I park the other way round, I don't get water leaking (driver's door facing downhill) But that's impractical - reversing onto the street is trickier; the boot isn't facing the front door which is less than ideal when loading / unloading Most (but not all) of the water pools on the rubber footwell mat, but I keep having to remove the original mat from underneath to let that dry out (luckily this happens easily if left in the house to air overnight) Wondering what adjustments can be made to door; puzzled about where the water is getting in. Could be handy to pass back to mechanic I've noticed a bit of the black glossy trim over the B pillar on the driver's door has slipped down slightly - possible reason? Door card rattles, especially with bass from the speaker, but with motion from car too; clearly not quite reinstalled correctly after regulator replacement Can feel a gap between the card and the door skin around the bottom as well Just in case rattles persist, was thinking a layer of insulating foam inside the door card cavity Road noise is an irritation after re-fit with this car, but can't work out where it's coming from the most Would appreciate recommendations for sound insulation, and particular products / suppliers Was thinking insulation in door cards could go in if the driver's one needs to come back off anyway Hoping this might improve performance of stereo system a little bit (factory-fit Amundsen) There are strips of what looks like deadening material against the bodywork in and around the spare wheel well in the boot; clearly factory fitted as these are sprayed in the body colour. Would covering this whole area in Dynamat, for example, be worth doing? Anyone used kits like this? https://www.noisekillers.co.uk/products/skoda
  6. Thanks for your reply! (and for your private message) Just realised I never posted the link to the video I was referring to (fast forward to 13:20): OK, so regarding: 1: It's safe to remove the contents of the SD card? Don't want to find that I've stopped it working irreperably, but at the same time I understand that as the card is almost full, space will have to be freed up to fit newer maps on there. Picture of the card itself attached. 2. Understood - so I take that to mean I would need to use dedicated cards each for media and maps. That would be my preference if given the choice anyway. 3. I've Googled "SD card extender" and have found options such as this - I take it that's what you meant?. It's interesting a canbus configuration change would be required, even though the unit offers "SD2" as a source!
  7. I purchased a 2016-plate Fabia SEL last Friday, and this was fitted with an Amundsen. System information is attached. The SD card supplied with the unit is 16GB. The maps appear to be from 2015. I have a few questions: 1. To update my maps, do I delete the existing contents of the SD card? I've found the update portal on the Skoda website. 2. Is it possible to put media on the maps SD card as well (assuming card were large enough to fit both) 3. It looks as though the Amundsen in the Fabia has two SD cards. Two slots are referenced in the menu, but only one is accessible in the glove compartment, but this video shows the dash of another Fabia with an Amundsen system, with the unit haing two SD slots, which leads me to suspect the second slot is concealed. Has anyone else managed to pull apart their glove compartment to access this other slot, and did it work? Is there any value in any firmware updates that might be available for this unit, or is it not worth it?
  8. As some of you may recall, I have been the proud owner of a 57-reg Fabia since Nov / Dec 2009. About 6 months after that, I acquired an RNS510 from eBay, and fitted that myself. My car is a level 3 spec model, so has MaxiDOT rather than the standard LCD in the dash. The factory-fitted Dance head-unit repeated some info onto the MaxiDOT, and I'd like to reinstate this plus the navigation features onto the display too. I have heard conflicting accounts as to whether this can be done, whether the pre-FL Fabia has a suitable CAN-bus (?) and how much adjustment is necessary, whether adapters are required, etc. This video appears to demonstrate that what I want to do can be done: The car, although a continental left-hand drive version, appears otherwise identical in specification to mine, with the MaxiDOT display and the climatronic stuff. It's only about 6-12 months newer than mine, so still very much a pre-FL example. I don't get anything on the MaxiDOT at all at the moment. The other problem is that the Columbus unit turns itself off after about 30-40 minutes' use; presumably this is because it things the ignition is off and it's trying to save the battery? I would very much appreciate any pointers as to where I should go from here.
