  1. Hi, No door seal leaks spotted on ours - but we were getting a bit (read quite a bit) of condensation inside the car. We now just get the dehumidifier packets (the ones with the plastic back and "paper" front - seems to help anyway! Also as the car is demisting (using the heater) opening the windows a crack to vent the (moist) air may help a bit. HTH
  2. Hi there, We have an '02 elegance estate (the one with the 2L petrol motor). So far, it's just spent it's life on a little island with a 35mph max speed limit and it's going to end up being used in the mainland (UK). At present, it's completely standard. The ASR is only used in the wet as it doesn't appear to work properly in the dry(!) and it burns a bit of oil - especially in the cold (but not so that it's visible in the exhaust). SWMBOs driving could best be described as "spirited" (and not too dissimilar to certain taxi drivers I know...) and most of the driving will be on 'A' roads. I guess the first (important) question is what oil consumption is normal for these motors? (Our main dealer suggested there was nothing amiss with ours, but...) Our previous 1.6 cavalier hardly burnt any oil at all so that's my reference point without prior VAG experience! Second question is is it worth bothering with an uprated rear ARB on an otherwise stock car? At present, it does wallow a bit in the corners but I have no real interest in uprating stuff for the sake of it - just basically want to know if there's anything worth doing to the car to ensure that the experience is as pleasant as possible! Any advice is welcome, as the only car I've been remotely involved with tweaking was a mini...
  3. Lol, yeah. Kerridge = sux0r. Had to use it when I worked for a Renault (*spit*) franchise... Was lead to believe that the A/C gas was constantly circulated or is that another urban myth?
  4. Thanks, yeah I was looking at that too. Of course it didn't twig that a Polo could have the same codes as a Fabia... *bangs head*
  5. Car registered in 2002. No idea as to whether the gas has been changed. I'll check with the service agent when I next visit (he has Kerridge, I don't!)
  6. Thanks :-) checked VRStu out before for something else, but didn't think of it for that. Cheers. Yeah I have 2 click unlocking ATM but SWMBO wants 1 click... VRStu's site gives +1 to the soft code for all doors - thanks for the linky *Off topic rant mode* Haynes manual arrived today. Doesn't cover the 16V 2L Fabia. Of course it doesn't state that on the front cover... Dealer said ours was an 8V so I'm kind of confused *Off topic rant mode off*
  7. Thanks all, will check the VMBs when I next go out to the car. A/C didn't seem to do much on the cold setting - not having a thermometer to put against the vents I can't really say for sure whether it's taking it down to 16 degrees C or not. So can the motor flaps be re-set with VAGCOM if that's the problem? (Still waiting for Ross-Tech to validate my e-mail addy for support). As an aside, under the convenience unit I have the code 00258. From reading all the gen on here (information overload!), if I re-code it to 00259 I'll get one click unlocking? Thanks again :-)
  8. We have a 2002 (registered date) 2l Fabia (Elegance) Estate. When plugging in VAGCOM (genuine cable, USB version) and test, I get K1 ok, K2 ok but no CAN. Is this normal for this age car please? The auto scan picked up the following faults... *----- Address 08: Auto HVAC Labels: 6Q0-820-045.lbl Part No: 6Y0 820 045 Component: Klimaanlage X0770 3 Faults Found: 00818 - Sensor for Evaporator Outlet Temperature (G263) 30-00 - Open or Short to Plus 01271 - Positioning Motor for Temperature Flap (V68) 30-10 - Open or Short to Plus - Intermittent 01271 - Positioning Motor for Temperature Flap (V68) 28-10 - Short to Plus - Intermittent *---- I take it this means the AC won't work properly (if at all)? Mods, if this is in the wrong place, please would you mind moving it? I was unsure whether it should be here or in the general diagnostic area...
  9. Any thoughts on the satin black grill on an 02 metallic blue/silver fabia? Has black no. plates (perfectly legal here ) so I was thinking it would go? MP, looking good there!
  10. Ok, rather tame, but the best feeling so far was getting into our Skud and driving home after buying it. Second to that was the test drive - pure luxury compared to our old 1.6 cavalier...
  11. Again, thanks for the advice. No option but to remove the battery cover on our skud. To avoid accidental contact with the bulbs I used some disposable gloves - gives your hands a minuscule(!) amount of protection but more importantly means you don't drop the bulb whilst trying to get it in the hole the right way round!
  12. Yeppers, engines shut down and APU used when on the apron. At least they are here. Ragging an engine from cold is not a good idea. Given that the most wear on an engine tends to happen before it's warmed up anyway (look up differential expansion:) ), hammering it before it's warm is asking for trouble. Also, mate with a disco reckons that you should still allow a turbo'd car to idle before shut off (yeah I know disco's are agricultural) - it's better safe than sorry IMO. A well looked after engine may even outlast the bodyshell...
  13. Meh, personal preference again. Just think that "angel eyes" look nasty. Far too many people fit them to cars they don't suit IMO. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I've seen a car they do look good on...!
  14. Andy, it'll look good when you're done with it! (Heck it's already looking better than before :p ) Subtle and (slightly) understated is the way forwards IMO!
  15. Yeah, keep the smooth look. Don't airbrush a badge - will look cack if even slightly off (also too subjective when deciding what looks "right"). And please put the original lights back...
