  1. when we got the heater element out it was actually scary - the element had burnt out and scortched the underside of the seat upholstory. wouldnt like to have been sitting on it at the time !!! for now have swapped the element over from the passenger side. now I am toastie warm !!! very rarely carry a passenger and seats are cloth so not that cold
  2. does this happen on both your cars ? just curious as the petrol one has heated washer jets (i know as i paid extra for them). although in this cold weather teh fluid freezes before it gets to the nozzles. I think you are better buying concentrate (its a lot cheaper - why pay for water !) and then mixing it pretty strong so its helps prevent the fluid freezing
  3. correct !! 10 points ! took the seats out and swapped them round to prove the car wiring was not at fault - faulty seat was still faulty when connected to other side. Then did some continuity testing on the seat and foudn the base heater on the driver's side to be faulty !!! will get a price for a new heater pad.
  4. where can i get a wiring diagram for a mark 1 superb. need ot do some fault finding and woudl be easier if i had diagram to reference. thanks
  5. its not so much the bad experience. we made a decision to move up to an MPV so we can carry the grandparents around as well as the kids.
  6. saying goodbye to the superb2 section as sold my car. It went last week to a fellow briskodian (BurialConstant) who now has the claim to fame of having x2 mk2 superbs. he tells me he is converted to petrol after only one week of driving the 1.8Tsi DSg !!! I am not going from the forum totally as I am driving a mk1 superb at the moment - its a stop gap filler until we decide which car to order next year (people carrier / MPV type )thingy thanks for all the help, advice, banter and arguments (derv vs petrol !!) over the past 12 months !! jonathan
  7. planning to get my multimeter on the job this weekend. will unplug heated seat connector from seat base and check power is coming through. will then test continuity of seat element. shoudl be process of elimination I hope. then may swap passenger side element if it is the problem been too busy this week cleaning plenum chamber drain holes and sorting pollen filter housing seal out !!!
  8. any ideas - heated seat on drivers seat not working. fuse OK and all other 3 heated seats work. checked connector under seat is OK. as far as i can see in the fuse box one fuse does all the 4 heated seats. any ideas where to look next ? very annoying as passenger has a toastie bum and I dont !!!
  9. ONE DOWN, several million to go !!! i reckon the new breed of 1.4 turbo petrol engines that are starting to emerge will convert many back to petrol - they are clean, economical, power in the right place (low down the rev range) and importantly they are quiet !! i never understand why people by small cars that are derv and then pootle around town and do 8k miles a year !!!
  10. 1.8 not expensive to own. just expensive to sell !!! (deprectiation !!) LOL economy is good. average 35 with a mix of driving, can get 40 on a run without trying.
  11. have you seen my neighbours !!!! not likely !
  12. well its gone....sold....and to a fellow briskodian !!! BurialConstant is now the proud owner of my 1.8TSi DSG. I got a fair price and more that i would have got trade in. I am now the owner of a mark1 superb which i will drive around in until next year as we havnt decided what to go for next !!
  13. except diesel is, in the words of a curly haired motoring presenter, "the fuel of the devil" i woudl have to be backed into a seriously large and scary corner to buy a diesel and a diesel auto really does not "float my boat". !!! no offence the price guides vary a huge amount. parkers says i have overpaid but other say I have underpaid !!!
  14. the comfort was on standard 16". cant remember what the classic was - think it was 16". i will check it out when i get the car on friday as i bought it ! will run the codes though the VAG code checker website thingy i didnt explaine very well - i prefer the softer ride so no lowering for me !
  15. interesting views - thanks I bought it yesterday for £3500 !!! collect it on friday. he has all receipts for cambelt, waterpump, service - all done a few weeks ago with parts from GSF and his local garage. taxed it a week ago. checked it out on HPI today and all fine. all i have to do is put 4 tyres on it which will not cost me anything as i have some 16" contis available with more than 50% of their life left. he had it up at 3600 but woudl not budge less than 3500. he said he had other people intersted - i know you would say that but he basically said "3500 is the price if you want it - if not then no problem". and he does need to sell it. i think i got a fair price. will be able to tell more after i have owned it for a while !!
  16. comfort trim - i did state this in my original posting but you must have missed it "2003 53 1.8T manual comfort with heated seats front and rear" private sale i know what it "books" at but that is largely irrelevant as "market forces" and "what else is out there" always come into play. just wonder what you thought thats all ! cheers
  17. is the suspension (ie spring rates & shock absorber ratings) be the same on a classic and a comfort model. I test drove both and they felt differnt but the tyres on the comfort where shot and the wrong ratings so that woudl have affected things. was there an option to spec sports suspension ? if so woudl the car be lowered as well ? I know i can check using the build codes on the boot sticker but thats not practical at the moment as car a long way away. thanks
  18. i have found a car i want to buy and just wondered what you thought. 2003 53 1.8T manual comfort with heated seats front and rear. Anthracite grey. mint condition in and out except for one kerbed alloy (light scuffs). Full service history from new with fully stamped book. new timing belt, water pump and full service last month. 73k mile. needs 4 new tryres but i have some available. not a mark on it inside and out. 5.5 months tax. test till june. HPi clear.
  19. nope. but we could do with 5 seats and not 4.5 !!! try sitting in the middle of two kiddies seats in the back of a superb for more than 10 mins !!the superb is actually not that wide in the back - certainly narrower than our old shape A6.the thing is if i wait longer to make the depreciation "feel" less in real terms we will simply loose more money as its value is only going to go down. agreed it will be at a lesser rate over time but that doesnt make much difference really !
  20. its worse than that. it depends if you base the calculations on list price or the price that i paid. if you go for what i paid then the drop to what the local skoda dealer offered me was 40%. makes the trade in offer VW gave last week look really good at only 34% drop. (£1500 more in real terms). problem with that is that we are likely to be getting a ford smax and i just laughed at the dealer when they gave me their trade in price !!I think I am going to be blighted by these issues as we live in a silly time where derv rules. never understood why low mileage users simpy jump on the bandwagon and buy diesel. I suppose they might LIKE them but can never understand why anyone would turn down a 1.8TSi as its a cracking engine !!!back to the drawing board perhaps, or maybe take a deep breath and accept the drop.
  21. but a superb elegance 1.8T DSG is hardly obscure !!! if parkers list it then where do they get there trade in data from ? went to my local skoda dealer today and they are looking into giving me a price to buy it. hopefully will come back tomorrow with an offer.
  22. ok - we are trying to trade the superb in (sorry !) as we need a larger (more seats) vehicle. I am getting varying offers from the disappointing to the down right ridiculous. interstingly i found out that one of the issues is the car does not appear in glass' guide ??? I checked online and sure enough glass do not list the car. as this is the bible many traders use then they are struggling to value it. they are simply phoning their auction guy and getting a stupidly low bidwhy is it not listed - its been out for 12 months + now. ?it does list on parkers car guide but this is not really used by the trade Also had an interesting bid from BCA (british car auctions). I thought they would recommend a very low reserve but is was £500 more than VW offered as a trade in and to be fair to VW they did offer a sensible price.
