  1. not much really goes wrong with them. mine has 204k on the clock and still goes like stink! if its a diesel make sure its had the injector recall work done and find out if its done much motorway work or all round town. DPF can cause issues, but just get that ripped out and remapped Lee
  2. i don't have clip or video at the moment but can try do one tomorrow. its subtle as its a standard system jsut dpf hollowed. because of this, its not "boy racer" just has a different sound. will try post something up tomorrow. yes i have a TDI estate
  3. 100% DPF removal (or strip out and put back so its MOT legal) will definitely change the sound. this will come hand in hand with a remap and push you over the 200bhp mark easy (i suffer wheelspin in 3rd!) i have a standard system with the DPF stripped and have a nice echoey (if thats how its spelt) sound and wishy turbo on a standard system. a stainless system would sound awesome!
  4. thanks will do. im in Basingstoke Hants... yeah your right i don't want to spend too much just in case she goes pop, but i got her a few k under the going rate, so have some tinkering room... thats why i want to do the LH / CH mod etc as a quick cheap option found a post for auto licht mod, but need rain sensors for that, and thats a whole can of worms me thinks! im not one for going silly with mods. being an estate i like the remap as a wolf in sheeps clothing kinda thing, so i won't be looking at 20" wheels and lowering it to the floor! just some nice "grown up" tweaks so i stand out from the crowd.... (my superb i used as a taxi. i had the reverse camera mod and added Play station etc used to get some nice tips )
  5. thanks for the reply... is the auto light option retrofit-able.? anyone tried.? cheers
  6. hi all, after best aprt of 2 years since selling my Superb elegance (for a pickup needed for work!) i am back with an Octy VRS II estate (for the mutts) been spending the last week scanning through the posts to see if there are any easy tweaks / good ideas etc that i can get done sooner rather than later the car is "bedded in" with 204,000 on the clock, but ive know the last 2 owners so i know she has had an easy life with no expense spared... had the injector recall done at 174k she still pulls like a train, helped with a remap and DPF delete (bored out rather than straight pipe replacement for the MOT) i did start to write an essay about what standard spec the VRS II (pre FL) as i couldn't beleve it didn't have heated mirrors!! had to delete when a colleague pointed out where they were!! (previous 2 cars had auto heated when you had the windscreen demist on!) so instead i am going to write to ask (as its a bit contradicting in the posts i have read) whether CH / LH lights work on a pre fl, drl activation cornering lights etc. and if there is anyone in the Basingstoke area with the means to activate i have maxidot, but not auto lights / wipers and she is 2007 57 looking forward to hearing from people who have successfully activated the mods.. cheers
  7. the engine has done about 90k further update however... it did fire for about 5 mins.. at times seemed to "hunt" on tickover, however when i revved it to about 1200rpm it was steady. until it then cut out after about 5 mins.. and it wouldn't start again. could be 2 things that i am thinking now.. 1 (which i haven't checked.) a fueling issue.... or something to do with the temperature in some way. as the needle started to move just before it cut out..
  8. i fear this is the end to my reliable (rarely heard i know) 2.0tdi 140bhp Elegance.... i had done a 200mile round trip, sweet as a nut, then when i popped out to the shop, i got half a mile down the road then suddenly the car juddered like it was in too high a gear for the speed. i dipped the clutch and revved it ok, then 10 seconds later it just cut out.. no warning lights or anything. the car cranked ok, just wouldn't fire. called the AA, who had a quick look, cranked the arse out of it until the red oil warning light came on!!!! plugged his computer in and saw no errors before towing me home.. did some googling and several posts said this sounds like a worn cam issue. got my neighbour, who is a mechanic to have a look, who aslo said sounds like cam before i had said what i had found. whipped the top off, and could see wear on the exhaust lobes and the tappets were worn so he went ahead and replaced the lot... the car still wont fire... it turns but wont fire.... the other thing i noticed that the oil level on the dip stick was really high.. it never burns oil so there has been no need for me to top it up.. has anyone else had similar issues and can someone shed any light on what could be wrong... be sad to see her go, but if i cant get her fixed at a reasonable price i will have to scrap her..... thanks in advance guys and gals.
  9. probably a bit late now... but the 2 black nozzels are for the same tank. one acts as a breather as you fill the other with the additive. my origional post isn't entirely foolproof though. i still get the regen regularly, and a month ago, i got the DPF blocked again. however this could be due to a split turbo pipe and short journeys.... this time, was a case of drop the DPF out, blast it out with an air compressor (hessian sacking around either end to catch the soot!!) then a couple of kettles full of hot water then the hose pipe to flush, back on the car and run it for half hour to dry it all out.! shame my camshaft can't be sorted so easily and cheaply....
  10. Hi All, thought i woud share with you my experience with a recent DPF issue, and to set your mind at ease. its not as bad as garages like you to think.. i have a 2006 Superb Elegance 2.0 (yes the one with the Hooky BSS engine!) whuch has covered 168,000 miles now with very little trouble. i had a warning light (Emissions check) come up, but being skint and the light being intermittent, i largely ignored it for a month or 2.... i then began to get "engine workshop" light coming on occasionally too. the car had to go in for a service anyway, so i got them to check fault codes at the same time. turns out the DPF fluid tank was empty, and the DPF sensor was faulty (G450 error code) to top up fluid and replace sensor would set me back approx £500. however as skint, thought would try to dig about muself. first task was to get the tank refilled (for those who don't know, the mk1's have a tank in the boot which adds a n additive to the fuel to aid heating up the exhaust to burn off the soot, as the DPF is too far away from the turbo to get the head by just burning additional fuel as on newer models). the garage were quoting £45 per litre, tank takes 4 litres... this is the going rate... with the help from some helpful lads at TPS, we worked out that the stuff is no different to Add Blue, the additive used in trucks and busses. this came out at about £15 for 10 litres!! so armed with a squeezy bottle, flexi tube and some latex gloves (the fluid is very nasty stuff) i set about refilling the tank.! job done! this cleared the fault light (with the help of a generic fault code reader) all was good for a week or 2, then the "Engine check" light came on a few times, then for the first time the "DPF" light came on the dash, which indicated the filter was blocked. before i knew it, car went into limp mode and i struggled to get it home. did some googling, and read that this could be due to the filter being blocked, and read all these horror stories about garages charging over a grand to replace, then all these places doing bypases and remaps for 4-500 etc etc. as this was out of the question, i set about thinking about it logically.. there was not fluid in the tank, but if the sensor was faulty, this would stop regeneration... so decided to hunt down the sensor... this is approx £50 from the dealer (i managed to get one off eBay for £20!) the part number required is: 076 906 051 A i then set about looking for how to clean the filter. again, googling i found places that will clean the filter, do a furced regeneration etc, so thought surely i can do this myself... i removed the DPF, and could see this was totally blocked up to the point the pressure had blown off one of the pipes to the sensor, which i think is what caused it to go to limp mode suddenly. i read that a hot pressure wash can be used, and watched a couple of videos on youtube. as i didn't have a hot pressure washer, i poured a couple of kettle fulls of boiling water into the filter, which got totally absorbed (which worried me a little!) then i poured some brake / clutch cleaner into it **WARNING*** this gives off some nasty fumes which will make you dizzy and give you a thumping headache even though outside in well ventilated area! this began to fizz like a mento in a bottle of coke! and after leaving this to soak for half hour, i poured a couple more kettles full of boiling water into the filter, and water began to run through. i helped this along by using a normal cold water pressure washer and was amazed at the rubbish that came out! when the water was running fairly freely i left this to drain over a couple of days.. i then re attached to the car, fitted the new sensor and cleared down the codes and started the car... yes there was lots of steam for about an hour! where the filter was drying, but after this, i took it on a 30 min drive up and down the motorway to get the car to do a regen, and touch wood, after 500 miles, no more error light, no more limp mode, and the car is doing its regens as it should. this cost me a total of £80, including chucking a mate some money for removing and re fitting the exhaust as i didn't have the time sorry for the mahoosive post, but thought would take the time to give a guide to self fixing as well as letting people know these cars are not all bad, and not all will cost the earth to keep on the road....
  11. i had the same problem. turned out the flexi hose between the Turbo and the Cat was shot.. watch out though as the flex / Cat are one peice, and no one seems to make a (decent) replica to the Skoda origional, which is about £750 :'( however, find yourself an exhaust fabricator and get them to cut out the old flex and put a new one in... jobs a goodun.!
  12. i have had the same for a Puddle light for my superb... to the point I had to navigate through their system for them to find the exploded view of the required part (blind leading the blind!!) stupidly put the car in for a major service, asked for the car to be ready for lunch time (being a taxi driver, time is money etc) went back at lunch time and the car hadn't moved....!!! eventually got the car back hour and half later... got home, and checked the work (always do after catching different dealer out in past only to find the oil was dirty (no engine flush) and the SAME air filter..!!!! to top it off, they sheared a bolt off the engine cover, and the car was covered in white stuff... to which both were denied by the dealer..! next day back down there, hour of my life wasted (more money lost) to get my new air filter i had paid for...... complaints to dealer AND Skoda got me no response.... ggrrr!!
  13. thanks for your replies. there is no smoke that i can see... i will have a look at the pipe over the weekend.. unfortunately with 136k on the car, the warranty is long gone... :( hopefully this is somehting i can bodge.!
  14. hahah i also bidded on these.!! i couldn't really make out he shape of the actual sensor. i think the part number quoted is for the whole kit, rather than the individual sensors.. i have however won a bid on some porsche sensors.. which apparently are the same, and are only £30 as opposed to £85 from the stealer... will let you know if they fit...
  15. Personally i wouldn't touch the Conti's EVER again i used to have a Mondeo ST TDCI and they were the worst tyres i EVER had..! i am a cabby, and now i use budgets.. (am more into tyre life than corner-a-bility) however Mitchelins are a personal favourite on the Skoda (when trade was better!)
  16. Hi All. wonder if anyone has experinced this problem. noticed over last couple of weeks that when am statioary, with engine ticking over, i get fumes come in the car.. first thought it was the wind direction etc, however its too much of a co oncidence. also when open the window the smell goes. so guessing its coming in through the vents... has anyone had this issu and had it fixed..?? before i put it into the stealers.... the exhaust hasn't blown. that is obvious anyhow. first thing i checked... cheers
  17. if your still looking.. SJB Autotech Basingstoke are independant VAG agent.... Very competitive
  18. all, i am running an 06 Superb Elegance, as a Taxi..... its done 129k and rouch wood, all is good with no major hassles... my punters love the car, as its in Black and looks like a mirror (bit of a cleaning freak!) ALWAYS get positive comments.. got the windows tinted, and looks the mutts.. however, am loving the DRL's on the new Octy VRS and Audi's... now have been looking for ages, and think the S6 ones in the bumper grilles would look the best on the superb.... has anyone fitted these..?? genuine or otherwise.... i don't want to buy 19.99 ones from fleabay... and the halfrauds ones wouldn't light up a matchbox......!!!! before i splash out around £200 for genuine ones... just wnated to know if anyone has done it........ if so, how easy was it, much butchering required and any cheaper non genuine ones that look as good..?? thanks Lee
