I was the first to report it. See: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/150025-negative-g/?hl=+negative +'g' The car is still doing it.

I spun my FWD car unexpectedly going round a (damp) roundabout at what I consider was not an excessive speed. The car was a Honda Accord Type S, and had tyres with loads of tread front and rear. The problem I deduced was that the Yokohamas on the rear were a lot less grippy than the Bridgestones on the front. I swapped the Yokos onto the front and suffered more understeer, until I got them replaced. Certainly, when I had the same tyres back and front there was no problem at all.

Long term comparison from filling up shows Maxidot indicating about 5% over. On my PD vRS is was virtually bob on. Most back to back runs tend to show comparable economy, but every now and again a run will have a lower mpg. The biggest factor seems to be the weather, especially if it is raining (which I put down to the extra drag on the tyres, etc,).

A few questions from a new vRS owner
GriffoVRS replied to hmmmm's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
The DRLs are working correctly. The sidelight bulbs are present but do not 'light' up. It is a legal requirement to have the KPH display, and they have done this to avoid cluttering the speedo. However, I know that you can change the maxidot display to show other things via VCDS by changing the country, but I am not sure if this is true for the standard screen. Lots of people have tried LED bulbs with varying levels of success. Have a search of the forum. -
I had exactly this, with the boot seal full of water (as well as the spare wheel well!). For every hole at the top of the boot seal, I made a corresponding one at the bottom of the seal. Squeezed the residual water out of the seal, got the water out of the spare wheel well, and it has been fine ever since. Only problem is the boot smells musty, as it was a while before I noticed that the spare wheel well was holding water.

Octavia video review from Car and driving

Autocar have just added a Octavia 1.4 SE Hatch to their long term fleet. First report this week. -
Had a test drive Vrs tdi
GriffoVRS replied to Davidsr20's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Pretty much sums up the test drive that I had as well. I used to have a PD vRS, and when I drove the FL CR vRS I knew that that was the car that I really wanted. It seemed to be a significant step forward IMHO. The new car is probably better around, it just didn't wow me. -
enabling cornering fogs on vcds - 2010 VRS
GriffoVRS replied to Matt2134's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
My '59 plate vRS has cornering fogs enabled (no xenons). My choice was to have this just on steering wheel angle, but it also worked with the indicators. -
when does cam belt need doing on a cr vrs?
GriffoVRS replied to mikejay's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Skoda UK state the 4 year limit. Believe that this is different in Europe. -
Michelin are doing their £50 fuel voucher again. This means two PS3s work out at about £200. See the special offer at www.michelin.co.uk

water in the spare wheel well
GriffoVRS replied to sadexpunk's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I also found an inch or so of water in my spare wheel well. There was no trace of washer fluid fluid in the water, so I put it down to a leak somewhere. The boot seal had filled up with water, and when you pressed it, water squirted out of the holes. With a set of cutters I added an extra set of holes in the seal at the bottom (all of the original holes where at the top). This let the water out, and fingers crossed, I haven't had the re-occurence of the water in the spare wheel well. However, my rear washer has just started to play up, and I only get a very limited amount of washer fluid coming out just around the base of the wiper arm, so this needs some investigation as well! -

Windscreen; dozens of tiny pits.
GriffoVRS replied to Kitkit's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
After owning my car for three years from new, I had a new windscreen fitted. I was surprised how much better the new screen was for visibility, especially at night, due to the lack of 'tiny pits'. That was after only three years - it is one of those things that changes progressively over time so you don't really notice it, until you have a step change like a new screen. -
Saw my first one on the road today .................. in silver! All the ones in the dealer I went to were silver as well. Waiting to see one in the flesh in a darker colour.

Tyre Recommendations for 2010 VRS DSG 18"
GriffoVRS replied to TheWood1978's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Note that the curerent Michelin offer ends at the end of April. I will need some tyres in the next couple of months, and was thinking about buying them now and keeping them for a bit before fitting so I can get the voucher. -
The Wheel Specialist do an excellent job. Not cheap, but a full powder coat in a range of colours. I used the Manchester branch, but they have branches in Wales.

Tyre Recommendations for 2010 VRS DSG 18"
GriffoVRS replied to TheWood1978's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Just been quoted £127 for a Michelin PS3 fitted and balanced - 225/40 18. Michelin are currently doing their fuel voucher offer, and if you buy two 18" tyres before the end of April, they will send you a fuel voucher for £50 (see the Michelin UK website). So effectively £102 all in for a Michelin PS3. Result Even if you have bought some tyres in the last month or so (until the end of this month) you should be able to claim (until the end of May, and the applicable dealers). -
Few more pics of an elegance.
GriffoVRS replied to vectra1's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Have only seen the new Octavia in the flesh in silver, and think that the dark colours look much better even if I am not keen on the brown - appears to be the 'in' colour as it is popping up on lots of different makes of car at the moment. -
New tyre fitted by Kwik Fit, is this a good price?

Another possible "water in boot" cause
GriffoVRS replied to ednmra's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I also found an inch or so of water in the spare wheel well (not screenwash). The boot seal was also 'full' of water - water squirted out of the holes in the seal when you pressed it. I added an extra set of holes at the bottom of the seal (just cut the holes with a pair of snips), dried everything out and fingers crossed it hasn't reoccured. -
If you hold down the 'unlock' button on the remote control for long enough this will happen. Could be this happened inadvertently in your pocket.
-
I have also just used the The Wheel Specialist (Manchester branch). Not the cheapest, but really good quality - they take the tyres off, and strip the wheel back before re-painting. Dropped the car in at 8:00 and picked it up at 16:30.

Can you change the sensitivity levels for the Aux input? I am pretty sure that you can do it with the latest audio system, not too sure about the 2008 one. That might be your problem.

After 3 years my seats haven't started squeaking.
