  1. This is a bit late, but i have only just got a 2001 octavia, which had this problem. I always change the air filter when i get a car and this one was dirty, so definitely got changed. Strange thing is, the cold running (or the lack of it!) has improved! I have tried it three different times on cold mornings and it does seem to have improved the sluggish cold running a lot.
  2. Hi, Although old posts of this question do tell where the reversing switch is, i cannot see it for looking!. I have a '2001 octavia petrol 2 ltr estate and the reversing lights are on in drive as well as reverse and also on d2, but not d1?? I am assuming the switch as i cannot think what elase it might be. They do say it is under the battery or air filter and the one i can see there has a two wire connector, but when i remove the connector, the reversing lights still work (wrongly :-) If anyone can pinpoint it or show a clear picture i would be very grateful if someone could help as it's my son's and his MOT is booked in for tomorrow morning! Thanks in advance Paul
  3. Ok, point taken :-) Will take a look Thanks for the info
  4. Hi, Thanks for the replies The fuse box is not the same as the book tells you, so your description could well be more accurate, but surely this would only be if the lights didn't come on? It's nice to know there's no relay, as I had problems with the relays when water got in through the bonnet catch pull a month ago. A bad earth could well be the problem, and i will take a look at that. If not, new switch here i come :-)
  5. Hi, Is there anything else other than the switch on the engine that would cause the reversing lights to stay on? Are they controlled by a relay somewhere? Thanks Paul
  6. just realised, the water was in the passenger back behind the driver. Sorry, misled you a bit there.
  7. I have sealed that area with silicon this morning but i have not checked the grommet near the pollen filter. Thanks for that.
  8. Carpet was wet, back passenger carpet drivers side could have supported goldfish! the water came down the bonnet cable hole and guess what's directly below that? All the important relays. Fusebox was dry. relays soaked, so it was remove them all and get the hair drier out. Car is now parked on more level ground. Beware! Do not reverse park down a steep driveway else you may suffer the same fate.
  9. Hi, Got woken at 5am by neighbour to say car was turning over! It would turn over by itself for 3-4 turns, have a rest for a minute, then do it again. It is parked on a steep slope with front pointing upwards, so i am thinking that water has got in somewhere, but not sure where at the moment. I have disconnected the battery at the moment. Has anyone else had this, or heard of this weird problem? Thanks in advance Paul
