  1. It's the first fault traceable to manufacture I've had with any of 7 Škodas. I did have an Austin Metro however when I only discovered that the cooling fan wasn't connected when in the queue at Blackpool Illuminations. Don't get me on about my VX Omega!
  2. Solved! After removing the inner panel from the tailgate and the ribbed trunking near the hinges it turned out to be 'nipped' wire in the offside where the grommet on the body-side had caught the wire. As we bought the car new in 2018 and it's not had crash repairs or such, I guess this was a manufacturing fault waiting to show itself.
  3. Thanks, I'll take a look at the "Car" settings tomorrow, however, I cannot see anything in the owner's handbook to suggest it. Opening everything from the internal button doesn't unlock it either.

  5. Yes, you can hear and feel a faint metallic click from the microswitch but it does not actuate the latch. However, a long press on the middle button on the key fob will unlatch it. It suggests than power is not reaching it or the switch is faulty.
  6. What I hear is I think the physical noise of the microswitch, not an electrical or solenoid noise. The latching mechanism works fine from the centre button on both fobs which makes me think the fault lies in the “handle” above the number plate or the wiring associated with it. Again, any thoughts or experience welcome.
  7. Thanks but I don’t think that’s it. It is a problem that happens when I’m outside the car, ignition off with all doors unlocked. It’s just started doing in this week after 3.5 years. I’ve not had problems with previous Fabia /Octavia models in same scenario.
  8. With all the doors open from the fob or from the internal lock/unlock button the tailgate will not open from the outside. There is a quiet click from the rubbery handle above the numberplate but the latch will not disengage. However, if you press the middle button on the fob to unlock the tailgate then it will unlatch. It seems like a problem with the microswitch in the handle mechanism? Anyone know of a solution please?
  9. 2018 Fabia Estate SE L Two days ago I got a "replace battery in key" warning and today key is totally dead. It will not unlock the car. I can unlock the O/S door manually but get "no key detected" error and engine won't crank when I press the starter button. The other key works fine but as we share the car we need both keys. Is it just a case or replacing the CR2032 cell in the keyfob or does it point to a more fundamental problem?
  10. I got the assembly through Bickerton Škoda who were helpful in identifying what I needed. I could not figure out how to get at the fixing bolts and did not want to start dismantling the interior door trim without any plan - hence the local garage. Sorry I cannot be more help.
  11. Mirror assembly (without coloured cover) cost me £121.85 + VAT. Local garage fitted it for £20.
  12. Unfortunately not. I bought the part on-line and sat looking at it for a couple of weeks. In the end the local garage offered to do it for £20 which seemed too good an offer to refuse. Ian
  13. The warning says "Service Now" with no mention of Oil Change or Inspection. The last invoice says long-life oil but makes no mention of whether the service is fixed or variable. I'm reckoning that waiting another 7 weeks will make no difference (it's more than 3 years' old); I'm just curious as to why I'm getting this this warning now and annoyed it keeps pinging at me.
  14. Thanks for the replies. The car is 3.66 years' old and has done 50,068 miles, the first ~3 of which averaged about 15k but the most recent somewhat less. It hasn't been thrashed and gets a run of 250-300 miles at least once a month, a hoiday trip of 1000k plus 20-30 mile trips 3 times a week. (We tend to use our Fabia for shopping; it does 4k per annum and is serviced annually.) There is some possibility the service interval was changed at the last service (major service) in May 2017 but I also had an issue with a exhaust valve sensor last month. I'm surprised that the service seems to have come around so soon - all previous services have been before the warning - and a little infuriated that I cannot turn off the warning. I've budgeted to have it serviced in early May.
  15. The Service Now has appeared though it is only 10 months and 7000 miles since the last service. Car is 1.4 TSI. Is this right. A manual reset doesn't appear to work. Is this a consequence of 'Variable Service Interval'?
  16. Yes, it showed up when I was there but cannot recall the specific code. The odd thing was the EM fault cleared from the display intermittently on 2-3 occasions between booking the car in and it arriving. Seemingly pretty random.
  17. Mine turned out to be an exhaust valve sensor (?). It was this fault that was disabling the start-stop. Sensor replaced and all OK now, start-stop back to normal.
  18. Many thanks. It’s booked in on Wednesday. I just hope it’s not something I have done. .
  19. 13 plate Octavia III 1.4 TSI. Start-Stop failure showed up on central information display followed by Engine Management Warning Light. Question - does Stop-Start failure cause EM warning to appear or does EM warning disable start-stop? Apart from start-stop failure car otherwise seems fine. Any experience / thoughts please?
  20. I’ve the same sort of error but also have Engine Management Warning light on. Car runs fine, except for stop-start. Which is cause and which is effect? Is EM problem causing S-S to disable or S-S issue flagging up EM problem?
  21. Hi, thanks for the replies. The local garage says it is a common problem and that the 'plastic' has stuck to the plugs making it likely to damage the seal if force were used. The car is 3.5 years old but the plugs were not changed at 24k / 2 years on the advice of the Škoda dealer as being 'not necessary for long-life plugs and your service plan'. I'm now left wondering whether to leave well alone and try another garage next year or look for someone sooner who is adept at doing this job. I understand a new set of coils is nigh on £200 plus fitting which is a very high price to pay for replacing 4 plugs. The car otherwise runs fine.
  22. My 1.4TSI Octavia has done 45000 and according to the service schedule needs new spark plugs. My local garage reports they cannot separate the coil packs from the old plugs without damage so if I want to change the plugs I will need new coil packs too. Do the plugs need changing and is it right that the coil packs stick to the plugs?
  23. Thanks again. As Jake mentions it appears that an assembly sans cover, motor, light and mirror glass is available. It looks like I will need to invest in the erWin manual before I attempt the job. I have to admit that my track record with door cards etc. is not good. I invariably snap the clips or their fixings and always end up with a rattle after refitting.
  24. Thanks again. I'll take a look again; though the mirror itself looks similar, the hinge assembly looks very different. Those on the Octavia would seem anchored behind the tweeter speakers rather than lower down. I'll report back!
