  1. Hi, I am posting this in the hope it may help another member having the same trouble. During December my car went into the dealers to have a new ABS unit fitted, upon return, unfortunately it was found that after a weekend's worth of motorway driving with both wife and baby daughter on board that the o/s front brake had been incorrectly connected causing this to lock up when the ABS was fired. Obviously the implications of this dont bare thinking about but luckily the ABS wasnt needed during these journeys and the fault was only discovered by myself on my works car park on monday morning during the snow we had. The dealer then refitted the unit correctly this time. Since then the car developed a pronounced pull to the o/s, upon returning to the dealers I was told it wasnt anything to do with the work carried out and was probably a tracking issue. Had car 4 wheel aligned all was spot on, returned to the dealer who also had this checked and found the same. Checked car over and couldnt find what was causing the problem on two occasions, again I was told nothing they had touched could have caused the problem. This week the car was returned to dealers for 3 days, got the car back today and problem has been fixed. Apparently the steering is computer controlled and somehow the values have been changed by a few degrees to give more assistance on one side, thus the car thinking it was pulling to the left was compensating to the right. All had been fine for the 40000 miles prior to the ABS job. Needless to say the dealer couldn't explain how this had happened and in fact seemed oblivious that you could actually alter these values (Skoda UK suggestion perhaps).

Sorry if I've offended anyone but I've asked for help before without any replies back, a bit of "prompting" this time to a "boring thread" seems to have got some results. I'll have to see what the dealer says tomorrow but to be fair I hav'nt much faith in them after they gave me the car back originally with the ABS unit incorrectly fitted causing 3 wheels to "anti-lock" and one to "lock up" under heavy braking, this was only noticed when I took it back after the weekend and suggested something was wrong. As for the bottom of the car, I've yet to deceide
  3. Yet again I am overwhelmed by your responses to a genuine problem by one of your members, should have asked what colour I should paint the bottom of my car I'd have had hundreds of replys by now !!!!!!
  4. Hi, After a trip to the dealers for a new A.B.S. control unit last friday my vRS now has a pull to the right. For 40000 miles it has driven straight and true and so is now very annoying. I have had the car's tracking checked with a full report and this is fine. Tyre pressures are all correct. Dealer had a quick look this afternoon and cant see anything obvious also rotated the tyres corner to corner and checked non of the brakes were binding. The car is due back at the dealers on wednesday for a full check up but I was wondering if anyone else has had this occuring. Any ideas????????
  5. Good point however it doesnt matter how short your journey, once regen starts it will continue until the soot is burnt off. If you do 10 x 1 mile journeys during the cycle it will still try to regen, the ECU doesnt know how long your journey is going to be. Also doing 40 miles a day doesnt guarantee you wont get regeneration of some sort, I'm not talking about the full "light illuminated on the dash and reduced power" regen (this only occurs once the soot level builds up to a certain level in the filter), this is more of a mild cycle to prevent build up in the first place. There is a post somewhere regarding the actual % soot in the filter and what the ECU does to rectify it. Over the last 2 years my fans have ONLY ever stayed on after the engine has been switched off during one of these "mild regens" and I have never suffered from a flat battery because of this. If you are still concerned then you are best to take the car back to your dealer for a check over.

Hi, This is perfectly normal and is in fact part of the current Diesel Particulate Filter's regeneration cycle, you may also notice a nasty plasticy burning smell coming from the exhaust and the idle speed running slightly higher than normal. This will occur once every so often to burn off the soot particles trapped in the filter. The fans stay on to help reduce the increased temperature of the exhaust gases needed to burn this soot off.   7. Average on trip computer about 39 MPG this is worst case I reckon you will get on road based on full beans mainly urban driving.

I think I'd agree with this, I have the 6000k hids-direct fitted and although they look the business I often wonder if I should have gone more OEM (4300/5000k) as they can attract a bit of attention from people as they are a little on the blue side of white. Ive been running these for nearly 12 months now and have had no issues with distracting fellow motorists or the kit, fitting is easy on the Octy as you can remove the headlight units from the car for fitting, I fitted the same to an E-class Merc and it was a bit of a struggle I can tell you due to poor access. I was told by hids-direct that fitting the ballasts in the clear plastic boxes on the rear of the headlight unit was'nt such a good idea as the heat generated by the ballasts could cause them to overheat if enclosed and so have fitted mine to the rear of these boxes using 3M'S VHB double sided tape just to be on the safe side.
  9. Its the DPF on its regeneration cycle, idle speed is increased during this and you will probably also notice a nasty burning smell around the back of the car when you park up. Its all perfectly normal although strangely some dealer's service depts are still unaware of this cycle.
  10. Hi, I have a vRS 2.0 cr that does the same, I believe the car is meant to hold the revs until you come to a stop with the new cr engines, dont know why but they do it. As regards the engine running at 1000rpm you will find this is part of the Diesel Particulate Filter's (DPF) normal regeneration cycle ,as are the cooling fans running like mad when you switch off sometimes after a short journey. Once the cycle is finished the car will return to its 750-800 rpm idle speed. My dealer's service manager didnt even know about this when I first asked about it, only found out by doing a bit of research on the net myself. Really all this should be explained on delivery thus preventing worried owners thinking there is something wrong. If you are still concerned take the car back to the dealers and ask them.
  11. Update Car went to dealers last Thursday, for 2 days, on advice of SUK for the "E.G.R. valve to be blanked off" to see if this had any bearing on the vibration. Typically despite happening constantly since August, even during dealer scrutiny, and after approx. 4000 miles the vibration seemed to have stopped a few days before this latest dealer visit. Dealer replaced the gasket on the E.G.R. for a thicker/ modified one anyway. So far so good, not sure if car has fixed itself over time or it was my imagination and the gasket has cured it. Will keep you posted on the longevity of this "fix".

I had this on my headlamps too, try unclipping and opening the rear of the headlight units ( as if you were to change a bulb) and leaving the bonnet on the latch for a few hours or overnight if possible, this should clear the condensation naturally. Mine has'nt happened since. Not sure about the fog lights though.
  13. Hi, yes I've done one of these conversions on my Mk2 vRS, very easy to do and works well with no error messages. Make sure you get the right kit as the first one I tried I had problems with the old blown bulb warnings. Latest Update Have now been contacted by the dealer and told that Skoda have looked at the engine data supplied and suggest that the vibration may have something to do with the EGR valve/system. Dealer now wants the car for 2 days to check this possibility out. Hope this is finally a solution and not another wasted trip to the dealers.

Just a quick update: I have been contacted by my dealer to say Skoda have requested they have my car back in to the dealership again so they can take even more information/readings from the ECU/engine, still no fix mentioned though. On the flip side since I removed the offending plastic lid that was stuck in the engine "nothing to do with the dealership who serviced it, honest guvnor it wasnt there when we had it, never seen it before etc, etc." the car is running a lot smoother and apart from the vibration at 1500rpm it is almost as it once was. Will let you know if and when Skoda have a solution. In the mean time its back for yet another day at Autosales, oops!!!!!
  16. Thats exactly what I first thought it could have been used for and am slightly concerned that if it was, what was in it when it fell into the engine ????. Dealer denied this and said they use special magnetic trays to put loose bolts/srews in. I would'nt mind so much if the dealer had admitted the possibility of missing it ( its not such a big deal and we all make mistakes) but I cannot stand being blatantly lied to !!!!!!!!
  17. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear !!!!! Today still no response from Skoda, so as I had a few minutes I thought I'd have a quick poke around under the bonnet. I spotted wedged between a hose/pipe and the engine just under the air filter box, a red plastic lid about 4 inches in diameter by 1/2 inch high. This could be seen if looking at an angle without having to remove anything from the engine bay and I managed to fish it out with a piece of wire. The vibration is still there at 1500 rpm but unbelievably the engine now feels smoother through the rest of the rev range (very much as it had been prior to the service). Although this hasn't solved the problem it casts doubt on how well the dealer inspected the engine for any loose items after my initial complaint of vibration when the car was returned following the service. I look the offending article to the dealer and suprise, suprise they denied that it had been there when they inspected the engine (twice). The service manager said that he had personally inspected the engine with the air filter box, scoop and hoses removed and that he could "categorically" say it was'nt there 2 weeks ago when it was last inspected :thumbdwn:. One problem, no one else has lifted the bonnet since the car was picked up 2 weeks ago :confused:, so unless the fairies at the bottom of the garden have been at it again, Ill leave you to your own conclusions. Again, this has'nt fixed the serious vibration at 1500 rpm, but at least it doesnt feel like a tractor the rest of the time.

  19. What if engines with this trait were already fitted by Skoda into their cars and sold, before VAG were entirely happy to start fitting them into VW/Audi's. I believe the new A4 in CR170 guise was released for sale to the public later than the other models in the range even though it was released for the media to test at launch. I'm not sure if more recently produced cars are effected, as mine was one of the early CR's made in 2008. I'm not suggesting we all panic or that all CR's are effected, but there are other owners with this problem out there that have been fobbed off by dealers and are forced to live with an unacceptable problem. The more people who realise that this is not normal for CR170 engines be it in Octavias or Superbs then maybe Skoda will be forced to come up with a solution. In the mean time I am still awaiting that magic phone call to say the issue has been identified and resolved and that they can fix my car and restore my faith in Skoda.
  20. Unfortunately as much as I wish it was, it isnt the old air scoop problem. You can feel the vibration through the pedals, steering wheel and drivers seat both when revved stationary and when on the move. Funny you should mention the out of balance wheel feel as I have recently noticed this at high speed. It appears that cars effected vary in mileage, if you notice this on any other car with the CR170 engine dont be fobbed off by the dealer, there is a problem and it needs addressing !!!!!
  21. Unfortunately Paul it appears to be a generic problem with the CR170 engine, as of yet Skoda is unable to pin point the problem let alone fix it. My dealer is currently working on 3 cars with the same problem with this engine. If they come up with a fix I will post it on here. Good luck.
  22. After 18500 miles of happy motoring (aside from broken aircon after 6 months) my vRS 170 CR has developed problems. After its first service it developed a nasty vibration/ resonance especially bad around the 1500 rpm mark but can be felt throughout the rev range when on the move making the once smooth engine feel really rough, this was assumed to be something left loose after the service. However after 2 visits to the dealer and a "recording" sent to Skoda (still awaiting a response) they dont know what is causing the problem let alone how to fix it. It feels very much like something mechanical rather than a loose item. I have been told it is safe to continue to drive the car and whilst asking today for a correspondance to confirm this, the dealer admitted they have 3 cars with the same engine showing the same fault (although typically mine is the worst!!!) with as of yet no known fix. There are another 3 people on this site with new Superbs that also have the same problem and I have heard of other Octy owners being told, when mentioned to dealers, that the vibration is normal as "they all do that". I believe that Audi/VW delayed the lauch of their new models last year with this engine due to vibration problems but Skoda appeared to have pushed on regardless. I wonder how long it will take Skoda to come up with a solution for what appears to be a generic problem????, I feel a replacement engine coming on !!!!!!
  23. Quick update, car went into the dealers last thursday for the day and despite agreeing that there is a problem they still hav'nt got a clue what is causing it let alone how to fix it. They have sent a recording to Skoda of the problem and are awaiting their suggestions. One week on and still hav'nt heard anything from Skoda so I assume they are stuggling too. Oh happy days!!!!!
  24. Thanks, have only used BP Ultimate since I've had the car from new and have refuelled about 3 times since but with no change. I did think about if they had monkeyed around with the ECU but it sounds/feels more mechanical than anything and with other CR170 owners suffering the same without the service I think maybe something has worked loose. Funny thing is it doesnt seem to happen when the car is cold, unless its my imagination. Hopefully the dealer will sort it on thurs, as I'm not accepting it back until it's fixed !!!!!
