  1. Thanks for the reply, part of me thinks it is something and nothing but then I don't fancy getting stuck on the motorway towing a caravan. I'll get it looked at when the brakes and MOT are done this week and hope I don't get fleeced for a master cylinder which doesn't really need replacing: ) What would a typical/fair price to have a master cylinder replaced?
  2. Hi Last weekend when I got in the car I noticed that the clutch was half way down from usual position. My wife said oh it did feel a bit odd last night when she drove it. I physically (with ease) pulled it up and it seemed fine. No having to pump the clutch. Changes all smooth. One day this week I parked the car got out and very soon after there was a bit of a thud noise. Looked around got back in the car checked the clutch as I thought it might be related but all seems fine.... could have been a bird flying in to the car for all I know: ) This morning I get in the car as I depress the pedal there was a click/thud (not metallic sounding) at the top of the travel, travel length seemed usual. I repeated the pressing the pedal and it stopped after 4 or 5 goes. I've checked the reservoir (there is only on isn't there for both clutch and brakes?) and it appear near to the max line, slightly over the bottom of the yellow filter/insert. On a side note the discs and pads are very close to needing changing at the front and rears aren't that far behind. Any thoughts as to what the problem might be. Octavia 1.6 TDi SE Hatch, close to 60,000 miles. Thanks Simon
  3. Thanks I did wonder just how much material was there in the first place. This is a pic of a front pad.
  4. Thanks for the replies. No report. I thought the new MOT might have provided more info. Just had a look (poked camera at several angles behind the wheel) and no sensor and having pushed and poke my fingers around the pads I suspect around 4mm on the front pads. I think I'll bite the bullet and get them done before any damage is done to the disks themselves as I'll be keeping the car for another couple of years. Thanks Simon
  5. Hi Just had the car MOT'd and no advisories. I asked about bake pad wear and the guy said probably another couple of thousand miles and warned about going down to the rivets. I came away thinking if they were so low wouldn't it have been an advisory and isn't there a wear sensor on the brakes? Is he just latching on to me showing concern or should I carry on until wear indicator comes on? If I need to change are Bosche pads good enough or would you recommend other brand? Cheers Simon
  6. Hi I have a 2013 1.6TDi Octavia SE 5E which has been paired with a Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 and Bolero unit. It has been working flawlessly until a a few months ago. It started to have pairing issues but would sort itself out, occasionally I'd reboot the phone and turn of the ignition, etc. My phone and Bolero unit will currently not recognise each other. I've deleted the paired settings on both devices, done a hard reset of the phone, etc. Still won't pair. The Bolero screen advises on Device Search, 'Searching for devices... Bluetooth audio stopped. Please check the Bluetooth function and visibility are enabled on your mobile Bluetooth device (mobile telephone, audio player, etc).' Has anyone had a similar experience? Advice would be gratefully received. Simon
  7. Thanks for the reply. Woah.... 140k! My car has only done 36k so I'll give it another 12 months then have it done.
  8. Hi I have a 2013 Cambelt interval for 2013 5E 1.6 TDI CR SE, am I right in thinking that the cambelt interval is 100k miles? What about age of belt... is that still a factor? Regards Simon
  9. I've just changed my 1.9TD Ambiente for another one. I had it 4 years and it had covered 51800 miles when sold. I never used to alter the trip 2 (occassionally by accident) so average mileage would be done over atleast 10,000 miles often much more and it never dropped below 54.7mpg. Which I think is fantastic! Going to work on a 15 mile trip (inc motorway driving) I would be upset if I didn't get above 70mpg. Coming home it would be more like 54mpg. Which I suppose suggests more hills!! Economy is very good form this engine!
  10. Hi What can I expect to pay for a 60,000 service for a 1.9TD PD Octavia. I doubt that the brakes will need doing as they were done on the last service. Cheers Simon
