  1. Hi all On Thursday night I broke down in Wales, clutch pedal dropped to the floor as I was going to change gear. Managed to get it towed back to a garage on Friday, and we found that the pipe connecting to the clutch bleed nipple from the clutch master/slave cylinder had come off. I had a new clutch fitted at the end of last year, and we thought that the pipe may not have been fitted properly. Between me and the guy at the garage we bleed the clutch and fitted the pipe securely and I managed to get on my way. Driving the car again yesterday the same thing has happened, clutch pedal has dropped to the floor, fortunately much nearer home this time. Any ideas how it would become so pressurised that the pipe managed to blow itself off again? When we bled the clutch we noticed some fine alloy pieces, so wondering if the master/slave cylinder has had it and is in need of replacing?
  2. Hey Simon I'd love to know where this resistor lives. I've been driving around with the glove box off for the past couple of weeks, today I found some time to have a good poke around but I'm at a total loss where to find it, the Haynes manual clearly shows the white plastic housing off the resister but that doesn't seem to match mine at all. I even took out the pollen filter, wondering if it was integrated in to that somewhere. Its getting really annoying now :|
  3. Hi guys Is there a separate resistor? I've got an Oct VRS 2007, I thought on the aircon models the resistor was built in to the fan? So far I've replaced the fan, my mate had a spare control unit which i've tried but still no joy. I went back to the drawing board and checked all the fuses again but still no joy. Kind of running out of ideas...
  4. Hi all I was just wondering if someone can help me. Got back to to my car a few weeks ago, switched the engine on and the heater control panel lights were out and the heaters/blowers didn't work. Presumed it was a blown fuse, and subsequently replaced the fuse only to blow the fuse almost immediately. Reading on here the main suggestions seemed to be heater motor, removing the heater motor the motor turns freely but it was looking like its seen better days so sourced a replacement rather than paying the garage quoted price of £380!!! Fitting that today and replacing the fuse, the heater control panel lights are on, the dials appear work but the heater motor is not turning. What do people think should be my next steps? Look to replace the heater control panel? Auto Electrician? Cheers Mike
  5. Thanks for the replies. Yep its a climatronic one. Where is it, if I don't need to remove the glove box?
  6. Hi all The heater/air blowers have ceased to work on my Octy VRS. Fuse had blown, however replacing the fuse, it quickly blew again. Guessing its the heater motor which has seized or is stuck. I asked at my local garage whilst MOTing my car about it and they priced up a replacement motor at a whopping £380. A quick Google tonight, it looks like I'll be doing it myself at that price :-0 Any ideas where the heater motor actually lives?
  7. Hi guys Well, if the guzzling coolant and whiring turbo weren't a sign that the engine was in need of some TLC, the oil pressure sensor light popped on the other day. After the garage replaced the oil pressure sensor, it has continued to come on and all signs are pointing to the engine being royally shagged. The garage is suggesting big end bearing and possibly camshafts, but without stripping it down its anyones guess. By the look of things its probably going to be more economical labour wise to source a second hand or refurbed engine for my Octy VRS. Engine code is: BMN. The garage have drawn a blank with sourcing a replacement engine so far after two weeks of looking, and I'm beginning to get a bit frustrated with them. I've seen a few pop up on Ebay but its really a shot in the dark what you are buying. Does anyone have any recommendations of suppliers of refurbished engines? Cheers
  8. Hi guys Its a long time since I checked in but seems there is still a huge wealth of info on here. I've been out of the country for the past couple of years with work, and in between that time my brother has been looking after my car. Before I left I noticed a small amount of coolant loss every couple of thousand miles, but this has moved on a good bit over that time and I'm now topping up the coolant up every 200-300 miles which is pretty concerning! I'd read about the PD engine having a porous head and suffering from minor coolant loss so never really thought much of it, with the current amount of coolant loss I figured there must be a leak in the system but cannot see anything obvious at all and the system was pressure tested which didn't show anything up, plus I've not noticed any deposits on the inside of the oil filler cap or oil mixed in with the coolant. Got to admit I've been scratching my head, but after another search on here, a few of the posts I've read point to the EGR valve which I'm guessing will also account for a grumbly sounding turbo. Anyone had anything similar and ideas of my next steps? Replace EGR valve costs versus Darkside EGR Delete Kit? Even after dropping that money will I still have a grumbly turbo? Expecting this to hit the wallet hard!
  9. Hi all My Octy VRS is in need of some TLC in the form of a turbo refurb and tracking down a long running coolant leak. Working over in Cheshire during the week - Nortwich area. Could anyone point me at a decent indy specialist that I may be able to use? Cheers Mike
  10. Dropped the car off at the garage this morning, and the missus has just picked it up. Spent a bit of time this morning describing the problem and equipped with some of the advice on this thread talked through what I thought it could be. They've taken the car out for a drive and then put it on the ramp. He agreed the ride was 'a bit bumpy' but can't see anything that needs replacing. After those pearls of wisdom he said to the missus he'd do any work I wanted him to do. Sort of defeats the object, I've taken it to him for his professional opinon, I'm not one to throw money at things for the for the sake of it. Time to take it somewhere else I guess.
  11. Shocks probably look as though they could do with replacing. Looking through the service history this evening I can't even see that they've ever been replaced. At 130K I'd have thought they may have been replaced by now. I'm sort of guessing its a combination of shot shocks and some of the bushes wishbone bush, ARB or similar. I've booked it in to the garage on Wednesday so will see what they have to say. Unfortunately they're not exactly forthcoming sometimes so had hoped to generate a few ideas.
  12. Hi guys Just wondering if anyone can offer their thoughts, the general feel of steering on my Octavia has declined over the past 6 months, the overall feel is alot looser with quite a bit of play in the steering wheel and it generally feels quite light. I've sort of perserved with it rather than getting the problem sorted but I've got to the point where it just needs sorting as its got past the niggle stage. Recently I had the car serviced and asked the guys to check the front ARB bushes as I thought they might be the likely candidate causing the feeling of looseness. Helpful as ever the guys checked them but didn't think they needed changing but pointed out my front tyres were on their way out. Upon changing the tyres I noticed the inside shoulder of the tyres were pretty much bald. Not quite sure what would likely cause this uneven wear - wishbones, or tie rods? I've also noticed the tracking is slightly out, but guess its not even worth shelling out on the tracking until sorting out my first problem as this could inevitably throw things and mean the tracking needs to be redone. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
  13. Thanks for your patience! After I'd posted up the image and had a good look and that sensor jumped out at me. Sods law that you then confirm its the one, could have changed it in the time it took to take the photo, upload it and post to the thread. Done this morning, as you say a quick fix once you know where you are looking. Mike
  14. Chris cheers for the reply. I've been working away for the early part of the week so only just coming back to this now. Still struggling to find this sensor even after quite a bit of time spent tonight, either I'm being thick or this sensor is not at all obvious. I'm looking round here but nothing is jumping out at me.
  15. 33 views and still no reply. Is the Fuel Temp Sensor really that elusive?
