Considering a Roomster, quick question on room
malcolmwoodyatt replied to MCG1975's topic in Skoda Roomster (2006-2015)
I have had Roomsters for 12yrs. Best car ever owned. Very roomy for its size and flexible. Get the tsi engine, very quiet and plenty of power with 105bhp engine. Good luck with your search. -
I have a 2014 Skoda Fabia 1.6 cr elegance, the spare tyre is now 5yrs old and has never seen the light of day, would this still be serviceable. I am changing the tyres on the car this month. Spare tyre is Bridgestone T005.

SurreyJohn would have been my choice the Vredestein but couldn’t find them in that size. Have decided to go for Bridgestone T005 a bit noisy I’ve heard but quite hard wearing. Thanks for the advice.

Mark 1 PD 80 engine life.
malcolmwoodyatt replied to malcolmwoodyatt's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
Thanks sepulchrave I am a bit of a stickler for regular servicing, regardless of low mileage. -
Shortly to get back our mark 1 pd80 Bohemia estate (2007) from my daughter after 5yrs, it has done 48k . Is the life expectancy of this engine as good as the pd105( assuming correct engine oil has been used and regular servicing)? Hope to keep it going for a number of years, annual mileage c5k. Many thanks. Any big milers with this engine out there? Cambelt was changed at 28k.

Surrey John - thanks for the reply have trawled the internet not many choices in this size 205 45 16. May go for Fallen Ze310's. Not for me actually swapping cars with my daughter and want her to have some decent boots on the car.

Hi very good offer on this tyre ai Kwikfit at the moment. Would this be a suitable tyre for my Fabia mk2 1.6 elegance estate, as it sounds more like a sporty hi performance tyre? Many thanks.

Change of keeper and tax.
malcolmwoodyatt replied to malcolmwoodyatt's topic in General Automotive Chat
Thanks mrgf but we live 75miles apart. Cars are kept on driveway. But I believe changing the registered keeper is almost instantaneous doing it online. -
Change of keeper and tax.
malcolmwoodyatt replied to malcolmwoodyatt's topic in General Automotive Chat
Thank you peter3197. I was a little confused as I rang dvla and they said tax it first. Then read that if you change keeper the tax is automatically stopped, and refunded less the current month to the last keeper. -
I am shortly going to swap fabias with my daughter( mk2 for mk1) doing the transfers and tax online. Do I tax the new vehicle first then transfer the keeper or the other way round? Many thanks I’m sure you learned people will know. Looking up on the internet I get conflicting views. Malcolm

All weather tyres any asymmetrical?
malcolmwoodyatt replied to malcolmwoodyatt's topic in Tyres & Wheels
Sorry I mean an all season tyre such as Michelin Cross Climate. -
Are there any all weather tyres on the market that are not directional?
-
Spare wheel for directional tyres.
malcolmwoodyatt replied to malcolmwoodyatt's topic in Skoda Roomster (2006-2015)
I already have a full size spare. Just wondering if an asymmetrical tyre would suffice temporarily on the same axle as an all weather tyre, assuming a puncture( driving carefully of course). -
Thinking of getting all season tyres when the existing ones wear out. What do you do about the spare, as I assume you need two to cover for directional tyres? Is it ok to have a conventional tyre as the spare?

Changed my roomster.
malcolmwoodyatt replied to malcolmwoodyatt's topic in Skoda Roomster (2006-2015)
Thank you Robjon. Best car I've ever had for practicality, reliability, and economy, with a small footprint . -
Popped into the local dealer to get some warranty work done on my wife's Fabia 1.6cr(new injector), when I saw this 14plate roomster in mint condition. Ex motability only 5k on the clock, 1.2 tsi with dsg. We ummed and aaahd, eventually took it for a test drive and was won over with it. Never had an automatic before but was so quiet and smooth changing. This replaces a roomster 1.9 pd 57plate 81k, which never gave a spot of bother. Not so economical as the 1.9 pd but noticeably quieter, but the noise never bothered me. A lot of torque and the gearbox is a perfect match for the 105bhp engine. Didn't think I would get an almost new roomster now that it has been discontinued. I am well pleased,I love my marmite car.

Thinking of getting a set of four of these for the roomster, what happens about the spare it is a normal summer tyre, should I get 5?
