Thought I heard a slight noise when going up the drive, now exhaust is making an awful noise from the front, seems to be somewhere under the engine itself. Suppose I'll have to ring the garage in the morning, any ideas what i've done, cost? it could possibly just be old age and it's just a hole.

Found this as I was lurking about, just recieved £60 cheque for cost of repairs done at another garage after I complained bitterly about service/ quality of work completed. Bit of a result...

Quick update, idle issue still sorted running smooth. Big complaint letter sent to HQ with copies of all bills re brakes. Oh yes they charged for new caliper not just unsiezed the broke one and on the MOT fail docs all the issues were on the side they "fixed". Don't think I'll be able to prove it was their work which initially caused the fault after they replaced the tyres but I think they should be liable for the work they have done.

Further info for Ken, after the tyres were changed and my scare on the motorway I returned to said garage and explained the issue, the eventual reason was given as a siezed caliper and a warped disc on drivers side which caused the violent shudder and jerking to the right. There were no apparent issues before this but I thought well I'm not a mechanic. One of my other concerns was I mentioned the stalling I had voucher for MOT and service and thought why not and even though stalling issue was added to their job sheet they said they could not find anything wrong with it. My question is would an imbalance in the brakes have been apparent to the garage when fitting new caliper etc a week before they failed the MOT for brakes.

This is my sorry tale, first some little ****er slashed 2 tyres drivers side the nice RAC man took me to a garage that had tyres in stock, price okish too, few days later car went mental pulled right violently at speed (60mph) went back to garage who eventually found faulty brake disc/caliper on side where new tyres were fitted (suspicious?). Fixed at a highish price. 1 week later the MOT failed on a brake imbalance which they fixed as part of the service. Should there have been a problem after they had the car in for repairs, surely this is not normal. Not giving name of garage for legal reasons but stinky complaint letter sent to HQ. Any similar experiences out there?

Got car back this morning runs great, mechanic did everything that I'd picked up here cleaning throttle and idle control and put system conditioner through. If you get stuck in North East England I would reccomend DB Motoors in Birtley as I'm very happy with the service/price.

Hmm seems to be a pattern here, mine started with an awful juddering when pulling up at junctions now just stops dead. When I feel it going I just touch the gas to keep the revs on which is a pain in the ankle when in schoolrun traffic. phoned small garage who said "sounds like dirty fuel filter" same as a few posts on this site so will let you know when I get car back. Cheers everyone.

Going to try a small family type garage today, not much of a mechanic myself so will expalin problem and hope their good. Still more annoyed that a large chain repaired a fault on my barkes which started after they changed 2 tyres, then failed the MOT a week later because of a brake imbalance!!!! Passed MOT with minor problems but garage said they could not find any problem with cutting out at junctions. Not impressed as one of the faults was with brake balance, they had the car a couple of weeks ago after a problem with the brakes, which was a week after they replaced 2 tyres. There's a few mentions of low idle speed and stalling on this site going to try a new garage but want to quiz the mechanic. Any ideas as to what the probem is? How expensive?
