  1. Mine's called Opal. I've always named my cars. I do speak to her, especially if I've just crunched the gears or similar and apologise ^_^ I'm a loony.

  3. Surely it's got to be some sort of set up, I mean to have your face very visible and have it up on the internet, you wouldn't do that if it was real. Well, I hope it wasn't real. The alternative is too harsh to think about. :'(
  4. Thanks everyone for a nice evening out, it made a pleasant change!
  5. I am an engineer (I work for myself) and if I can't fit it safely in the car, it doesn't come with me! I get someone to take it to site or borrow a van! The hubby and his colleagues are in the same position, but work for a company. The company did try to get them to carry unsafe loads and in the end the engineers put their foot down, claimed H&S and in the end the company gave way. Again, they either take one of the work's vans or it gets couriered to site. Remember, whilst the company is responisble for providing the correct equipment, it is you as the driver who will suffer if there's an accident or get nicked if pulled by the old bill! You just need to be firm with them, it may not be their fault that they don't know what your job is, but that's just tough.
  6. Yes, it was like it had had a new interior put it. It was almost 'oh, so that's what the colour's meant to look like!'
  7. Ha, yes, I will make sure I don't drive until Tuesday, and then put plastic sheets over the interior No, it will be cool, all shall bow befors my car's awesomeness! Also hubby will be coming along. I think he really misses his old vRS.
  8. Hi, I'd like to come over for my first meet! I will be bringing my Octy MkI L&K, although it sounds like it will pale in comparison to the other cars! Anything I need to know?
  9. I had my car valeted by oggy yesterday. I have to say, I was very impressed! My octavia has the tan interior, which does look rather nice, but is a real dirt magnet. Plus, I bought it about three months ago, and I don't think it had ever been cleaned. Yuk! Also, during these three months, I have been a bit wary of cleaning the seats as it is also the L&K interior, so I have lovely leather and suede. Also I was kinda lazy Paul did a lovely job. The carpet is about ten shdaes lighter, the seats look fantastic - he also kindly kept the waste water from the carpet and windows to show me how much dirt had come out. I think I've seen cleaner swamp water! He took his time on the car and cleaned everything thoroughly - he even put some proper valeting air freshener so it smells lovely now too! Also, if anyone is interested, he has a Octavia MkI vRS for sale. I wish I had the money for it! It looks really nice and under the bonnet s smart in silver and blue with a fetching engine guard. Anyone looking for a 1.8T vrs should drop him a line as it's definitely one of the nicer ones I've seen.
  10. I found they were very good on price and reset my Octy back to variable servicing, but I was disappointed that they didn't do all the work I asked them to do. Checked my pollen filter a couple of days after getting serviced there, and the pollen filter was absolutely filthy. The air filter hadn't been changed or cleaned either. Admittedly, I wasn't charged for them, but I would have liked them changed.
  11. Cruise control is a godsend! I have to travel all over the UK, so frequently encounter average speed cameras (just recently a new lot has been put up at J19, M1). My odometer reads 5mph over so I can safely do 75 along the 70s, but I admit, I normally slow it down to 70 (really 65) and sit on CC during average speed cameras. I am a bit nervous though, as not long ago I dodged points on my licence and attended a speed safety course. However, I can't attend another for 3 years! I wasnt to keep my licence clean! As frustrating as it is, I can understand why people dip 10mph down below a limit. Interesting point though about NSLs for cars - at the SAC, everyone was asked what the NSL was for cars on a dual carriage way was. Only one guy and I were correct, everyone else thought it was 60, bar one who thought it was 50!
  12. Red Dwarf The Prisoner (new and old) Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes Jonathon Creek Scrubs Thunderbirds Does anime count? If so, Death Note. Not so keen on US stuff, but I'm getting into more of it.
  13. 1 - Heart FM 2 - Radio 2 I haven't got round to programming the others yet! It's a bit of a shame as I had a DAB radio in my previous car, but I wanted to keep everything in the Octy standard. Also I wasn't sure if an aftermarket stereo would work with the CD changer properly. Goodbye Planet Rock... :'(
  14. Congrats! I don't think I'll ever be brave enough to have kids

  16. Chocolate covered malted milk biscuits are better than sex. FACT.
  17. On the A14 yesterday I was sitting behind a lorry overtaking another lorry (at 1mph faster as usual!). Just as my nose started to pass the tailgate of the slower lorry, a motorcyclist came tearing up from behind through the miniscule gap between us, and between the lorry in front just as it was past the slow lorry and in all likelihood about to pull in. I said some rather rude words as I couldn't believe what had happened, and then some more as I he proceeded to do exactly the same to the next set of lorry overtakers. Crazy bloke is going to get himself killed! I know the A14 is crap, but most sensible riders sit there with the rest of us. On the other hand, my dad's been knocked off his bike a few times, mostly SMIDSYs from cars, but one from a fellow rider jumping a red light. I think that drivers/riders are just as bad as each other!
  18. I was driving through a 40 limit the other day... at least I could have sworn it was a 40 right up to the point that the camera flashed. Completely my fault and sure enough a few days later the form came through that I dutifully fill in and send off. I recieve a letter today from Northant's finest that I can attend a speed awareness course and save myself a fine and the points on my licence. Needless to say it is booked, but I wondered if anyone has been on one and what is it like? I don't believe the bit about 'we won't treat you like a criminal' as I broke the law. Okay, it was more negligence than on purpose but still I'm hoping this course is worth it to keep my licence clean. :(
  19. Do you have the service light come on at fixed intervals or is it variable? Mine's the variable (longlife) and I know I have to put the fully synthetic stuff in mine. I looked in Halfrauds the other day using their flip cards and it was a £21.99 for a 2l bottle, I daresay you can get it cheaper elsewhere.
  20. Is it that you need something with a serial port? I only ask as I need a serial port to communicate with equipment in my job, but all the new ones only have USBs. Quick trip on fleaBay and I got a USB to serial adaptor. Works perfectly. I do also have and old 98 based laptop with a serial port, but I'm not sure what state it's in.
  21. Yep, get yourself down the docs, better safe than sorry. Not that you would, but don't bother ringing NHS direct as they'll only advise the same.
  22. First Offence: Public Humiliation and Community Work Second Offence: Death by Shooting. Problem Solved
  23. Ha ha, the first one is ace, he must live in the same sort of place I do. The second is good too ^_^
