  1. The Uniroyals Rallye 550 seem to be fairly quiet from what I have read. The Which report does rate noise but most tyres are 3 or 4 stars so little between them but I suppose the harder the rubber the more noise but more mpg, less wear, less grip. From reviews Ive seen the Uniroyals or Yokohamas seem the best mid price tyres.
  2. I have just looked at the Which? report and I think I will go for the Uniroyal Rally 550 at £66 each, Yokohama C Drive are £62. My Bridgestones come out well in the report but that does not seem to consider wear and price. Also in Tyrereviews users feedback is not good for Bridgestones but Uniroyal are very good, so are Yokohama. One point in the Which? report I noticed was the difference between different sizes for the same make of tyre, which makes it difficult to compare. They do not test 195/55 15 tyres which are unusual size and expensive.
  3. Sounds about right, mpg drops when going over 70 and going up hills. My Fabia I 1.4 petrol did 45mpg at best, no better than cars I had 30 years ago. Catholithic convertors cut mpg. I now have a diesel, 1.4TDI and get over 55mpg overall and best is 67 mpg. I get about 50% more mpg than my old petrol.
  4. You should be getting over 50mpg, what does the computer say, mine is very accurate. Also if you keep the speed down to about 60mph, mpg will improve considerably. As it new the mpg should improve, also check other posts about running-in diesel engines. I get over 55mpg overall, mainly short/town driving and a few long trips. With careful driving you should get over 60mpg on your commute.
  5. Thanks for the response, I have had a look at the website, looks like Yokohama C Drive is a possibility, has anyone used these on a Fabia II 1.4TDI? And they are about £20 cheaper.
  6. I have a Fabia 2 1.4 TDI and I need to replace the front tyres soon. The original tyres are Bridgestones Turanza 195/55/15, I have only done 12,000 so I think tyre wear is excessive or it this usual for these tyres, rear tyres are about half worn so should do 20,000. My last car Fabia 1.4 petrol did 25,000 on Michelin Eco. I was thinking of buying Continental Contact 2 next, I have read that they are better on the Fabia than Bridgestones, esp. ride and tramlining. Regarding tramlining I thought this was down to the low profile tyres, but I hired a Polo 1.4 TDI and the ride/handling was fine so I was surprised that it had 195/55/15 tyres on it, they were Dunlops by the way.
  7. No I have not, I will have a look. With over 530 miles covered and still 75 miles still remaining on fuel range, looks like trip com is fairly accurate, has shown 61mpg on 2 long trips with short round town included, so 60 mpg would about right.
  8. Fabia 1.4/80 TDI 5100 miles, 1st trip 220 miles (10 miles town, 190 miles motorway, 20 miles country) motoway was slow due to accidents/congestion. Tripcom was 62mpg. My old petrol Fabia1.4 8v only showed 50mpg at best but tripcom was 10% high ie 50mpg was actually only 45mpg using brim to brim measure at pump over several fill ups. Old petrol was average about 38 mpg careful driving. 45mpg on long trips and about 30 mpg around town, hopefully diesel will be much better esp. in town.
  9. I have just changed from Fabia 1.4 8v petrol to Fabia 1.4 TDI (80) so I will be posting about mpg differences etc. So far tripcom shows mpg 60 which compares with petrol tripcom of 50 at best. Old tripcom was always about 10% more than actual, ie tripcom 50mpg actual 45mpg. Hope new tripcom is more accurate. Herbie
