  1. As above. I'm wanting to put 17s on my vRS I place of the current 18s. Anyone up for a swap, I'm based in nottingham?
  2. There will be a negligible difference in performance between brake discs, just stick go OEM or equivalents. Braking performance is all in the pads, unless you're looking at bigger discs or calipers. Also avoid drilled discs, there's a reason we don't race with them.
  3. Sadly at that price range you will not havr the best coilovers by a large margin. At that price range I would advise looking at a B12 Bilstein suspension or an alternate good lowering spring matched to a Bilstein B8 damper. You often get people expressing how good cheaper coilovers are but that's typically because they won't have tried anything better. My advice would be buy the best premium product you can, in this instance a high quality spring and damper combo versus a cheap coilover
  4. What spoiler is it? Looks really smart! Out of interest, does the facelift TSI vRS use the same exhaust as the pre-facelift TFSI? I know the turbo is different but not sure if the outlet is the same.
  5. The problem is the Mini is really highly strung (252hp) and one mis-shift and its 2 grand to replace the head. I could replace the engine on a vRS for 500 lol and it will run 360hp with minimal work, cost and wear. I'm currently sat in the middle of power class at 225hp/ton where the limit is 240hp/ton. I can't get to that value without a turbo conversion, at which point t I'm in the next class and having to put ballast in the car. The Mini is quality though, it's just worth more in parts, hence the strip. Roll cages are rarely custom at this level unless the car hasn't got one available on the market, which in this case is where we're at. The cages are ultimately all built to the same design methodology as per Motorsports UK regulations. The Mk5 Golf for instance, there are about 10 cage manufacturers, each with multiple cage variants available, sat in the shelf ready to go. By way of update, I now know JP Cages can provide a 6 point cage for £1950 which includes VAT, design as its their first one, and installation. Should anyone buy a cage from them on the future, they can thank me as it will be cheaper since its then a designed and approved cage lol. My initial thoughts are to aim for Class A which is 240-300hp/ton. Realistically, i expect I could get the car to 1250-1400kg with me in it and with a TSI K04 Turbo conversion, I'll be in the region of 360hp which gives around 290hp/ton.
  6. Would love to find out who drives this car now lol, poor buggers
  7. I've been racing my Mini for the last few years but for some reason I have an urge to strip it for parts and convert the Octavia into a race car instead. Doesn't look like there is a cage available though and pending the cost of a custom job it may not be viable. Anyone know of one? This is the current race car
  8. Found out the answer, There is a sticker on the passenger side door sill. It has 2 figures, the first is braked towing weight (1900kg), the second is the gross train weight (3333kg) Just bought one, I need to get her in the scales now to work out a weight with fuel and me in it, then I can work out the spare capacity I have.
  9. Evening guys, thinking about coming back to a vRS after selling mine back in 2008. I would need to tow my race car every now and then, and am happy that the combined trailer and race car are below the braked towing capacity. My concern is what the maximum authorised mass or gross train weight is for the vRS, trailer and race car and all the stuff in the boot etc. I can't find it anywhere in literature or online is what the MaM or gross train weight is. I believe it may be one of the kg figures on the vin plates? I've attached an image of my mondeo, that shows the car has a maximum mass of 2170kg fully loaded and the maximum the overall weight (car + car contents +trailer+trailer contents) cannot exceed 3970kg. Thats of course assuming you have a licence allowing you to drive anything exceeding 3500kg, which I do. Can anyone advise? Ta
  10. Not been on here for a while but Just read this from the start. Phenomenal. That to me is everything a car needs to be. There is nothing better than seeing people's reactions toi things they dont expect. Oh and your driving is pump. i suggest you heed Jabos advice. Some Say...that he's the stig lol
  11. I vaguely remember a very protracted thread in which you informed us all brake upgrades would not improve the braking performance.
  12. You are correct that shark said they didn't think it could be taken any further with tuning. But the reason i changed software was not to do with more power it was to do with a dangerous map and excessive smoke. I find it bizarre that your informing me of the reason why I changed! Bored of this now. It's only getting childish and tit for tat. Lovely to chat ......
  13. Your on form and evidently mentally lacking! Here is the evidence (all taken from my posts on this forum) Those figures were I quoted were already minus atmospheric (Again). Either way, would it matter? Look at the delta between the requested and achieved boost profile (heres some pictures/graphs because evidently you lack the ability to read and more importantly digest words!) So if we talking with atmospheric the car was requesting 3Bar+ without 2Bar+ . Do you need me to explain anything else, or can you bend your mind around that? (http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/248060-new-custom-map/?hl=%2Bboost#entry3049965) Shark Stage 2 Jabba Stage 2 Do you notice the distinct difference in the mapping styles. One ramped the boost up way above the achievable otuput of the turbo (so of course they couldn't foresee any further tuning potential in my car if thats how they made their power as their software was already maxed out). The other went for a much lower achievable boost which ran lower IATs, lower fueling, and lower boost, (And made more peak power!) For reference, this was my car running the standard map As for i wasnt aware f this, I logged the car with VCDS myself before I even approached Jabbasport. And yes Jabbasport even logged the car themselves and I quote "were horrified" with the way it had been mapped. Your turn.... FAO Ben@ Shark. My apologies, i didn't want to bring any of this back up again, its already been done before, im merely trying to correct said individuals post where he has made alleged "factual" posts which evidently are nthing of the sort.
  14. Did you not read the next paragraph? So despite shark saying fueling was the issue it was evident from my datalogging and revo, apr and jabbasport who ask cataloged my car with the shark software that the car wasnt anywhere near is fueling limits but the shark was running way over its boost limits. The boost was my deciding point in the swap. Also it was one piston ans it was the piston ring not the piston. The same issue inherent on the standard engine hence why stock engines are replaced on many cars and pistons upgraded. FWIW my APR stage 3 map ran 1.4 bar boost (turbo rated at 1.8bar).the shark stage 2 requested 2Bar boost (stock turbo Maxed out at 1.6 bar)..... go figure! As for me be being the only bad review! That's not true there were a few of us on this forum and the gti forum with the 1.4TSI, 2.0 TFSI etc. But you will get that with every tuner. No one is perfect That's said i really liked ben. Top guy great customer relations but I felt really let down and voiced my opinion. He didn't cost me any money so i had nothing to gain other than pass on my experiences. Your giving the stereotypical fan boy response of my favourite tuner can do no wrong. I'm not fussed about you recommending shark or knocking apr.I couldn't care less. Im in a mountuned ST now do is irrelevant. I just wanted to point out your post was not factual as you said it was. Me personally I would give RTEC a try. They have been doing amazing things over the last 3 years.
  15. Wow!!That's bending the truth! Factual lol Firstly the reason I changed from Shark is here http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/227293-jabbasport-custom-remap/#entry2673061 and was NOT to do with getting more power. I actually changed to Jabbasport from Shark and nor APR. Next bit of rubbish in your post..... i did not pay a penny into the rebuild apart from the uprated pistons which were my choice to upgrade over stock. All labour was free as was all the servicing. The only reason I chose to pay for those pistons was how could i possibly prove who caused the piston rings to fail? Was it shark running doing their R&D or the high boost? Was it jabbasport doing their R&D? Was it APR doing their stage 3 R&D and the extra power, was it the water meth injection? or was it the flaw that was inherrant in the standard engine? Look back at my buile thread and you'll see i was suffering with excessive white smoke with the shark map so it might have been an issue that was there on the car from the offset.who knows. ..i dont that's for sure hence why i paid.
  16. This is how you avoid a crash at the ring
  17. can't find most of my vids but this one has a few different mallory visits and silverstone. Silverstone later on in that vid had some decent cars in it
  18. Is not the camber. I reckon your toe in/toe out bad changed and that's what's trading your tyres
  19. With power comes heat. Heat equals loss of power so its important to manage it
  20. Originally a Shark Performance stage 2 map with a decat OEM downpipe which made 210Hp iirc. Got rid of that after a altercation with them and went for a Jabbasport custom map with intercooler, intake, and decat dowppipe http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/227293-jabbasport-custom-remap/?hl=%2Bjabbasport#entry2673061 . That made 215Hp iirc. Then went APR stage 3. Had a fair few mods on the Fabia before it went wrong and subsequently got sold. APR Stage 3 Beta test software Loba LO270 turbo VWR (ITG) Intake Pace Products Intercooler Pace Products radiator Miltek downpipe Wossner Pistons Okada Plasma coilpacks Water Methanol Injection Vibratechniks engine mounts H&R front and rear ARB VWR springs TD1.2 Alloys Tarox 6 pot BBK The shame was we couldn't run enough boost to get the potential of the turbo without hitting issues with misfires so in the end it development ended with the above figures around 0.5 bar of boost lower than it should have been. When it worked it was brilliant. Exactly That. Exactly the reason i swapped it for the Focus ST250. But i missed the throwability of a light car, so traded it in for a new one lol Before After
  21. Might be worth chucking some braided lines on as well. Id take brake fade over long brake pedal travel all day long
  22. In my eyes is simple. In order for the fabia to be any good or needs to be modified. When i bought mine in early 2012 it was add a project as i could see potential. Would I have bought it to keep stock. ......absolutely not as it wasnt quick and handled very poorly . The ST on the other hand just does not need a single thing doing to it to be an awesome car. Ill still probably fiddle with it though lol. That said performance of a car is all relative. If you have always had slow or boring cars the vRS would be a revalation but if you have had or tried others that are much better then it's easy to see its flaws.
