  2. Yes it is, just wasn't sure if this was a warranty issue. I'm not saying I won't take it in under warranty but it would cost me more in fuel than some glue, is all.
  3. A couple of days ago the cap of the gearstick (the bit with the gear numbers on) came off in my palm as I lifted my hand up from a gear change. It wasn't loose before, it certainly gave no signs of being loose. What is the best way to stick it back down? Is it OK to just use glue? If so what types? (61 Mk2 Fabia Greenline II)

  5. Was at the dealers today enquiring about a 1.6TDi Mk3 in SE spec, took a brochure home and noticed a couple of options and was just wondering if any of you knowledgeable guys had some ideas. Is the Canton upgrade worth it/compatible with a Bolero? I'm not 100% on the Ilias alloys, so I was just pondering the options. I love the look of the Turini alloys, are they an available option for the SE? If so, any ideas on how much? If not, any ideas on upgrade prices for the Golus or Denom alloys. Thanks guys

  7. Im not sure what the manufacturer mpg figures are for the greenline roomster, I read its somewhere around mid to high 60's? If so thats around 15-20 mpg less than the fabia (manufacturer figures wise), presumably because its more like a small van (higher wind resistance and possibly higher weight) and not a small to mid-sized car. I also read somewhere that the stop/start can account for up to 7-9 mpg. Accounting for that and the extra speed, I dont think youve done too bad. I find mine has the best mpg figures around 1500-2000rpm in 5th at speeds of around 55-65, anything higher and the figures seem to drop as the little engine seems to drink more to keep up, but then I'm quite happy sat at that speed as I dont need to be anywhere in a rush and dont care if trucks overtake me lol To be it just seems that over 65 the speed gains are negligible for the amount of extra fuel used.
  8. I think its all about driving style and conditions. An extreme hypermiler managed to get 1246 miles from a full tank in a greenline ii hatch, so I dont see 800 being out of reach. I know I have had to adjust my driving style to get better mpg. Obviously you cant change the roads you have to drive, urban motorway, etc.
  9. Look, about the small wheels. Google Images 'Fabia Estate' you will see what I mean (or maybe you wont). There are plenty of images of standard fabia's up to the scout and VRS models on there. To me the fabia estate looks much better with the larger style alloys. It makes the car look bigger and stand out. The standard greenline alloys IMO give it that budget, small, Korean city car look. The same can also be said for the greenline's cousins, the polo bluemotion and the ibiza ecomotive. Again this a visual appeal to me, nothing to do with weights/mpg figures/performance/handling/etc, perhaps maybe nothing to do with the wheel size, just the bland generic styling. As its the only slight (very slight) grumble I have with the car, is it worth focusing on that much? I was trying to do a small review on my first impressions, that included the slight grumble . Moving along... Did around 200 miles yesterday, mostly motorway. Got around 70mpg on the way out and around 79mpg on the way back (55-60mph @ 1500-2000 rpm). Very chuffed with that, the cruise control worked a charm and allowed me to keep within 1500-2000 revs. I wouldnt even have got 40mpg in my VRS at those revs/speeds. The car now looks filthy (the price of drafting behind trucks and coaches), but performed above my expectations. I am curious as to what driving techniques that hypermiler did to get 128mpg out of his greenline ii? This week is urban driving so shall see what my averages are for around town driving.

  11. I saw the blurb about how the alloy sizes helped with economy, its just more of a visual thing on my part. It does make me wonder how much of a saving they make over alloys an inch bigger, etc.?
  12. Had it 3 days now, 30 miles on the clock when I picked it up, did a quick 60 mile motorway round trip and some town stuff. Had done my first five miles with showroom finish before a bird with an apparent bad stomach ache decided it didnt like white :(. Bonnet, roof, windscreen, mirror and some of the drivers door (it was that much!!). Apparently thats good luck, but I swear thats just to make people feel better. Its not easy getting used to compared to the 2.0 VRS, but then I wasnt expecting it to be, different horses (literally) and all that. My MPG seemed to be averaging 60 on the motorway and 30-40 around town, even though I have been driving like 70 year old nun and trying some hypermiling techniques on the motorway. Does that sound about right? Maybe Im hitting the rev range all wrong. Im trying to keep it between 1500-2000, but in some gears it almost seem like its a hair breadth away from kicking like a mule and stalling. Theres a small but steep hill by me and its on a junction, so you pretty much have to attack it from standstill, I attempt in first, try to change when it sounds right (again, probably me being used to a more powerful engine) kick into second only for the car to lose power as the revs arent high enough so I have to knock it back down to first. Obviously I need more of a lead foot on hills but I thought the power in these was all low down and the higher revs dont give much to the party? Other than getting used to the revs/gears, and possibly changing my driving style to attain higher mpg, Im chuffed to bits with it and loving every minute. I do miss the leather and gadgets of the VRS though. Also, touch wood, I havent stalled it yet . Its a lovely car to look at (when its clean), I just wish they came with a better/bigger set of alloys. They just look too small and tucked in under the shell for the size of the car. Oh and by dark side, I meant fabias (not really)
  13. Hi all, been a while since Ive been on here, real life stuff, etc. Anyway... I have gone over to the darkside, from a Mk 2 Octy VRS to a brand spanking Fabia Greenline II Estate. Although I loved the VRS, I just couldnt justify the skyrocketing running costs anymore, needed a similar size or slightly smaller car but with much lower running costs, the Greenline II estate was my first choice. TBH, if VW did the Polo Dune/Cross-Polo in Bluemotion form, I would have been seriously tempted, but I digress. Was hoping for a few driving tips/pointers from other greenline drivers who may do some hypermiling. Or just general hints on the car itself. Im also interested in any real world MPG figures people may have. Many Thanks
  14. I seem to be losing brake fluid, Ive gone through a litre since Christmas. The weather has stopped me having a lok til now. The floor has been wet for some time so I cant really identify any patches on the floor. What are good places to look for leaks?, are there any regular culprits? Could it be a symptom of bigger problems? Many thanks for any help
  15. If its not working you get a light on the dash and the ESP button LED itself is permanently on. Pushing the button or trying anything else does not remove it from the dash. My ABS pressure sensor failed but the ABS itself was still working, it was all the traction control, etc that didnt. As put above, push and hold the ESP button, does it go off or on (depending on what it is before you press it)? Try a wheelspin with the ABS light off (on private road of course), if it starts flashing on the dash (not sure if the LED on the button itself flashes) then its working. btw, recon'd unit cost me total £545 removed fixed and fitted.
  16. A few years ago saw Willie Thorne at Fosse Park Asda in Leicester (he is a Leicester lad after all I suppose and has a snooker club there) he had a big BMW 7 series I think, with a personal plate that had 147 PRO in it Only celeb in normal situation. Not one for the celebs sorry
  17. If the stuff was that important to you, you wouldn't be asking the question Saying that though I am one for 'you never know when you might need it', especially cables and wires. I recently cleared out 2 large bin bags of computer cables and still had enough 'keepers' to fill a jumbo size toy box type container But as these don't really have much use other than cluttering, personally I'd keep a couple of the good 'uns and throw the rest.. Perhaps any children who might appreciate them?

  19. Do the FL VRS standard seats still have the oh-such-a-pain-in-the-ar$e-to-keep-clean light grey alcantara? I would have full leather if I could, the alcantara looks nice, but is just so impractical to keep it looking nice
  20. As for the rain in the boot, its something I believe most hatch cars suffer from, I find it easiest just to lift it up enough for the water to run into the gullies, then lift it up the full way.
  21. Doesnt this all depend on them selling the replacements first? In theory if too many peeps learn there is a cheaper alternative and wait, it could be a long time coming.

I remember Leicestershire used to use Mk1 VRS's as undercover and pursuit cars, they were the reason I gained an interest in Skodas, you cant get much of a better recommendation than the emergency services, same reason I got my old Volvo 850. See loads of Octy estate ambulances here, at least every day or so. Im pretty sure the local PD use them too.
  23. Would the repair kit at £129 exc vat plus labour to repair it work out better than the £350 for your unit to be recon'd? Good news for those that are worried or havent had theirs go yet, but still seems like another money maker for Skoda and too little too late to me. I can imagine the SUK boardroom meeting on this. 'Hey you know those duff ABS units? Well OTHER companies are offering repairs saving people from buying them from us!!' 'Hell, we'd better get a piece of that action with our own kit' 'What about the bulk supply of new units we got at a fraction we charge for them?' 'Oh, wait till they're all sold of course!' 'OF COURSE' Bitter? perhaps
  24. It affected a lot of cars across the VAG range as well as BMW and Volvo. Dont let it put you off too much, the Octavia VRS is a cracking car and excellent value for money. I think if you asked most users on here would agree..
