  1. Ok guys and girls where is bobdog? I cannot believe he is not rising to this one! I miss his delightfully rustic posts!!!
  2. Over half a million boxes are being recalled in china and other parts of Asia, and now VAG, after a lot of pressure, have had to admit to a problem in Australia, the differnce being here is that the boxes are made in Germany alongside those for the UK. Friends of mine in the USA say that VWs reputation there is not good and that VAG have had to give a ten year warranty on the DSG box. Sounds like a good reason to buy a DSG car only if under a good waranty.

    Yeti +2

It was a statement made at the Geneva motor show by company chairman Dr Winfried Vahland reported in the press to the effect that they were looking at a seven seat vehicle to go above the yeti, didnt say if it was going to be a developement of the yeti or not.. Also commented that the Roomster would likely be replaced by a compact SUV due to the poor sales of the said Roomster due to its looks and that the next Superbe would be a 'milestone and I dont say that lightley' more than an evolution of the present car. He also hinted that they were considering a VW Caddy type long wheelbase model as a cheaper form of family transport. We shall have to wait and see what appears.
  4. Hi folks just had a problem with our HTP 1.2 in that the rear wiper motor seems to be packing up, sometimes it works slowly ,other times not at all. No longer in warranty so I thought I might have a look see before going to the dealer. Anybody got any ideas on how to get the plastic cover off without breaking it? It seems to be very firmly attached with no clips or screws visible. Would be grateful for any sugestions, 4lb lump hammer not an option at the moment but well!!!
  5. Interesting comment! Shame there is little factual truth in it!!! Most French drivers do insure and test their their cars and certificates are displayed on the windscreen clearly for the police to check and they do everytime you are stopped. There has been no road tax in France for over ten years so no they dont pay road tax! As for carrying a breatherliser kit its costs about 2 euros from any chemist no big deal. If you check for uninsured drivers on the roads I think you will find the UK well in the lead in that department! If you drive in the north west of France near the channel ports be carefull as the British have a bad reputation for taking the p-ss regarding speeding and drink driving. The Gendarmerie are well aware. Be warned.
  6. Shuddering is probably when he passes through the sound barrier!!
  7. Our 2008 model 1.2 HTP has just started the same problem, only one day they work another day they dont. There seems to be no logic as to why this happens its going to the dealer in a couple of weeks for service so I hope they can fix it as the warranty runs out shortly. Be interested if you find a solution.
  8. Can any of you guys out there confirm the correct method of checking the oil level on the 1.2 Htp 3 cylinder 51KW engine? My handbook (in french) states that the 47KW must be done when its warm, but doesnt mention the 51Kw version. Any thoughts folks?
  9. I had a 4X4 Octavia 2.0 TDi, towed a caravan for three years. Excellent tow car but my dealer did warn me that reversing the car with a caravan on the back was the quickest way to wear your DMF especially reversing up hill. After 3 years use, only 30K kilometres, it was beginning to chatter a bit and a bit of judder on reverse. I traded it for another vehicle, the DMF on a 4X4 is dearer than the standard car. I think the problem is the heat caused by slipping the clutch in reverse, something you cannot really avoid in those situations.
  10. No, for some reason they didnt mention the Fabia. Went past my local dealer the other day and there were a lot of new cars on the forcourt, 4 or 5 Yetis, Fabias and a couple of Superbs, lots of Octavias. I imagine if the spec was right you could take instant delivery.
  11. Delay times for France: Roomster 22 wks Yeti 15 wks Yeti TSI 105 24 wks Octavia 23 wks Superb 22 wks Source Autoplus France
  12. There is a guy just written in to a French car magazine, his built in sat nav has just failed in his Clio, its going to cost him 1750 euros to repair, not an uncommon problem apparently. Makes a Tom Tom look attractive!
  13. Nowadays Skoda only galvanise the 'vital' areas of the car, saves money and weight!
  14. If he is offering a tow bar for 750 euros, grab it with both hands, mine for an octavia cost over 1100 euros, six hours labour standard Skoda charge!
  15. Have just completed 14000 Kms (8400 miles) over 3 years, mostly short journeys and the remainder over fairly hilly roads and our long term figure is 39.6 mpg, pretty good really for the type of driving. Its a very sweet little engine, no problems to date so should see me out!!
  16. Look like Apollons, standard 16 inch fit in France on the 4X4
  17. I have only seen one here on the road in France since they came out. They are much more expensive here and my local dealer seems to have several lying about on the forecourt. At the price they are in UK plus available discount , they almost must be sold as a loss leader! Hardly surprising then that they are going to supply their more profitable markets first in left hand drive form.
  18. Here! Here! My very first car, went like a bomb, a small one, stopping it was another story!
  19. OK mine was done in France but the garage replaced the dual mass with a single mass flywheel, I presume under instructions from Skoda France. They told me I should never have the same problem again. I must say the car felt slightly rougher after the change and we sold the car shortly afterwards having lost confidence in it.
  20. I hope not as well, but mine went at 11000KMs, 6600 miles! Was done under warranty and I suspect that it was faulty from new.
