  1. I had an idiot drive reverse into my rear bumper a year or so ago. Got the bumper fixed on insurance. However when i got the car back it had an engine warning light on (something i've been very familiar with on my car). The insurance company sent round a guy with a mobile diagnostic kit. the warning was something silly like a loose wire in rear brake light. He reset it and it went away permanently. Ok my issue is now, i have had another ding and my bumper is slightly out on one side. I want to have a fiddle to try and improve the panel fit but i'm scared of triggering another warning light and having to pay the garage £30 to reset it. Any ideas or am i worrying over nothing.
  2. All done now, easy when you know how!!! as chap called Hauptman gave me some great advice. On my petorl model, the connector to the fuel pump is teh same type. Its located under the back seat behind teh driver. Lift up a falp of carpet and pull the plastic cover off. I had a go with this a few times untill i got a feel for how it works. It is as described, a push up and a squeeze on the tab (the right bit of the tab) and it comes off a sweetr as anything. Like making love to a beutiful woman. techinque and patience!!!!!! My new ancilliary carrier is in and my electric window is working perfectly. Really happy, thanks to all those who helped me on my various threads!
  3. so is it as described by others, the clasp on the left needs to be depressed, but you need to push the hold thing up firts to disengage the clasp then press it in a dn pull downwards. Or since you broke yours do you now know how it works!
  4. Yeah macro mode would be useful. So you think push it vertically at first, then feel for a clasp before releasing it. Do you think its possible it has like an outer sleave that needs to come off. i doubt it as it must be something thats easy for a mechanic to do. Thanks for replying, i've been checking all night and this thread hasn't much interest. I'm so close to taking this to a garage now. One more go i think. Thanks again.
  5. Hi all Please see below the images of the offending conector block. I really can't get the bas#ard un clipped. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also. my electric door mirror no longer works. I have recpnnected the cable to the mirror (top right in image below) but do all the other connections need to be made (to the electric window motor) before the electric mirror can work. Really hope i haven't broken something!
  6. I'm still having trouble with mine- any advice- or pictures?
  7. I'm in the process of replacing my ancillary carrier on the front left of my fabia 1. The last cable connector that needs unplugging is the one to the door lock. Its a right pain and i was wondering if any one has had this problem beforeand has any helpful technique. I have been following the 'Removing the ancillaries carrier' sticky. Any help greatfully recieved.
  8. Thanks for your reply. I take it you had to take off the anciliary carrier to fix this bit of timber?
  9. If thats a joke, not really in the mood. If its not a joke, which i suspect it is, any details?
  10. I'm in a massive pickle, my window regulatore mecahnsim broke last week and i'm waiting for a part. The window has been holding its self up but now it has given way. At 10.00, not very secure. I have gaffer taped it up but i would desperately like to know if there is anyway to secure the window in place over night. I know how to take the trim off. Please help!!
  11. Thanks all. I have ordered the whole kit (runners, wire, regulator) from EurCarParts (~£50) and hope to begin my adventure on Saturday weather permitting. I just have a few remaing questions which i hope to answer before starting. 1) Hauptman- your number guide point 2 talks abotu two rivets for the door card lock mechanism. Are these in fact the three rivets shown in the third picture attached. There seems some debate about these, but do they definetly require removal? kwacka suggests this is bad. Does my first attached image show what the three rivets attach to, and if so do i remove this whole plastic looking item when i have the carrier partially off, or do i leave it be? 2) The third point on your numbered list says 'withdraw teh glass' and 'top and outwards'. Does this simple mean lift it up and tape it securely to the frame? 3) Are the two left and two right rivets as cricled in my second attached photo? 4) this seems obvious but i'll ask anyway, the three motor screws are as circled in light blue? 5) Once its all connected but before i reattach teh glass, can i test the mechanism by running it up and down using the motor or does doing that have any consequences. This links with point 13. Do i move the bottom of each runner by hand or using the motor? In fact, should i disconect the battery for this whole effort or leave it attached. With the answers to the above i feel brave enough to take this job on, just hope it doesn't rain? and i'm not too hung over on saturday morning. Cheers Tim
  12. Thanks. But without pictures i think i'm going to have to try and follow the other guides. Thanks for taking the time though. i couldn't find the part on Eurocarparts. is the follwoing ebay link suitable, thanks in advance. SKODA FABIA WINDOW REGULATOR REPAIR KIT FRONT LEFT on eBay (end time 27-Oct-09 07:18:09 GMT) Cheers Tim
  13. Very ture. Thanks for recommendation, will have a further look see. The question that i;m pondering at teh moment is how to i know how myuch of the window mechanism needs replacing untill i strip the carrier. I will i only find out then? Can you just buy the 'clips' if all else is ok and only the whole regulator if required?
  14. Success, thanks all. A goold old brave yanl was all that was required at the end. I have posted a new thread entitled Electric Window Problem- wire broken? if anyone wantsd to follow my journey! Thanks again.
  15. RE: Removing front door trim. So close yet so far!! This follows on from my previous post with the above title. I now have had the trim off and can see a little of the problem. Do these phot's show a classic regulator failure? if so i undertsnad there is a method of fixing this without removing the carrier. Interestingly the window still does funny things when the button is used, like going up a little way, then the motor sometimes on its own, reverse its self and takes the window down a little. Is this a good sign? Hopefully the three photo's will help someone help me? I'm fairly adament i want to fix myself as i don't want to outlay any more than is necessary. Thanks for any forthcoming help. Regards Tim
  16. sleithykeithy- I have found the screw near the crome door handle (electric window blank) so its not that thats stopping me. is it something to do with the window glass itself? I know about the 'carrier' i hope to un earth and i'm perfectly happy to stop for DIY'ing if it looks too complicated. The window made a horrible srcaty noise then stopped working, it is stuck in teh up position but teh glass canb be pushed up and down by hand! The motor will pull it down awkwardly and up a little awkwardly but then faulters. i'm scared to play with it too much for fear of making it worse, at least untill i have teh dam door trim off! thanks all, stiff confused though.
  17. Thanks for the reply. Its dark now so i will have another go at this in my lunch break tomorrow. So you reckon two screws near the door handle, i'll have a look. Anyone out there have pictures? All the searches i have down points towards the regulator. I took it to a garage and the man there was very helpful and polite but didn't seem to want any business. He said take the cover of and have a look for your self and then come back if its not DIY'able. Seems a strange thing for a mechanic to say but maybe he saw i wasn't a complete DIY idiot (only a partial one) and didn't want to mess about with it. Still odd. I'll try and get the door safely off tomorrow and then see if i can make out whats wrong. Anything in particular to look out for, will it be obvious if it is the regulator? Thanks again.
  18. There is one i have found for the door handle (when you remove the little piece of plastic trim), is there more than one? I have done the door light fitting. How do you do the central locking cable , do you have to reach in a feel your way about? Is it a lift up move, anything to be wary of. Thanks.
  19. Re: DIY Door Sealing Tutorial - Costs less than £10 I have a problem with my front passengers side electric window so i need to take the trim of to have a look at whats wrong. The guide using the reference above is brilliant for the taking the bottom section of trim off but i really can't see how to get the whole piece of trim off. Something is still attached/clipped along the top edge along the glass. I have undown the star screw in the door handle area, but the whole piece just won't come off and i am frightened i might brake something by struggling further. The door lever and maybe the central locking pin thing might still be attached. Any help greatly appreciated. Please!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have done so many searches and your guide is teh best but not complete for my purpose! Cheers Tim

  21. Had a negative experience with this garage. I went when my car called for a service and i believe it was the 40k which is slightly more than the annual 10k service. They offered me their non-dealer service (so not Skoda appproved) but was told it covered all the same points. I can't remember the details now (sorry) but once the service had been carried out i went through the list of what had been done it didn't seem to me to correspond in any way to what they had promised. I think i was basically conned into paying for a decent service but got little more than an oil change. Second big issue was with my aircon. My aircon wasn't working great, but was definetly still working so i paid for a regas. When i got the car back the aircon didn't work at all. No difference in temperature to normal air. It took ages for me to convince the salesman of this. They took the car in once, couldn't fix it, told me i needed to take it to the Kingsheath Allelectric. After a barrage of phone calls i managed to get them to contribute 50:50 to fixing the problem they caused. So the company got more money out of me. Would not recomend this garage to anyone. Maybe the mechanics are good but the salesman was a horrible smarmy man. Kingsheath seemed better, will consider using them next time. Sorry for lack of details, this was in Spring 08.
