  1. Thanks very much for explaining this rotodiesel I am going to try my neatest VW dealer soon. Thanks a lot
  2. And one more question to rotodiesel When i go to VW with the REG and VIN should I pretend I drive that VW? If I mention I drive a skoda would they refuse to sell that part? I guess that is the case but just wanted to confirm.
  3. Thanks Superbia and rotodiesel for the helpful information So as rotodiesel explained I need to find the Reg and VIN of a Passat with the same stuff as mine. I can check with my friends who drive passats. But if theirs are not the model I am looking for is there a better way to find a VIN and Reg of a passat with similar gear? Is there any website that could give me these details? It would be great if anyone could give me any information about this.
  4. I have the same Cruise control problem (Superb 2005 elegence) and suspect it could be the clutch switch. Dealer says it is the clutch switch but they don't have it in stock. Could someone please let me know if this is something I can do myself? And any idea about where I can buy this and the cost? I have tried Euro car parts and they don't have this
  5. Anyone knows the price of the clutch switch for Skoda superb elegance 2005? It would be great if you have the part number as well and where I can buy it
  6. Guys! I thought I fixed it! I got the sealing done a few months back. But just a couple of weeks ago I found out I still have the leak!! I park on a slope so the front of the car is always facing down. When I reversed up the car on to level ground, as it became level I saw water pouring down from behind the glove-box on the passenger side. pouring down! not dripping down. I am taking it back to the guy to fix it. But if any of you experts could help me by giving any clues as to what is happening it would be great! Thanks so much!
  7. I think I should ask my mechanic to do this next time when i do the MOT. Just to make sure i understand, are you recommending removing the rubber 'drain plug' like thing from the drain hole and throw it away? In this case do you mean just push it down about an inch but don't remove the bung? is this right? Thanks
  8. thanks rotodiesel, Is there any simple 'test' you can do to check if the holes are bocked? Like pouring some water over the windscreen and checking if you get two streams of water coming out of hte bottom of the car? Would it work?
  9. Thanks very much for that rotodiesel. Actually it was you who first warned me about this problem shortly after I bought my Superb. And thanks to you I knew what to do when this happened. So I guess I will have to keep an eye on this anyway. I plan to check an clean out the drain holes about once every year. I was wondering if there is any clever way of avoiding the leaves from falling into those holes at all? Like putting in some sort of a mesh that will trap leaves before they can do the damage? Some sort of a nylon mesh barrier under the bonnet around the area just under the wipers? that way the leaves will be trapped there and will have to be cleared out every now and then. Does this sound practical at all?
  10. You are absolutely right dohertyjj! It was the whole that was blocked. As I am hopeless with this sort of stuff I take the safer option and decided to take it to someone who knows their stuff. So I took it o Roger who isn't too far from me. And he did an excellent Job. He cleared the blocked hole under the battery. It was completely blocked according to him. He checked and made sure the seal was OK. I had the seal replaced recently and he thinks the water probably got in before the seal was placed. He cleaned up the wiring. Luckily for me the comfort unit was OK. But there was plenty of water in the foot well which finally dried up. I had a problem with one of my interior lights. And it turned out this had nothing to do with the water though. He said it was something about the contacts close to the bulb itself. After roger has done his magic the light is fine now. So everything is OK for now I guess. But he did say the hole might get blocked every now and then so I should get this checked every now and then! Just one more questions to you experts out there. Now that I have done the sealing properly (Using the new VW seal) Can I be sure that even if the holes get blocked with leaves, The water won't get into the passenger foot well? Or can the blocked water eventually get into the footwell?
  11. Thanks dohertyjj, So you think the seal is fine and it is a blocked drain? I first saw the water dripping when the car was on the ramp but later I did check the front passenger foot well and it was quite wet. The problem is I am hopeless when it comes to this sort of thing so I think it would be safer to pay an experienced person to get this done. I couldn't even figure out how to lift the carpet! All these instructions on this forum simply says 'Life the carpet' as if it is something simple and obvious. But couldn't go any further than lifting the mat and just feeling wet carpet.
  12. Thanks Sidewaze, Yes this was exactly what I was thinking as well. He is a pretty honest guy but I think he lacks the skills for this sort job. So I don't want to take it back to him. Now I am looking for someone who knows about this problem and has fixed it in the past. Hopefully I will find someone soon. Unfortunately I am not good at doing this sort of thing myself.
  13. Someone please help me before my car dies!! does anyone know any machanic around Bucks or London area who could do this job for me?
  14. Hi great to know you got yours sorted. I am guessing Ross is an independent VW specialist. I think I need Ross's services too if he isn't too far from me. I was always worried about this and finally I got the seal replaced by a local mechanic and lo and behold! I now have a puddle in the front passenger foot well. It is possible that he has disturbed something while replacing the seal but I am not sure. I posted about this earlier Could you let me know his contact details please? I am in High High Wycombe so I am hoping isn't too far. Thank you
  15. It is ages but I wanted to update this as this might help someone else. I actually solved the problem simply by replacing the coolant cap. Cost 5 pounds or something. I read somewhere that the seal in the cap wears are after while make the coolant evaporate. Thought it is worth a try as the cost is only 5 pounds. And since then I have never had the problem. Too bad I suspected that the dealer has messed something up while doing the Cam belt change!
  16. I am the next one in turn to have the Water ingress problem. Funny thing is I knew about this and I kept thinking I should get this done but didn't get around to doing it all this time. I finally got the seal replaced by a local mechanic.(just gave him the VW bulletin about the seal - didn't ask him to look at the drain holes or anything - because at that time I didn't suspect there was any leak at all) Just two days later when the car was on the ramp for a an oil change, I noticed water was dripping down just below the passenger foot well. The guy doing the oil change suggested it could be the air con. But when I got home I lifted the carpet and it was quite wet underneath. Just then I remembered that my wife told me one of the rear interior lights stopped working about a month ago. So I am guessing the leak has started long before I put the seal. I was just too late I guess So what should I do now? Should I take it to the same guy again along with the instructions for fixing it ? Or should I take it to a VW specialist? Is it possible that my mechanic may have accidently disturbed something while replacing the seal that the water ingress has become worse? He is an experienced mechanic but not a VW specialist. Would it be safer to take it to some VW specialist this time? Anyone who got this done around High Wycombe? Any recommendations?
  17. I should take back my comment about the sound quality. I found out the 'hissing' only happens when my iphone is connected to the charger. It is probably some sort of interference from the charger. When the charger is removed the sound quality is crisp. I an't see any problem with the sound quality! Now I am listening not only to music but also to podcasts from BBC etc and all sorts of other stuff. finally I can listen to what I want when I want!
  18. I have now finished with Iphone integration ( DIY's Mothed). While this works OK I noticed the sound quality isn't exactly CD quality. There is a slight hissing in the background although it is barely noticable. You can hear the hissing clearly if you increase the volume when the audio track has a silent moment (like between songs) or during a podcast if you turn the volume quite high. This is a bit like FM radio quality. I think this is to be expected as the connection is analogue (not digital) so there will be some noise. Any others noticed this? i just wanted to make sure this is normal and not due to me doing something wrong.
  19. Thanks to DIYs instructions, I am nearly done. But came across an interesting problem. I bought all the stuff suggested by DIY (using the links he provided) . But I just couldn't get my radio removal keys. Ordered it on ebay but thanks to the postal strike God knows when they will arrive. I couldn't wait so packed up all the other connectors and went to Halfords to get the radio out. The guy from halfords did his part without any problems. The radio popped out but guess what? The 10 pin AUX connector simply won't fit! I didn't expect this as I followed the same link that DIY has posted. either the connector on my car is slightly different(unlikely) or the stuff you get from that link is no longer the same stuff DIY got when he ordered. The pin arrangement looked correct. But the shape of the connector was just not right. After some help from my pliers and my metal cutter I finally managed to make the connection. I hard to cut of a small piece of metal from the outer ring of the connector. DIY had to shave off some of the plastic which was not required in my case as the angle of the wire was different in my case. when I carefully compared the picture of the connector DIY has posted, I realized what is posted in ebay is indeed different.. So the good news is it still works. But with what we get from that ebay link today we need to do more than just shaving off some plastic. Just thought posting it would be helpful to others planning to do this. I still haven't made the hole in the glove box and installed it properly. I will do it tomorrow. But now finally I know this is going to work so I am already in celebration mood! Thanks again to DIY! You have done something truly great to mankind! About sound quality, I am no expert, but it sounds perfect to me!
  20. Hi Guys, Mine is a Skoda Superb 2005/05 1.9 PD130 elegance Mine is due for service (43000 miles) and I talked to Hughes Skoda and asked them if they could do this pollen filter housing repair for me. But the guy told me I don't need to do this because must have been done already as my car is quite new. Do you think that can be correct? because from the VW bulletin it looked like they only do it only after the leak happens (when the damage is already done). Not as preventive maintenance. Do you think Skoda has a more proactive approach? Do you think t hey could have done it as part of routine service even though nobody asked for it? Somehow that sounds too good to be true. Can any of you guys confirm or deny this? Is it possible cars from 2005/05 onwards won't have this problem?
  21. Terrific job DIY! Thanks for posting the details! This is great work! How you do like the music quality? Are you getting CD quality?
  22. Thanks for this. I got the 'low coolant' warning light just after I started the car in the morning. It suggests that it has lost it while it was stationary. Mine is a 1.9 TDI. Do you think it may be the same problem (cylinder heads going porous?)
  23. Hi, Mine is a Superb 1.9 Tdi 2005/05 I had my cambelt changed recently at the skoda dealer at dartford. and I seem to have exactly the same problem. It started just a few days after the change The first time there was a lot of visible leak or overflow. Lots of coolant on the drive way. It was a hot summer day I just started the car and the warning light came on. Stopped it and found loads od coolant spilled all over the place. I topped up and thought that was the end of it. But thereafter it was exactly like what you describe - coolant just goes down but you can't see any leak anywhere. At first I thought I didn't close the cap properly. So I made sure I heard the 'click' when it is fully tightened. But this morning I had to top up for the third time since changing the Cambelt about two months ago. I am thinking about buying a new cap to see if that makes any different. But then I saw your post and the fact that this started just after the cambelt change really stuck me! It could still be a coincidence but the fact that it has happened to too people makes me wonder if there's any pattern to this. Please keep updating this with how things go. thanks
  24. I think Both the GW100 and Xcarlink would do the job. They both connect through the CD changer. That doesn't mean you have to keep the phone in the boot. You can pull the satvanDX unit out of the dash and connect it through the CD changer at the back of the unit. They both come with instructions on how to do this. I think they both come with the radio removal keys (But check this with them before you buy) If not you can always buy these keys from Ebay as GBdave has done. I can't tell which one is better as I haven't used either of them yet. The last time I checked (a few days ago) the Xcarlink was cheaper and it also allows you to keep your existing CD changer. GW100 is more expensive and if you want to keep using the CD changer you have to pay more to buy the CD retention unit. And GW100 also has an optional addon that would let you watch TV as well. And if don't like fiddling with these things and would rather get someone else do it for you then then take a look at this. I haven't tried them myself so not sure how good they are though. Good luck with your iphone connection project. Let us know how things go in this thread! I am still saving up for one of those kits. Haven't decided which one yet.
  25. That's great news! I think I will be one of your first customers. I bought my skoda superb from Mortorline Skoda Dartford but as they are so far away I have been looking for a skoda dealer closer to me. I am in High Wycombe. So this is great news for me! Thanks for the information.
