  1. I have an octy mk2 VRS and i've just had a Bluefin re-map done, i had exactly the same dilema and ended up going for the bluefin because its around 150 -170 cheaper than a Revo, Superchips have been around for years and are well known but the main one for me was the bluefin handset and the ability to install/remove the re-map myself whenever i want without the need to take my car to the re-map dealer everytime, also if you have your car in for a service and they install an update on your ECU you remove the re-map before it goes in then re-install when you get it back and the bluefin recognises their has been an update and re-downloads the map for you to send to Superchips and they then send you a new map for no charge. The handset can also be used to immobilise your car, which is an ideal safety feature for if you go on holiday. Oh and by the way it makes the car pull like a train and it has a noticable difference in speed and accelleration
  2. Guys i'm in the middle of fitting a new carbon air intake and pipercorss panel filter, air intake is a breeze but the easiest part i thought would be changing the filter, but i cannot get to it, how on earth do you remove the engine cover to access it? can someone please offer me some quick advice with good detail on how the hell this thing comes off without breaking it. Thanks
  3. Does anyone know where I can get an interior chrome door handle as the chrome coating is coming off one of mine. And what are they like to fit? I also want to know where i can get the grey plastic trim which fits around the stereo/climate etc on a Vrs. Is their anywhere you can get them in the UK without having to pay ridiculous shipping charges? Thanks
  4. I'm having a timing belt changed this weekend and was going to get a new water pump fitted at the same time. There's nothing wrong with my old one but thought i would get a new water pump fitted and have an updated one with metal impellors, I've checked with the skoda dealer and all water pumps supplied by Skoda have plastic impellors. Can anyone advise where you can get the water pump with metal impellors. Would i be wasting my time changing it otherwise???
  5. I have an MP3 stream and i use Nero software to burn my mp3's onto cd. I use it at the standard bit rate and speed it automatically selects and it works absolutely no problems
  6. Done it this morning moved the cd earth pin into the next one along and hey presto perfect sound again from the cd changer
  7. Thanks Timmyboy i think you've hit the nail on the head, and thanks to stu for the in-depth procedure Will try this as soon as i get a minute spare
  8. Guys I have just replaced my stream stereo with a Stream MP3 stereo I purchased off e-bay. The stereo works absolutely fine on radio and the Cd in the stereo, however what i have noticed is the sound quality when i play a cd from the changer in the boot is very poor and when changing cd's it seems a lot noisier. Anyone know why this would be? does the cd changer need reprogramming to work with the new stereo or something?
  9. So is anyone able to advise me what i need to do to connect my ipod/iphone to the stream MP3 and what leads I need. Thanks
  10. If i have a factory fitted cd changer in the boot does this not mean the stream does have AUX in as is this not where the cd changer connects? Also as the newer octavia's have a jack plug fitted for an MP3 player and the MP3 stream radio, does this mean they do not have a CD changer in the boot otherwise if they do how do they have both connected?
  11. Hi all, I have a 55reg 06 VRS. It has a stream stereo fitted but not a stream MP3, I have managed to buy a second hand stream MP3 so I can connect my Ipod/i phone to it via the Aux connetion. I may be wrong here but I dont think you can do this unless you have the MP3 stream, however my stream does have an option in the menu for AUX ON/OFF. If you can connect an ipod on the origional stream then please let me know and I will just sell on the Stream MP3 i bought. My next question is how and where do you connect upto the aux and do i need to buy a special adaptor or something. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
  12. Hi, re-mapping is where you get the ECU of the car fitted with a new mapping system (program) which increases timing, turbo boost etc and gives the car more BHP and Torque and usually slightly increases fuel consumption. No you do not have to get it done but if you want to make your car faster this is the way to do it, but beware your insurance will rise!!!!!!!
  13. Would the skoda dealer not have done this???
  14. I purchased an Octavia VRS "06" on a 55plate from my local Skoda dealer around 8mth ago, i've had a few problems with it including an exhaust warning light on dash coming on, i've also had a new steering rack fitted due to noise and i've had a new rear wiper jet, new rear wheel bearing and both front doors re-aligned due to paint rubbing off in the corners. I also had a problem where the protective stickers which are normally fitted underneath the rear door towards the rear wheel arch weren't fitted so i asked if they could fit them when i bought the car. They did, however the did not fit one of them correctly and water got behind it and it started to lift. So i took it back and decided i just wanted them to remove them as it was more bother than they were worth. When they removed them they also pulled the paint off. Therefore i was now needing a paint job on the rear of the car on 1 side. Now around 6 month later and having this paintwork done twice already I have now discovered for the 3rd time the paint is now cracking again in the same place as the previous 2 times which is inside the rear door where they have had to spray into. Yet again i have informed the garage and i'm awaiting a call back after the salesman has spoken to the owner again. Can anyone advise what may be the cause of this and where I stand regarding this. I love the car but i'm completely fed up with trailing back and fourth to this garage and my car has spent countless days with them over the 8 mth i've had it and i'm just waiting on a daily basis for the next thing to go wrong. Any help advice would be appreciated
  15. when i bought my second hand octavia 2 from the dealer it didn't have these on so i asked them to put them on. They didn't make a good job of sticking them on and the edges started to lift so i took it back and when they went to peel them off the adhesive is that strong on them it pulled the paint off and it then had to go in to be resprayed. So if your gonna attempt to take them off be very careful or you could end up with a hefty re-spray bill. Luckily they took mine off so they also resprayed it free of charge
  16. I bought one of these, absolute doddle to fit however, removed it and sent it back as it did not control my ipod as it said it would. don't waste your money on it
  17. I had this light appear not so long ago, took the car back in under warranty and all they did was a software update and i've never had the fault light appear again
  18. Just to clarify if you have an earlier model around an 06 on a 55 plate you may have the jumbo box but not the mp3 connector in it, this is because the stereo fitted is a "stream" but not an mp3 "stream" therefore is not enabled to play mp3's or does not have an aux connector.
  19. Yes, i'm one of the guys who's posted a similar thread. Mine is exactly the same and i thought their must be something wrong, I also own an 06 on a 55 plate, and mine had 32000 when i bought it, i have taken mine back to the garage and they let me sit in another vrs they had on the forecourt and it was also the same, he said it was a characteristic of the dual mass flywheel they use. hope this helps
  20. Try www.carputer-shop.co.uk they sell an i-pod adaptor for the mk2 and it charges all ipods inluding the new touch, mine was installed in the boot and took around 10 mins. Its made by Grom.
  21. I bought my (PETROL) 55 plate octy mk2 VRs 31000 miles, 2 months ago from a local skoda dealer. I got home yesterday and as i pulled up my oil warning light illuminated orange. I checked my oil level today once engine was cooled and on a level surface and there was the slightest trace of oil at the very tip of the dipstick well below the min level. now i'm concerned over 2 things. first if this would have done any damage to my engine and secondly i've only done 800 miles in 2 months since buying the car, now either the dealer has not checked the oil before handing the car over (which i cannot prove) or the car is using serious amounts of oil. I dont have an oil leak as i would have seen it on my drive as the car sits there most days and doesn't move as i dont use it for work. Anyone have any ideas on what could cause excessive oil usage like this and if lack of oil could damage the DMF as i'e been concerned over the noise produced when pulling away from a standstill in 1st gear. The dealer says its normal as its the design of the DMF, he did start up another VRs he had on the forecourt and this appeared to make the same noise however he did not let me get behind the wheel or drive it to compare.
  22. Well my beloved VRS went into the garage today for the grumbling noise when pulling away from standstll in 1st gear at a certain rev point. the servicemanager sat in the car with me and agreed he could hear the noise but thought this was normal. As it happens they had another 06 VRS on the forecourt for sale so he grabbed the keys and we tried this one, to my suprise it was exactly the same!!!! He said it was just the noise produced by these cars as the new engine has a dual mass flywheel... I havent put this in for repair as i'm now convinced this is a characteristic of this car as they both cant be faulty. Guess i'll just have to live with it but at least for piece of mind i've now proved this is the "norm"
  23. I have a vrs purchased from silbury skoda not long ago and i have a problem that when i pull away from a standstill and let the clutch out to biting point the engine noise seems to become louder and a vibration/knocking can be felt through the pedals, once moving their is no noise vibration or nothing and all is well. Silbury have had it out on a test drive and say they cant find anything wrong. I'ver just picked my car up yesterday after they fitted a new steering rack to remove the creaking noise from the old one. This is very annoying and the car is bugging me everytime i have to pull away, i hope this isn't a sign of the problems mentioned. Anyone can give me any info on this problem would be much appreciated. I've drove another vrs and that was fine when pulling away so i know its not a charecteristic of the car
  24. The steering rack is going in on monday but still no further with the grumbling when pulling away
