  1. He he. You should look further north. Here in Norway the Elegance 1.8TSI DSG has what I call a typical Norwegian price level at £41K!! (NOK 404900)
  2. Very good initiative, Argee! I find your instructions clear, and I believe users will find the illustrations helpful. The french instructions I earlier followed were good, but difficult to use for those not reading french (that includes me :() Users will need to save their icons (34x39 pixels) in RGB, 8 bits pr. channel. Some icons I downloaded and resized had a lower colour depth and was not accepted by the RNS510 POIs inspector v 2.5. I will also advice users to plan ahead and sketch up the desired structure on paper. The program RNS510 POIs inspector v 2.5 has no Edit or Delete features. Not very flexible, but it is free, and it works!
  3. I wish that Skoda/VAG and Siemens VDO would realize that their customers have different needs and individual preferences for showing POIs in their car navigation systems. The navigation system should include a user-friendly function to modify and add POIs to make the navigation suit personal preferences. Users have developed methods for adding POIs, but the procedure asks for more computer knowledge than you will expect from the average car owner. And nobody have yet found a way to make the Columbus give sound warnings when approaching POIs. This is not the functionality level we expect from a mature system. Skoda/VAG and Siemens VDO have still some work to do.
  4. In Norway the versions with manual seats have the storage box under the front passenger seat. Versions with electric seats have not. I would guess the electric seats have less room for storage underneath.
  5. I am late, and I see that you have already given up waiting for answers, but I'll still try to give you some hints how to add your own POIs to the Columbus. I have made a modified DVD thanks to bilouseb at the www.touranpassion.com forum. I first added my POIs with the free rns510.poi.inspector.v2.5, made by rds76 at the VWnavi.com forum, every change saved in the localsave folder made by this program. Then I opened the Columbus DVD image with UltraISO and copied the entire content of the localsave folder into the DVD image folder \tpd\ntcWeu_eu_20070806\. Then I opened the file cdrom.toc in an editor, fx WinVi (not Notepad) and changed the CD volume no. from CD_6317 to CD_ 6315 and saved the changed cdrom.toc to the image. I could now save the new image with my POI files from the rns510.poi.inspector localsave folder and the changed cdrom.toc file to a new DVD image, giving the image the name CD_6315 as in the edited cdrom.toc file. The modified DVD image could now be burned to an empty disc and then installed to the Columbus. I feel that my english vocabulary may be insufficient to give a good description of the procedure. 6. Snow removed, the windows cleared, ready to go home after work. (Picture taken with Nokia N82) I have to admit I let the car stand idling while I make it ready for the road.
  7. The DSG do not make driving on snowcovered roads more difficult. If I drive with a gentle foot on the accellerator, the DSG will try to keep low rpm and not force the wheels to loose their grip. On icy roads, with almost no grip, the auto function may shift gears up and down unwantedly. This can be prevented by using manual, but there is seldom need for this.
  8. My Superb is a 2WD. There are quite a few steep an narrow roads here in Norway too. I decided against a 4WD since each winter brings only a handful of days with problems for my driving, mostly with wet, icy roads when cold weather changes to warmer, giving rain. I would also have to give up the DSG, and I really wanted that!
  9. The wheels are 16". They were supplied by my Skoda retailer, but I can't remember their name. I chose them for use with winter tyres because they are easy to clean. The tyres are Conti Viking Contact 205/55 94T (The winter tyres usually have lower speed code). It is quite common to step down one dimention for the winter wheels compared to the summer wheels. For summer use I chose 17" Trifids with 225/45 Dunlop 94W XL. (17" are standard on Elegance here in Norway, 16" are standard on Comfort(S) and Ambition(SE))
  10. Thanks. I am very satisfied with the car so far. early this morning it was raining, the temperature still -3C, and the car war literally glazed with ice. Not enough time and not enough light for taking pictures. The pictures are taken with a Canon 5D, ISO 100, lens EF 17-40L.
  11. My new Superb 1.8 TSI DSG has now covered 800 km on country roads in wintery Norway. No problems have appeared despite the cold weather (-16 degrees C). Good stability, good comfort, but I am not sure if the heater can keep up with temperatures much lower than -20C. I am delighted with the engine/gearbox combination. The gearshifts are very quick, but still smooth. The torque feels almost like my earlier Mazda 2.0 CR diesel.
