  1. I have had this three or four times over the last 4 years. I think you will find that you have a small stone in the nearside brakes, caught between the disc shield and the disc. The noise is the stone roling round and scratching against the disc. If you stop and go to the wheel you can feel behind the wheel and flex the brake shield and often the stone will fall out. Sometimes just driving will "crush" the stone or flick it back out.
  2. Danny may I ask do the elements in your screen "sparkle" in sunlight?
  3. Having had my second Superb for about two months now I cannot get used to the heated front screen. The problems are that on a grey cloudy day you see a series of stripes about 3mm wide, one grey one clear. The grey stripe is the element in the window, but as I am focusing in the distance the image is blurred, almost like the toughening pattern in some glass screens. When sunlight hits the screen from a side angle then the elements reflect the sunlight. The element in the screen, when you look closely are zigzag top to bottom. Last night was one of the first times to drive the car in the dark, every light coming towards you is "fuzzy" as it is distorted by the zigzag heater elements. Before anyone asks yes i have had my eyes tested! I am keen to hear of other members experiences with this option.
  4. I have a two year old TDI 170 Elegancee with 51,000 miles. Since new, today is the second time that the bulb failed warning light has come on. First it says one bulb, then another, then another, eventually warning that every bulb has a fault. Last time this happened it cured itself after two or three stop starts of the engine. I have checked all light are ok, oddly the indicator flashing is twice as fast, often a sign of a failed bulb. But all indicators are ok. Has this happened to anyone else, and if so was there any long term cure?
  5. I forgot to add that when this happens I am driving slowly at about 10mph in second.
  6. I reported exactly this problem on my TDI170 DSG, sometimes the "drop" into first can snap your neck it is so severe, going into first at about 2000+revs and then immediately changing up to second. This was reported at teh 20k/ one year service, NFF! The DSG box was "firmware upgraded" at the servcie last December. Gearbox is great otherwise, good luck with your dealer. Duplicated in error, sorry.

  8. Thanks for your comments, however I did not get them to drain the tank, they suggested it! My query was what is the capacituy 55 or 60 litres as I could not gewt more that 51 litres in on a fill up even when the MPG was at 5 miles.. It seems odd to have two reserve tanks, one clearly visible on the MPG to go, and another which is inaccessible to all views. Based on your idea of refilling within 10 miles of the fuel warning would "lose" around 20% of the 60 litres, 9 litres plus the mysterious 4 litres, or over 110 miles driving range.
  9. I have just had my first service at 22,000 miles on a 2.0 tdi 170 with DSG. All well except my query on fuel gauge reading, this resulted in Skoda authorising a drain and measure of the diesel when the low fuel light came on, around 9 litres according to the handbook. The dealer measure 9 litres so said no recalibration was needed. I immediately filled the tank to the brim and only got 47 litres in, 47+9=56! Skoda now tell the dealer that even when the tank shows empty on the guage and miles to go is zero there is still around 4 litres left in the tank. The most I have ever been able to fill the tank with is 51 litres and that was with 5 miles to go. I seemed to remember a long while ago talk on this forum of tank sizes, and how Skoda could Have made the tank larger. Any comments or other similar experiences? The average MPG figures are regularly 3-4 mpg over what is actually achieved.
  10. I have tried all angles of the fuel nozzle, and still get a blowback! Has anyone who has had the recall plastic "top hat" removed from the fuel filler system noticed that they can now "brim" the diesle tank without a blow back?
  11. I asked for the Variable Mileage setting for the service indicator. When I go into Service Info, I get results such as 8500 miles 325 days. My milege is curently 12800. I can reset the display, generally to around 9800 and 368 days! The only help the dealer could offer was to say bring it in for service at 17000, because that is about average, after the service they will ensure that I am on the variable mileage service indicator, as now it looks like the strandards 10,000/365 day time and distance. Questions, why should I be able to reset the service indicator OK so the manual says do not reset it yourself, but surely the service indicator resetting is part of the service and done via diagnostics, not some button on the MFD?
  12. Superb 555, What brand of tyres were originally on your Superb ,and what have you replaced them with?
  13. Original fitment on my Superb are Continental 225/40 R18, price quoted this afternoon by my local tyre dealer...Continental £135 inclusive fitted, Michelin £155 inclusive fitted. Dealer said Pirelli, other original fitment as mentioned on this BB, and Continental were both "soft" tyres, good grip but not so good for wear. Michelin, from previous experiences are very good in the wet, better tyre wear, but maybe not quite so soft and grippy.
  14. I have done just under 10,000 miles in my 170 CR DSG and the front tyres are nearing the warning markers, perhaps 2-3mm. I know I am a fairly hard driver, has anyone else had to chenge tyres yet, and if so to what. I fancy Michelins for better wear and hopefully less road roar on rough surfaces. Other 170 CR drivers comments welcome.
  15. I wonder if there is any chance that a milkman, or other early morning delivery person is "knocking" your car, either accidentally or on purpose! This seems more likely as it only happens early morning and I guess at your home, not at the airport!
  16. I have the headlights switch on auto, however during the recent bright sunny weather I have noticed that the lights have been on a lot of the time. This has been mid afternoon in very bright sunlight, not driving in shadows etc. Darker evenings and night time the lights come on as expected. Have other people noticed this or is my light sensor on the windscreen playing up? I did have a replacement windscreen fitted a few weeks ago. The light and rain sensors ar epart of the screen.
  17. I have the Elegance, this has a 12v cigarette style socket, but with a plastic dummy lighter in the front "ash tray", it works well for mobile phone charging. Also socket, with dummy lighter in the rear centre console and socket with cover in the boot.
  18. Mannyo, What improvements are there to the postcode search?
  19. Is that on the MFD, possibly 3-4 mpg over reading, or an actual brim to brim check? Also what was the average speed on counter 2?
  20. This time I got: MFD 41.2 Actual 38.2 Speed 27 mph Maybe the DSG gearbox prefers longer faster runs as in the last fill up.
  21. Latest Fill Up: MFD 42.8 Actual 38.9 Speed 36mph
  22. Jonathan, I have just tested mine, all ok...however when I tried putting the back rest back much farther than I would normally it would not accept the setting,, no bong! I wonder if there is a maximum recline angle beyond which you cannot set the seat memory. Try a very upright back rest position and see if it can then be saved to memory.
  23. To start a comparison thread of mpg achieved... Actual MFD Display Average Speed Total Mileage Engine 40.49 42.7 38mph 4100 miles CR170 DSG
  24. It has happened to me as well, I have filled up about 6 or 7 times and most of those have resulted in a small blow back! Perhaps there is a design fault with the final neck of the tank filler?
