  1. It does do it stationary, but performance, mpg etc are fine. I've even emptied the glovebox to see if it was anything rattling in there but I'm almost certain it's in the engine.
  2. All the gears, it starts at about 1700rpm and it disappers once past 2000 rpm. By on side I mean near side (passenger side), my mistake.
  3. Yeah it was changed 18 months ago and the car barely covers 6k a year. Also the noise comes from the other side of the engine from the belts etc.
  4. Can anyone give me any direction on the cause of a subtle growling/vibrating noise that comes from the on-side of the engine bay (if you're sitting in the drivers seat) on my 2001 Octy 1.9 TDi 90 hp (70,000 miles)? It happens when you drive and the revs are at about 2000 rpm and only around that range. It has been intermitent and has only really happened when the car is warm and it comes and goes although the other day it happened from cold. Any pointers would be muchly appreciated.
  5. The locking on my Octy 1.9 tdi ambiente works fine with the key and remotely but when you use the button on the driver's side to lock all doors (the one with a key motif) they all clunck locked but the passenger side cluncks again and unlocks itself, with the rest of the doors remaining locked. This wouldn't normally be a problem only most cabs round here are the same model and colour so it comes in useful when unwanted people try and hop in the back. Anyone with any ideas about what's up?
  6. The side light (onside) is duller than the other on my 2001 Octy 1.9TDi. This is along with the dreaded noise from the headlight height adjusters. I know that these need replacing but can anyone help with the dull side lights?
  7. Mine went 3 weeks ago after 57k miles on a 2001 Octy :( . I took it to local Skoda dealer and was quoted £178 for one, but was told it's best practice to do them in pairs, I was under the threat of redundancy at the time and only wanted to have one replaced. After 3 days I got a phone call saying the good news was they had fixed the spring, the bad news is that the other one had snapped while on a test drive!. I was told it would now cost £330 (with a discount). I said I'd give them £300, and after a bit of ummming and arrrring they said ok. I don't know if they were taking a lend but I got there in the end! Ps mine looked exactly like yours does in the photo
  8. @ moley. It cranks for a couple of seconds on a morning. You can leave it for 4 hours after and it will start in an instant. I think the smoke is un burned fuel as it's got the same amount of oil as it did since the last service in Sept. I think I will take it to the garage that did the can belt etc to see if they can cast any light on it. Thanks for the advice everyone!
  9. I've just been out and started her up for the first time today, some smoke came out and she cough quite a bit but fired up. Then after switching the engine off after 2 mins of running, i started her back up and she started fine? I a bit worried about her!
  10. My 2001 Octavia 1.9 tdi 90 hp is coughing and spluttering on a cold start and lets out some white smoke. It's done 57k miles, it's got a full service history (not Skoda main dealer though), I had a full cam belt change/aux belt/tensioner change about 3-4k miles ago. It seems ok when the engine is hot, and the perfomance isn't effected and still does 55mpg. Any ideas on what's causing the cough/smoke?
