Sounds very loud to me. Hydraulic valve gear or cam lobes/bearing caps? Difficult to tell on a video.

60k miles. AMD did a fine job as usual. I did have a stage 1 remap at the same time and enjoying the extra oomph 249bhp. All the coil packs died within 3weeks and I replaced them, it’s a common problem following a remap but no problems since. A bonus with the remap is I now see 32mpg on long runs which is up about 3mpg from before the remap, not much but has to be expected with 4wd. Keep a regular check of the cam cover seal at the front above the water pump. If it leaks oil will dribble down the front of the engine and swell the water pump gasket and coolant will appear from under the inlet manifold. Bad news is, to reseal the cam cover is a specialist job as positioning the cam cover and re-sealing the cam chain covers (part of the process) is critical. Pray we don’t have that problem.

Factor in about £800 for changinging the chain kit on E888 engines or live in fear of a broken engine. Of course this may have been done by a previous owner so check for an invoice. They can go with as little as 20000miles. In other respects theE888 engine is fare more refined than earlier TSI versions.

Had the same thing on my car when driving in Europe. Never did find a cure for this and the Sat Nav was a Dynavin HU. I just put up with it. Did wonder later if I put into the local language or or time zone it might have cured the issue. The lights would be ok as they are not controlled by the sat nav and are changed over by the DIS. Have another fiddle.

Excellent thread here. Shame all prospective VAG 2.0 & 1.8 tsi buyers don’t read this forum before buying. I was well aware of the timing chain problem when I bought my Audi A3 with CCZA engine. Drove for 2 years with the fear of the tensioner/chain failure possibility but finally had the whole chain kit fitted a couple of weeks ago. For anyone contemplating having this done, before disaster strikes, it should cost you £800 from a good VAG Indy, had mine done at AMD in West Thurrock and took a day to fit. I can now relax with piece of mind every time I turn the ignition key.

The time came at last for me to retire. 50 years was a fair old wack for me. Went to the BT Tower for for the 50 year service event last November. Was offered 4 months gardening leave by HR so decided to call it a day and leave. More time now for my car projects and track days, although other people in my life have made me busy helping with decorating, plumbing and other diy jobs. Back on track now in 2019 and doing what I want to do, a Pug 205gti to restore.

Very few new 'uns come from a technical background as new starts. When I was doing local interviews, only about 10% of them knew what a Volt or an Ohm is and the management were not concerned at all. Coupled with the annual salary being £6000 less meant we were not recruiting (in my opinion) the right kind of engineer who can work on their own and solve technical problems. I'll be proved right in the end when it all goes 'tits up'. Very few being trained are being trained on UG skills, the company are relying on us old 'uns to repair cable faults and the numbers are rapidly declining as they are retiring early as I will be soon. Too many customers do not have an effective repair on the first visit and I'm often the 4th, 5th and even more, engineer to come along and fix a fault, one visit I made was the 12th over a year before the customers broadband worked at an acceptable speed. I've had my pension for 6 years now and was on the A scheme but took the B scheme pension as it turned out to be more funnily enough. I was actually thinking of calling it a day last week, the performance management scheme has returned in a new guise. I've been clobbered with management spiel and stats about spending too long on jobs. A nice warm sunny spring could see me gone as I've just bought a Pug 205GTI as a project

ADSA oil claims to meet the oil specs for VAG cars but has not been added to the VAG tested and approved list, I still use it though.

Quite obvious what happens here, the dumbass Fiat driver approaches the roundabout on the left to turn right because the queue approaching the roundabout was a lot less shorter in the lefthand lane approach than it was on the right approach. Same thing happens with foreign drivers, they always go round the outside of a roundabout whichever exit they'll be using. Unfortunately I've seen many Foreign lorries take out a car that is using an inside lane of a roundabout in the UK. Never happens in Euroland, it's always just one lane around and one vehicle at a time.

Tg is much better for this. Wish Evans would stop the puking up bit on camera, not pleasant. Besides he seems to be phasing himself out of the lead role now and the programme is much better for it. To be sure of who is responsible for upkeep of the driveway only the deeds held by the Land Registry can help you on that score, downloadable from the LR website but you'll need to know your LR property ref. number. and it costs about £35 last time I used the service. If there is no clear ownership of the driveway then can you all club together for weekend work party? Depends if the other local residents are as keen as you to tidy up area.

I'll nominate my old 1972 Morris Marina 1.8TC. Plenty went wrong with it like bits falling of or just loose, 4 different shades of red paintwork ( I bought it in the dark), Back axle whined and steering was a bit vague. However, it always started and got me to work on time and back then time that was all I was worried about. Cost me £300 and sold the parts for £500 'ish 3 years later.

I'm happy with 75meg. Never used it to it's full potential, just 2 of us on the internet at any one time and stream a film occasionally. Besides I fix broadband issues as a job, work for openwretch.

Ah right, thanks for that Ian. I'll be buying a 50 or 55 screen, I'll keep an eye on the specs. No probs with broadband speed here, have 75megs to play with, i'm only 100metres from the fibre cab.
