  1. Wow!! That does sound a little like a design fault!! I'll have to give that a try and check out all the earths. Is there any "Logical" reason why it would choose to start then decide not too? Surely if the earths are on the way out it wouldn't start?
  2. Yes, I've cleared the codes and checked the battery connections. Wouldn't know where to start with the ECU earth? It's really weird as it started first time this morning!
  3. Could this be relay 409? Anyone had this before? Dan
  4. Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on why my 52 VRS is now decided when it wanted to start. Tonight i've driven home from work (5miles) and parked on the drive. Just gone to go to the gym and the car won't start. It turns over, but won't fire! I've read the codes on my codereader (that I got from eBay) and it's thrown up 11 codes!! 17635 17636 17634 18733 17955 17525 17843 17938 17829 17697 17633 I've checked through them and they mainly seem to be "short to circuit" problems, any one have an idea what could be causing this? Spark Plugs? Coils? If you have any ideas i'd appreciate them!! Dan
  5. Morning all, Time for a bit of a rant i'm afraid.. After having 2 years trouble free motoroing, the car decided to play up (6 days before xmas!) To date, i've had a new oil pump after the drainage got blocked..new cat and 2 new tyres (can't be helped I suppose!) Anyway i've just had a EML come on now with the code - 16396 - Bank 1: Camshaft A (Intake): Advance Setpoint not Reached (Over-Retarded). I've cleared it a few times and it seems to be coming back, I have a few questions - can anybody help? - Is this code related to the cam belt or the cam shaft timing? - What could have caused this / Any idea of a fix? - Is it safe to drive? (Really don't want to chew up the top end of my engine) I've had a search and the possibles are the VVT or the timing has jumped - Any further ideas? Thanks, Dan
  6. That's really not wanted to hear.... Would this be a result from the blocked strainer then I assume? Dan
  7. Evening All, just looking for a bit of advice really. In mid october I had the oil pressure light come on, 500 miles away from home when I was in Devon, I pulled over got towed to a garage who'd done an oil pressure test and replaced the pressure sensor, the problem then went away.... I was out in the car in Bham and it came back on around 15 miles outside Bham, as I got into Bham I noticed as pulling into a car park the car sounded like a Diesel! I was recoverd back to Leicester and its gone into the garage because i'm under Skoda Approved Warranty. They've cleaned the strainer which was full of sludge and then started again, the diesel noise is still there... The question is, am I looking at a chewed up top end? If you have any thought please share! Thanks, Dan
  8. :S Wow, totally lost me there guys!! Interesting read though, as stated above, im probally going run the octy for a few months till im settled, past probation (sp) etc. Then i can be sure i get on with the role, possibly look for something a touch newer.. I'll be certainly taking into account all thats been said in here so far! Dan
  9. Wow, some wealth of experience here! So i need to sort the insurance! I was thinking about having it serviced sooner (due in Jan) then seeing how i go for a bit settling into the job. I was also thinking that the intense milage jump could do more harm than good, but obviously i'd have to keep an eye on the things that are probally going to wear first, as mentioned above. I'm thinking i should probally keep the vRS and see how i go for 6 months or so? Dan
  10. This is fantatsic advice guys cheers! From my understanding its 0.40p per mile i do. The role is a sales consultant role, with HQ in Leeds and myself being based at home in the midlands. So i'd be covering at least a 240 mile round trip every week to leeds. I'm just thinking that they said an average sales consultant covers circa 35k per year, my Octy is at 56 now so in a 2 years its going be 110k ish, its in pretty good nick and id rather not ruin it! Dan
  11. Yayy!! After 3 long months since graduating i've finally got a job as a Graduate Sales Consulant, (Which I Really Wanted!) Yes!! But i've accpeted the job etc and they have a policy to use your own car but get an allowance as expenses per mile.. I currently drive the VRS below, but im scared of damaging or blowing it up and i am thinking of getting a newer diesel. How does this work? Could i take it out on PCP for instance using the expenses to pay?? Is anyone else in this situation? Dan
  12. I got 42.8mpg (Trip Comp) from Leicester To Wakefield And Back.. Good Times, although i was driving like a granny, it was nice to enjoy the M1 for a change.. not... Dan
  13. Koolio, I'll keep my eyes on it then! Thanks for the heads up!! Dan
  14. Ah.... I'm going wait till im convinced its the wheel bearing then!!!
  15. how much am i looking to pay for a Skoda Dealer to fix a wheel bearing then? any clues guys? Thanks Dan
