  1. I have the Pure/Alpine add-on, and when that was installed, the existing FM aerial was simply replaced (ok with the assiated wiring) with a dual DAB/FB aerial. Not sure if it was an Alpine one - I think it isn't. This was an improvement IMHO as the aerial is completely removeable for going through the car-wash!
  2. I'm getting an Alpine 117Ri headunit fitted (Dec 08 Octavia just pre-facelift), and one of the reasons why was that the Alpine site shows it as being compatibile with the vehicle displays. I've got Maxidot, and and Stream MP3, and can see the radio station on the Maxidot - so that works. (Not sure why, doesn't really add anything!). What I hope is that I can use the Maxidot to go through the iPod menus, but the dealer says that Alpine say it will only work if the Octavia has an OEM Sat Nav. The installer said it MIGHT work..... Oddly, it would work on a Roomster/Fabia but only if it replaced an OEM radio and not the satnave. Does anyone have any experience of whether it will or won't work on my car?
  3. Not sure if it's Mk1 or Mk2 (I bought it Dec 2008 pre the ?facelift and the blade is a bendy all-in-one type - not the cantilevered sort. The jets are too deeply hidden to get at simply with a pin. I'll try some gentle prising off tomorrow! Update - ok so the cover comes of really easily. With the blade at rest, pull the sides apart above and below. There's a hook pivoting to the R. then the two-hole nozzle is just sitting there. I can't see if the jets can be adjusted, but sticking a pin in and trying does make a difference albeit hard to get the spray patterns 'just right'.
  4. Bowders1 - a quick add on question. You say 'under the plastic arm cover'... I need to adjust the spray angle of my water jets. To remove the cover, is it just a question of (gently) prising it off? Or, is there some other way such as removing screws/nuts? TIA Ian
  5. Sorted. I disconnected the battery & re-connected. The MFD has reset all the settings, but it has at least got me back to normal... As for how it looks - well, it doesn't look as good as the stream - ie it's black as opposed to dark grey. Also the Green illumination of the 6 main buttons isn't very green - more bluey/green. The other buttons are fine, and go well with the Skoda green elsewhere. Sound? To be honest it's not as great a step forward as I had hoped. Also - the speakers tend to favour the front seats, and I want the sound a bit further back. Using the front/rear fader just sounds worse. The BIG plus is the full iPod implementation. I have this runngin to the cubby hole by the drivers right knee.
  6. I've just had an Alpine head unit (CDA-105Ri) installed (in my Ocvatia 2) with an iPod lead running into the glove compartment. All was fine as I drove home, until out of interest I switched the dashboard MFD screen to the 'Audio' setting to see what it did (if anything) in the way of communicating to/from the Alpine unit. WRONG! After holding the button for 2 secs, then clicking down to select Audio, the display read 'Alpine'. This is where it used to (with the factory fit Stream) just display the station name. It is now stuck on this, and I can't get back to the usual MFD display. Pressing & holding the buttons does nothing. I've switched everything off, left the car for an hour locked all to no avail. OK I will go back to the installer next week, but as they will probably be as mystified I thought I'd ask here if anyone had met this before to help speed the resolution! TIA.
  7. I've seen it mentioned in the Jetta brochure for a month or two. What would be ideal is if the DAB unit could just slot into the 'rack' in the Octavia's boot and wire into the existing head unit (with new aerial).... L
  8. Hello all.... I've just bought an Octavia Elegance with the Stream MP3 head unit. I've seen the blurb for the Dension iPod controller, and looks good. I can control the iPod through the MFSW/Maxi dot screen. However, I also want DAB (for BBC7 mostly!) and my concern is that getting a JVC/Pioneer etc head unit would mean I couldn't use the MFSW at all. So my next thought was - could I fit a VW head unit RCD310/510 and have a VW DAB unit installed? Then would the Dension work with all that? Or - am I missing an easier way to have the iPod control, DAB reception all work with the MFSW??? Thanks....
