  1. Bought new 1.2 tsi 105 a couple of months ago. Have read how sweet the 1.2 engine is. Not sure that ours is yet, but of course it's only got 600 miles on the clock. Have to think carefully about overtaking as am not sure how it'll respond. Find myself having to shift down to 1st too frequently! No Fabia we've had before has demanded dropping to 1st when turning from the main road onto the hill which leads to our house. 2nd was always fine, and in our previous 1.6 Fabia 3rd was OK too. Similar issues turning onto other hills in 2nd. After the turn have to drop to 1st, just will not pull at all in 2nd. We may have been spoilt by the 1.6, and certainly were by the power of our other Fabia, the VRS (but of course). We'll give it time to loosen up but this is something not encountered before. Maybe I should try 98 RON (although the whole point of the 1.2 was to reduce the lakes of 98 RON the VRS drank.) Anyone else encountered anything similar?
  2. Yeah. I've just opted out of Fabias after owning five (I think). Got an Audi A1 Sportback Sport. Very nice but gotta say I miss some of the Fabia touches, like masses of storage - the A1 has very little. And silly little things like the parking ticket holder on the windscreen. Oh, and, big thing, no spare wheel. Grrrrr. Just a tube of goo. But the A1 drives well and does have a lot of toys. Still getting used to the Stop-Start. Still, my wife's getting a new Fabia this week. 1.2 tsi Elegance. Hope it's as good as the 1.6 Fabia she's trading in.
  3. Ordered ours mid-August just been told build week 50. Was given delivery date mid November. Past experience suggests that just because we've been given a build date doesn't mean this will be stuck to. Our last Fabia (a 10 reg VRS) took around nine months from order to delivery with many excuses offered along the way for the delay. So, although we've ordered another Fabia (1.2 Elegance spec with extras), we're trading our VRS in for a new Audi A1 Sportback Sport. Will be interesting to see how Audi's delivery times are.
  4. I posted a while back about a way-below PX valuation I'd had for my 2010 1.6 Fabia (£4500) when expected PX would be at least £5500 if not £6000. We're also changing our 2010 (Dec) VRS. For an R-line Polo 1.2 TSI 105PS. Expected PX was £9300, in fact I've been quoted £10700. Very unexpected. Just goes to show that PX valuations depend on so many things I guess. Incidentally, when I went elsewhere for a PX on my 1.6 2010 Fabia I got a deal which was £800 better. And I'm changing the VRS because though it is a pocket rocket the auto box just takes the edge of the enjoyment with the hesitation when moving from a standstill. If it had been manual I'd've kept it.
  5. This was from Simpsons in Colne, Lancs. Normally get an OK deal from them, but not this time. Have emailed the MD as it's a family firm we've dealt with for around 16 years now so wondered what he thinks. Have begun looking elsewhere and already have been offered a better price for the new Fabia. Will drive down to see them and find out if they can offer a better PX than Simpsons. (Couldn't be worse, could it?) Even if they offered the same px value I'd be £500 better off because of the better new price. But if they did offer the same px I wouldn't accept the deal. Prob just keep the 1.6 Fabia for a while longer yet.
  6. Just been offered what seemed to be a good deal on a new Fabia Elegance 1.2 TSI Elegance. £12,500 inc £600 of options. Plus 0% credit deal. But, px price quoted on our very good condition, 29000 miles 2010 reg Fabia 1.6 Elegance was only £4500! This is way below both the What Car value and Glass's. We didn't accept the deal because the px was a nonsense. What do others think?
  7. Was out driving our 10 reg Fabia behind a bus. Thought Hell, that's a rough-sounding bus. Then, when the bus turned off, realised that it wasn't the bus, it was our Fabia. Suddenly sounded like a really old, rough bus or lorry. Carried on driving carefully and the noise vanished. Parked up where we were going. When we came back to set off again the noise was still there but nothing like as bad. So, can't remember why, turned the air-con off completely. And magic. No noise all the way home. In fact, the car has never been as quiet. Like new. So, talked to out local Skoda garage who said it must be your air-con compressor. Which is being replaced later this week. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
  8. So agree with you here. And I'm speaking as one of the minority DSG owners with a hesitation problem whether I'm driving it or my wife is. If some DSG units have this and others don't then there is an issue that needs addressing. Because, yes, when it's working it's good, but when it's not, when it hesitates, it's frankly dangerous! Has anyone had the issue recognised by their dealer and sorted by them? And, in passing, I notice the Honest John review notes the hesitation also. Honest John
  9. Yep. That describes it exactly. Doesn't do it every time but have to expect it and wait for larger gap to pull into - which on busy roads is, of course, a nightmare. Just had mine back from its first service. Mentioned it to the dealer who checked and said they couldn't reproduce it, but don't think he road tested it. And they didn't seem aware that some VRS's experience this issue. They said they check with Skoda. I said I'd be back and take them out for a drive so that they could experience it.
  10. That happened on one of my previous Fabias. The local Skoda garage sorted it quickly.
  11. I've bought short aerials from Ebay because our Fabias' aerials caught on the garage door also.
  12. Now got c.2K on my 60 plate VRS. Still hesitates when pulling away. But unpredictable. Got to assume it might hesitate and so have to be very sure before I commit. Embarrassing when someone flashes to let you cross in front of them and you put your foot down and nothing happens for maybe 1 or 2 seconds. Think I'll get it checked as it seems some of us experience this and others don't.
  13. Yeah. That's the drag with the VRS or rather the auto box. What did you think of your Abarth 500?
  14. Having ordered a Fabia vRS early in August 2010 I finally took delivery yesterday. Initial impressions? I think I like my other Fabia - a Fabia 3 / Elegance 105 bhp On the vrs the delay caused by the dsg box when pulling away at junctions is a big drag. My Fabia 3 105 is much more sporty when pulling away and is only a little slower to 70 into the bargain, Full auto and semi-auto are OK but full auto isn't really as smooth as I would like. Sport mode does what it says on the tin.. Lack of front fogs is scandalous. Live up in the Pennines as I do then fogs are really useful over much of the year. That fogs can't easily be retro-fitted is pathetic. Lack of rear interior light is just penny pinching - can't see a thing in the rear at night. Hopeless. Lack of mats as standard again is penny pinching. If I'm paying anything up to £17k for a car I expect more than this. Glad I was able to transfer my old mats from my trade-in Fabia. Have had the gsm2 system fitted but strangely it is not yet working with my iphone - it can't find it. I know there are issues here but thought the system did work now with iphone? Lack of cable for the media system also penny pinching. My local garage were very uncertain whether in fact iphone did work with Skoda's GSM2. Maybe there'll be a new VRS going begging soon!! :-(
  15. I've been waiting 23 weeks for mine now. Am still getting the "stuck at the docks" line from the dealer - when he eventually phones me. Because we got very annoyed with this continuing wait we told our dealer we wanted to cancel the order and could we speak to the boss guy at the dealership - which long-established family firm we've been dealing with for around 15 years now with usually good service. At the end they offered us a new deal which includes the payment of VAT. So achieved a reduction from c.£17000 to c.14000 which is OK although I think maybe we should have just cancelled the order and looked at other makes for a change. Still wondering. . . . . . . Disappointed at Skoda's handling of delivery this time.
  16. Heated seats. Have had them on every Skoda we've had and are now on our fifth . . . . . . They've been very welcome this winter!
  17. Usually get good deal from my dealer and thought I had this time, but less sure now. Still waiting for my VRS to arrive. Dealer keeps telling me the car is in the UK but stuck at the docks. And now, today, wanted me to pay for it before it arrived at the dealer. I declined to do so saying I'd pay when it had arrived at the dealership. Dealer wasn't happy and is now trying to get me to tax it before it arrives . . . . . All to do with the VAT increase in 2011. Still not sure I'll agree to this as have been waiting since August and see no reason why suddenly the dealer should be trying to rush this through before the car even arrives. When he has the car I'll pay the price we agreed. Not my fault that Skoda can't get their act together. Skoda - manufacturer of happy drivers? Well, this VRS will be my fifth Skoda but may be my last. Or perhaps just need to find different dealer. Update: dealer has made the deal much more attractive and is anticipating car may arrive in week 52 . . . . . . or not I guess.
  18. Just out of interest, what did you think of the Volvo c30? I considered one myself before ordering my latest Fabia.
  19. Mmmm. I get a similar clonking at the rear of my Fabia when driving over speed humps. Must check the boot space for loose items although don't think there is anything but will re-check.
  20. VRS ordered August. Told "stuck at the docks" . . . . . . . . . . Of course, this may or may not be true. Was also told by dealer, "Will phone you Monday let you know what's happening." And, guess what, was not phoned Monday so don't know what's happening. Have been a little surprised by Skoda / dealer here as previously have been OK (mostly) but with this order have seemed a little, errr, detached. Less forthcoming. More me having to chase them than them keeping me up-to-date.
