  1. Cheers, xman! It's booked in tomorrow morning for investigation, but as the dealers are 40mi away, I'm happier that it isn't anything likely to be a problem on the journey there. I'll check the car again later to make sure it's not in limp mode.
  2. Long time since I have been here :D My Superb's CEL came on on Saturday morning. Oddly, it wasn't when I first switched it on, but after a quick trip to the shops. No bings or bongs or other alerts. Sticking the OBDII reader on the car comes up with generic code P26F8, which looking up with Google tells me nothing. Any ideas what the code means? TIA!
  3. I'm kind of equidistant from Vindis in Cambridge, Wings in Peterborough and Progress in Bedford. It takes roughly the same time to get to each anyway. I bought my first Superb from Progress Bedford and have been going back there ever since. No other reason, really.
  4. Some pictures of my new Sportline TDi 190 DSG in Quartz Grey, fresh from driving back from the dealers. Apologies for the slightly messy drive and number plate crayoning... :)
  5. Sportline Estate 190 DSG in Quartz Grey with: - heated front seats - phonebox - electric tailgate It was an ex-stock car, so I would have had Park Assist if I'd ordered one, but I'll have to make do with the rear sensors. This is my third Superb, and those with extremely long memories might recall me lurking about here in days of yore with an old school Mk 1 Octavia L&K. Loving the car so far (all 50 miles or so). Now need to get it on winters, although the standard 19" Pirellis seemed to do a passable job on frozen supermarket car parks this morning. I'll post some pictures in the pics thread in a bit.
  6. Good point - check the servicing bill. Anything less than £50-60 then it wasn't longlife oil that was used and even if you switched it back to variable it would come up with the service light sooner than the 30k. Mine has come on just about every 30k on the button (next one due in a couple of months).
  7. On what basis? VAG did a huge amount of research with the oil companies who provide the longlife oils. If you are doing the sort of miles where you benefit from longlife servicing, you are likely to be getting the car fully warm, rather than short journeys. As long as the brakes, tyres etc. are being checked on a regular basis, longlife is definitely a cheaper way to go for higher mileage cars. £60 per fill for the oil is a bit steep, but its bloody good oil!
  8. Great news, Dave. Hope it all goes well.
  9. I have something similar - worse when the car is warm - and the dealers can't find what it is. I'm trying somewhere else in the new year to see if they can find it.
  10. And while you're in there (replacing the wiper motor), I'd strongly advise giving the wiper linkage a good lube. Pop the circlips off the top of the spindles, knock them out through the bottom of the housing and then a good dab of grease (I use copperslip). Those things seize sooooooooo easily.
  11. I don't fit into 1-4, but my '02 Octy L&K TDi is fast approaching 90k, and aside from a turbo swap at 60k and dumping its oil twice its been relatively trouble-free motoring
  12. Easiest way I have found is to start at the middle, where the two panels overlap, and get sonething thin and blunt in between the two. Once you can get it lifted enough, get a finger or two in there (cue misquote engine) and then gently ease the panel up towards the side of the car. Mine's been off a few times now, so it comes off quite easily. Just take your time. Whatever you do, don't start at the otside of the car like I did the first time Have a look on Butt's web site for the part - www.jmbuttco.co.uk I think. The motor and wiper assembly are both listed on there, which should give you the part number. Cheers,
  13. IIRC, the vRS can go up to 20k between variable services. If you've been topping up with a recommended oil and don't do a lot of short journeys you should be able to get quite close.
