  1. I am about to collect my Skoda Karoq, and from initial enquiries, it looks like I'll be able to use the Alutec winter wheels I had for my Skoda Yeti. The offset of these is ET48, and the Pitch Circle Diameter is the same as the Karoq wheel. Does anyone have an accurate figure for the offset of the Karoq Ratikon 17 inch wheel? Local dealer does not know - rumour has it that it's ET43, but it would be nice to have that confirmed.
  2. Hi, Late addition to this post. My Yeti (61 plate, 45K miles) has started having similar problems. At first Driver and OS passenger door would not lock. Recovered itself. Then locked the drivers side deadlocks so couldn't get it. Had a conversation with technician at Telford Skoda - wiring loom is at fault. Apparently some of the looms were not quite long enough, they chafe on the door openings, and then the mechanism becomes unuseable. I can still unlock drivers door with a key, but cannot lock it. Remedy is a new loom at £Daft plus ££Daft fitting and....you guessed it...out of warranty by 4 months!
  3. Obvious answer I suppose, but I've tried snow socks and they don't last long before being trashed. Want a longer term solution.
  4. Hi All, Does anyone know if these can be fitted to a Yeti with 215/60 x 16s ? I know that normally Ytetis need to fit 205/55s for chains. but these have no chain on the inside of the wheel; it's either on the tread or outside. Anyone have any experience of these? Alternative - Michelin have what appears to be a rubber mesh alternative, tesnioned by Nylon straps on the outside. I'm looking for a "Get me off this slippery bit" rather than chains I'm going to use for miles. Smick

    winter tyres

Well, the same wheels fit my Yeti - well both the first and the second - with 215/60 x 16, 6.5J, ET50 offset. No problems with fouling, brake dics or anything else. BUT you need to make sure (in my opinion) that your insurers know that the wheel is slightly less width. Given that the lower powered Yetis run on 6.5, can't see it as being an issue. My Octavia wheels came off an L & K 1.9 litre.

    winter tyres

Just love how topics get hijacked into something which then gets three miles away from the original post! And the number of handbags that people have.... I've posted so much about tyres that I'm not going through it al again apart from re-iterating that for me, 16" work better than 17" for ride quality. For what it's worth I have a set of unused VW/Skoda 16" x 7" steels that I was going to fit last winter, but as the alloys from my last Scout fit fine on the Yeti, with the Vredestein winters I have, I'm going to sling the steels on to the market shortly at about £80 the set. Anyone interested - just a little matter of coming to the Lake District to collect them ?
  7. Weird or what ? Here's a bizarre account of connecting a Galaxy S2 to my Columbus with Bluetooth. I had previously asked on here about whether there was a glitch, as this phone had worked fine with the Columbus in my 2009 Yeti, but would not connect via Bluetooth at all. Got no answers that made sense to an Old Git Like Me. Went back to Square One - cleared both phone and Columbus back to factory settings. Updated firmware in phone via internet. Tried to connect via Bluetooth - would connect manually, but would not download phone book or connect to media. Cleared profile, started again with phone. Got to a Stage where it said the phone was paired, but would only connect if you tapped the "BT Skoda" line on the Bluetooth section of the phone. So each time I got in the car, the display would show "Connecting to GT19100..." and when I tapped the BT Skoda symbol it would connect, download the phone book, show the priority numbers, and could be used Hands Free. Thought it was a bit of a Pain in the A*** to go through this process, but Hey - at least it worked Hands Free, and I thought I could live with it till I went off to moan at Telfords again. After a week of doing this.....suddenly, it starts connecting automatically when I get in the car. No audible tone to show it's connected - it just does it. I'm not doing anything with the phone, have not changed any other settings in that section. So has it "learnt" that it can connect, or is it Black Magic ?
  8. Hi All, Have tried all the suggestions and can't get it to upload phone book, and now media player won't load either. I'm running Gingerbread 2.3.5, but I'm convinced that the problem is with the Columbus Bluetooth unit. The old Yeti's Bluetooth paired faultlessly, this one won't. have approached dealer to see if Skoda UK can offer a solution.
  9. Thanks guys, I'll try these tips in the morning when my brain is awake again!
  10. Is there anyone out there, who has successfully paired their Galaxy 2 with the Columbus navigation, AND been able to upload the phone book ? I ask because my previous Yeti (Sept 2009) had Columbus and paired faultlessly - this one (Nov 2011) cannot for some reason upload the phone book which is a real pain in the nether regions. I've tried restoring factory settings with no success. Anyone got any magic tips to sort it ? I assume that it must be the Columbus as the phone profile hasn't changed to my knowledge. Grateful for any ideas. Smick
  11. I've posted before on this subject. As the OP says, we all have an opinion about what is the best wheel/tyre combination. I personally don't see an issue with changing wheels & tyres, so long as the chosen combination is commensurate with the specs laid down as Skoda options. Hence my decision to go with 215/60 x 16s Alutec Spike wheels, with Vredestein Extremes in winter (Nov - March), and Sportrac 3s in summer. (That combination was considerably cheaper than buying new Skoda wheels.) The Annapurnas have been put away carefully in the shed, covered with black tarpaulin so the P Zeros don't rot, and will be all nice, bright & shiny for when I trade it in. The Vredesteins, both varieties, are rated at 99H, and I don't see that I'm likely to need the W rating for a speed of 150mph in any circumstance. In fact, half of that would probably suit me! In my mind, the really important aspect is to ensure that your insurers approve the combination - Aviva asked for no extra premium, but wanted to know the value of the wheels and if they complied with Skoda specs. Your choice, methinks.
  12. My Yeti 4 x 4 140 rides on 16 inch wheels winter and summer, with 215/60 tyres: Vredestein Wntrac Extremes in winter, Vredestein Sportracs in summer. The ride is a definite improvement, handling diminished a touch in summer, but better in winter & wet when the water shifting ability of the Wintracs gives them an edge over even the P Zeros. The Sportracs were a compromise. As a search dog handler, I wanted something with a fair bit of savage tread to get grip on forest tracks / mud etc; intially, there was a lot more road noise, but as they have worn a couple of mm, that has improved a lot. I bought a set of Alutech Spikes to fit summer tyres on, and these have been fine. Cheaper than Skoda alloys at £90 each, and approved by my insurance company with no problem. Best of all, the tyre life over the P Zeros has been a vast improvement. You pay for the grip in the Pirellis by the quick tyre wear, and at £140+ per tyre, I'd rather be running on the Sportracs which were less than £100. In fact, I bought the Sportracs and wheels for £50 less than 4 P Zeros. I sympathise in a way with the previous poster about tyre threads, because they are nearly always about opinions rather than facts !

    Wiper Problem

Well, there's a smattering of doom & gloom. Just as well it's under warranty for a bit longer - but disappointing,as my previous Skoads ( 2 Octavias) have been pretty reliable, and this is the third fault in two years.

    Wiper Problem

Yes, I've tried that as well on the advice of a neighbour, who's had a similar problem with a VW. Also checked the fuseboard under the bonnet.

    Wiper Problem

Hi All, Today, my wipers have suddenly decided that they don't want to work. Absolutely zilch, which on a day when there is intermittent rain , is a pain in the bumper. No amount of switching on off, change of controls, checking of fuses and relays for obvious damage etc. sorts it. Set off to destination - after 10 minutes, wipers come on with no switching. (No, it's not set on Automatic) They sweep twice, then stop. After about 2 minutes, they sweep three times and then stop. The manual control (i.e down from the rest position) then works, nothing else does. The washer works but with no wipe. Anybody got any ideas ? And why do they always come up with problems on a bank holiday weekend !!!! All suggestions gratefully received. Smick
