  1. Problem solved; took starter off and found bendix gear had sheared. Checked flywheel teeth and found to be ok. Bought new starter and fitted............problem solved. Thanks again to all who replied especially Ken, Auldbuff
  2. Thanks to all for your replies, much appreciated. The car is a Fabia Comfort 2002 1.4 16v. engine.I went up to my daughters house an hour ago and tried starting the car a few times (same noise) then the last time the engine fired up and I engaged 1st gear and drove a few feet then reversed....no noise!. I thought it sems to have been the starter.I tried it again and the starter just whined and didn't engage so I thought well I will come back tommorrow and take out the starter. I phone my daughter at her work, to tell her and she said that's fine.....oh Dad, I forgot to mention a yellow light with Ecu was on for a couple of days!!!!!
  3. :eek:My daughter started her Fabia 1.4 (petrol) yesterday and there was a noise like an over-run starter motor coming from the engine. She then dipped the clutch and the noise intensified with her selecting first gear. I tried it this morning and it actually sounds like a bag of 'nuts and bolts' coupled with the engine whine, when you try to move forward!! Any help or suggestions? regards
  4. Thanks for your help guys. After my daughters wedding I may get the car from her to have a look, cheers!!
  5. Hi, Leesman, 'equal luminesence ? Haven't heard that term before.Interestingly enough I am sure when she left our house the other night with side lights on the brake lights seemed to work fine.I just caught site of the car going round the corner so I thought they were working. When she came today without side lights they reverted back to one side bright one dull! Any ideas? Auldbuff
  6. Being a 62 'grumpy' old man with average PC skills I could't navigate how to introduce myself although I have used the site before. I live in Dundee and 'maintain' my daughters Fabia 1.4. I find the site very good to use with good feedback.People are very friendly and helpfull. So like the old 1960's advert 'your never alone with a Strand'...you are never alone in Briskoda land!!
  7. There is a brake light problem on my daughters 2002 Fabia 1.4. When you activate the brakes the passenger side brake light is not as bright as the drivers side. The problem has just occurred and the original bulbs are fitted, none have blown. I have re-checked the bulbs and also changed them but the problem still exists. I have checked all the wiring at the bulbs....checked for slack earth etc.but still the problem persists. Any ideas? Idris
  8. Thanks to all replies. Bought a self bleeder kit, bled system, brakes now working fine. Possibly got some air in to the system although I don't know how pedal was hard as air would make it spongy (as some of you guys said!). Cheers again
  9. As I've fitted brake pads on numerous cars over the years I decided to replace the front pads on daughters Fabia 1.4mpi. Removed the old pads, slackened nipple to push in piston for new pads, closed nipple.(on both sides). Checked brakes whilst car was stationary and pedal was good. Took car for a test drive and although pedal was hard it hardly stopped the car....scary..... Do you think a full bleed would be the answer? regards Auldbuff
  10. Thanks for the reply......the car was running fine before he removed the injectors.I will get a set of seals today, cheers
  11. my son in law removed the injector rail on my daughter fabia thinking it was the spark plugs! He assured me he replaced it back straight away tightening the plastic rail down properly. He came across to my house and said it was sort of misfiring and making an 'air' type noise.I removed the Skoda top cover and noticed there was a blow back on number 3 injector.I removed them, cleaned them but still running a bit rough. Any suggestions? Auldbuff
