  1. I took the glovebox off in the end, but even then I found it a struggle to get all the wires in, the Kenwood stereo I have, has like 4 RCA connectors, a couple of big DIN ones and another, getting it in was still a squeeze, but its in there, just. Jon
  2. Looks like the ideal place, thanks for the pic as well Regards Jon
  3. well I took the whole thing off in the end, my god, 2 hours per bolt, went at it with a drill, hacksaw, centrepunch, screwdriver, hammer, chisel, thats one job I never want to do again. Jon
  4. I dont have a multi changer in my car so not sure where that is usually situated? Jon
  5. Cheers mate, yeah I did see that bolt, ideal point, but i was told that the earth lead needs to be short as possible, like less than 10" or something, with the amp on the back seat it would be longer than that. But might see if I can move the amp nearer that light cluster? And yeah can see what your saying about screws going into someones back. Cheers Jon
  6. Ah nice one, will pull the boot apart tomorrow looking for that then Thanks mate Jon
  7. Ideal thanks mate, I am installing it tomorrow, just need to find a good earth point now and think I am all sorted Thanks for the advice Jon
  8. Ah ok mate, I am sure I can find the right screws, god, use to know this stuff off the top of my head back in the day lol. Thanks anyway Jon
  9. Ah ideal, so no problems screwing it in, to be honest its been a while since I have mounted an amp, whats the best type of screw for this job? Cheers Jon
  10. Hi, Ok, well apart from my ignition barrel problems which will be gone on Wednesday I am halfway through an ICE install, got a new head unit fitted, RCA, Power and Remote cables wired, sub ready to go. So the Amp, I was thinking of attaching it directly to the back of the Octavia Mk1 rear seats. Wasn't going to bother with wood or anything else, was just going to screw it in there, has anyone done this before? And if so, what type of screws did you use, and any problems with it, ie does it actually attach ok to the reat seats. The 2nd question I have is the earth wire, where is a good earth point in the boot? Thanks & Regards Jon
  11. Ah ok I didn't realise, its in the Haynes workshop manual of how to get the whole thing off so can't imagine it being a big thing, plus the Skoda manual says a special tool is required to remove the steering wheel lock, I don't need to break the lock, as I have the keys I am trying to remove it so I don't have to remove the whole ignition barrel/lock/switch. Amazing that I need to do all this because a 1" piece of metal sheared off the lock :( Jon
  12. On a side note, the tamper proof bolts that hold the whole ignition barrel/lock/switch unit on, how tough are they? If I need to remove the whole thing I will, just wondered if I could get away with hitting them with a screwdriver head and hammer, and then just turning them to get them out??? Cheers Jon
  13. Ah, nice one mate thanks, couldn't believe it, nice shiny stereo which sounds amazing compared to my last one and I couldnt get it in, almost cried, will do it tomorrow when its light, thanks again Jon
  14. Hi, I have a Kenwood mask stereo, which to be honest has quite a lot of wires coming out the back of it, the usual speaker/power wires but also about 4 pre-amp wires and DIN connections. Anyway, fitted the cage, pushed all the wires into the little kind of space just behind and below where the back of the stereo would be, slid the stereo in and nope, wasn't having any of it, nearly an inch of stereo sticking out before it will "click" into the cage. So does anyone have any good advice on what I can do with the wires or if there are any other areas the wires can go?? Cutting the pre-amp and din plugs isn't an option. Thanks for any advice Jon
  15. Hi, The ignition barrel unit is made up of 3 parts, the barrel itself, the switch and inbetween those two is the steering wheel lock. Does anyone have any instructions on how to remove the steering wheel lock part? To be honest, it would be a lot easier if I could just extract the lock without having to take the whole thing off, I do not know if it comes out or is part of the whole unit, so if anyone has any instructions on how to remove it, it would be really appreciated, got replacement parts but to be honest its only the lock part thats broken and it would be so much easier if I could just replace it rather than taking the whole thing off. Thanks for any advice Jon
