  1. +1 for the cold weather. I got the same problem if i do several short trips (home-supermarket) every winter...after the first 30+ miles trip all the scum is gone.
  2. [OT] For the first time in more that 20 years, snow came and stayed here in Holland. Result? Countless accident, apart form the (sadly) deadly ones, a bloke declared on TV :"i was driving just 40 MPH in the bend and i found myself without apparent reason in a ditch"....DUH!
  3. My Discs are now over 135.000 miles and last set of pads lasted over 50k miles... lots of highway, less than 10% city on a 12/2004 Octy 1.6 MPI. Changed my rear pads once at 75k miles.
  4. Santa claus had suddently decided i was a good little boy and so, under the tree i found the "old" laptop of my brother togheter with the Vag-com  It didn' take long until i succesfully activated DRL Usa style (dimmed at 60%) and auto lock/unlock of the doors. I'm now thinking about retrofitting the cruise control, (as i can activate it via VAG), on the net you find loads of complete kits (lever + wires) but the question is: How does i know if my car is " cruise control ready"?? I noticed several kits are intended for Octies after 07/2005, i own a 12/2004 Octy II 1.6 MPI Ambiente. Thanks in advance for any help Andreas
  5. It would be nice, but as i haven't a laptop, i'll need a 20 yards cable...
  6. Sorry if the argument was already discussed, but i had no luck with the search function. Question: i'm about to buy one of those OBD "service reset" units off ebay. I noticed that for VAG veichles there's two version, one for can-bus cars and one not can-bus. Wich one should i buy?
  7. My mileage is quite high, let's say that i drive 30 k a year, but i thought about switching to a 5W30, and following the user manual is possible with services at 15k. I'm aware of the fact that newer cars have long-life with 5w30, some says is valid also for "older" ones (mine is a 12/2004) but i'm in doubt as is my case or not...that's it.
  8. My 1.6 MPI came from factory with variable services, approx. every 30.000 km, with 0 w 30 oil conform to VW 503.00. I'm now over 200.000 km and i was asking myself if would it be possible/recommended to switch to fixed services (15.000 km). If that's the case, wich grade and VW specs should have the oil? Thanks in advance.
  9. I'll answer you here also for the other thread ( Who's got the biggest mileage? - BRISKODA - The Skoda Forums ) I converted the car when i had about 3.000 km (1850 miles), here it costed about 2000 euros (1800 GBP), for a sequential injected Landi system. I decided to to keep the spare wheel in place so i got the classical cylindric tank (60 litres nominal, but as safety measure a valve blocks the refilling at 80%, so let's talk about 46 litres) If you want to see how much space is left, tomorrow i can take a couple of pics of the boot. Only problem i had was a premature "death" of the injection rail at 120.000 km (75.000 miles) rail caused by several refuels with poor quality LPG togheter with a guilty lack of care from my side (forgot to change the filter and in place of 9500 miles i drove the double :thumbdwn:), replaced it with a regenerate one for less than 100 GBP. On the economical side i'm pretty happy, here 1 litre of LPG is about 44p (49 eurocent) compared to the 1,3 GBP (1,44 euro) of unleaded 95. Down side, at the actual moment the conversion of FSI and TFSI engines is not possible, when i buyed my Octavia i choosed the 1.6 MPI (code BGU) on purpose, as is know as one of the best engines to convert.
  10. 208.000 km (129.000 miles) on a 1.6 MPI converted to LPG, replaced 1 fuel pump and 1 lambda probe, that's it.
  11. I had a similar problem due to an imperfect alignement of the rear quarter (funny it showed off only after 1 and half year). Following sone other owners, often -like in my case- the responsible is the zone around the rubber i evidenced in Yelllow. For a quick test, covering it with electrical tape will be enough.
  12. :+1: Got a friend that moved to UK and registered there his LHD car... quite a long and expensive process (i.e. changing the headlights to UK specs),higher insurance and -of course- the difficulty on driving on the Left with a LHD car.
  13. I recently had the opposite problem a couple of weeks ago when i came to a weekend in Yorkshire with my LHD Octavia. I think it's not a big problem if you don't mask your lights but i'm a "perfectionist" Well, i got ripped off of 9,95 euros (8,5 £ ) by Halfords for the damn stickers, and i just discovered it's quite easy and painless with the good old system of "get in front of a wall". If you just want to be 100% legal in half a minute without removing the headlights you just have to put the "round" part of the specific stickers, or just some duct tape on the section of the headlights i marked in blue in this picture (the red one are for LHD cars) and that's it
  14. ***WARNING: English is not my first language, expect mistakes*** :P Good evening to everybody, For 5-6k miles, thanks to a stupid garage guy that could not read a OBD scanner, i drove with a malfunctioning lambda probe. My car is LPG converted and while the emissions are ok on gas, (that works with his own ECU) on petrol are quite high, not enough to make me fail the APK ( the Dutch MOT) but anyway worrying. The technician of the LPG garage told me that a possible cause could be the many miles drove with a fail lambda could have "corrupted" the datas and a solution could be a reset of the original ECU. The question is: must i take the car to a dealer or the simple trick to disconnect the battery for some hours will work? Many thanks in advance. Andreas
