  1. Yes thats what I needed to know- Thanks for the advise. I do have another fob that was my spare, I'm just trying to build this unit back up to a working condition so not too much pressure if I break things. Cheers
  2. Hi, Does anyone here know how to get the transponder chip out of the key fob. The flip mechanism of my 2 button remote fob has broken. I've managed to split the fob into 2 pieces and also managed to split the half with the battery in (thanks to this forum) but not the key half! The key blank part is still in working order and works when all pushed together, its just the metal part of the flip casting thats broken. I'm hoping to buy a used key or spare shell part to move my key and transponder into it for a minimum cost solution. Any ideas? Thanks
  3. Had to change sump as it had a hole in it. It had already been welded before apparently! I'm not sure how many garages are prepared to try and weld aluminium sumps. It came far cheaper than the one they quoted me but they did say they thought it was a mis-manufactured one as its now not possible to get a ring spanner on the drain bolt. Might have to mod a flat spanner to change the oil. Anyway, at least I can now go and get the oil off my drive somehow
  4. Thanks for the replies. It went into a different garage today as it turned out to be a sump leak which they spotted when they changed the air con pump. I got the new sump and silicone on ebay for £38 incl VAT Sump fitted £70+VAT The rocker gasket can wait to see if its still an issue.
  5. My '04 estate is bubbling with rust under the edge of the glass all the way along the tailgate and same here its the only rust showing anywhere. In trying to improve the appearance I've run some 20mm black electrical tape over the glass/tailgate gap. (On a dry day to eliminate trapping water) I'm not sure how long it will look good for but its a heck of an improvement for now
  6. I've just been told the same about the gasket only being supplied with the cover.(Main agents!) My garage wanted £160ish +VAT to swap the cover etc. I didn't think that was affordable right now so would be interested to know from others who have fitted gaskets only. Where did u get your gaskets online and how much have you paid.? Cheers
  7. Managed to get myself run into the day after (20 hours after) picking up my car. Was absolutely pristine condition and now has scratches & scuffs all over the front wing and a chipped alloy wheel. Gutted! Off to garage on Monday for an insurance job repair.
  8. I just purchased 2004 SKODA OCTAVIA 1.9 TDI LAURIN + KLEMENT I'm so excited about picking it up tomorrow after selling my old 1998 Octavia Estate a year ago. I've had a Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi for the last 12 months and its horrid to drive! Anyway I'm glad you guys are still here Cheers Keith
  9. It's ordered. ebay inc postage at £24 Will let you know how I get on. I might need help identifying the codes! Thanks for the help so far. Keith
  10. ap0gee linked to this code reader in another thread. Will this one read the extra turbo codes etc I'm after? Might be simplest and handyest solution and about the right ££ remembering i have a 1998 TDi
  11. Both fans are running fine. Nut is on comp pulley and pulley feels secure with auxillary belt still in place. I have now managed to re-create the noise when stationary with my head under the bonnet. AC switched on and a brick on the accellerator to increase the revs a little. It sould like a spitfire (aeroplane type) but its so loud that I still can't tell where its coming from :( Seems to be mid down the eng compartment on the off side. further back and higher than the compressor Sound a lot like a blowing exhaust but obv that wouldn't shut off with AC button. Might need to get it up in the air to examine from underside. Cheers Keith
  12. Thanks guys, So it sounds like my local garage has a basic code reader. He told me he had all the same gear as the main agents but it seems not so I hope he reads this thread. Can anyone recommend the cheapest code reader that I can buy myself that will get to the codes I need. uk ebay links would be good. I am very computerate and have a preference for serial port but dont know what would work with my vehicle. If I just need a special cable and software and chance of links to items people know work? Thanks in anticipation. Keith
  13. Hi, I'm suffering with limp mode and turbo issues at the moment so while my car was in my local garage for something else I asked them to read any error codes for me. He said that if the engine management light was not on then there would be no errors reported, is this correct ? I asked him to check anyway and he said he did and there was nothing there. Does this sound feasible or should I start looking for another garage? Thanks
  14. Thanks for the replies everybody. You guys were right on the money Servo hose was split in 2 places, did a temporary repair and it fixed the problem The pipe is quite brittle so have just been and fetched some replacement hose. Cheers Keith
