  1. This sounds very familiar to me, have you changed the gear box oil ? I was sceptical at first and was waiting for it to recur but after some long journeys it seems fine. Hope you find a cure soon, post the result. Mick G
  2. Hello ggireland, I am glad its cured your car as well, I notice you also have a Roomster, I wonder if its a Roomster problem or perhaps to a specific gearbox. Mick G
  3. I have been to my garage and paid for the gearbox oil change, I asked how much oil is supposed to go in, they said 2 litres was recommended and also added the extra 1/2 litre of oil, I have to say it works and a lot cheaper than a re-con gearbox, my garage has experienced similar grumbling gear problems before and fitted re-con gearboxes and happened to have a chance conversation with a technical guy who said he believed that the problem is with lubrication which is easily fixed by changing the oil and adding the extra 1/2 litre of oil, my car has only done 28K and the garage has recently had a car in just out of warranty with the same problem both fixed by changing the oil.. so if you have the same problem change the oil in the first place and hope its fixed. Mick G
  4. I will check for you, my garage always uses the right V A G oils, I will be going in Tuesday to pay so I will post a reply.
  5. I have got the car quite hot on a decent journey and the 2nd gear seems to be cured, it just shows its either the gearbox oil change or the little extra bit of oil, job done ! Greatly relieved Mick G
  6. The oil has been changed today at the garage and I have been for a razz round tonight to get the car good and warm, the gear change feels different going up into 2nd and so far not a grumble, apparently it is a known issue with some VW gearboxes and the advice seems to be to put V A G oil in and slightly overfill with another half a litre from the original specification and that cures most, I am a little sceptical but we will see with the passage of time, I still cannot reconcile why it only happened going up into 2nd and its been perfect in all other gears up or down, here's hoping its not a more fundamental gearbox fault that will cost me a lot more money compared to an oil change. Mick G
  7. Hello Grafitti, I have never had crunch when its been cold, I have been out this morning for quite a while and its been as smooth as silk, about 30 minutes driving sets it off, like you if I slow the gear shift down to go up to second from first thats the only time, its embarrassing at a junction especially when its up hill. It will be doubtful it goes in the garage next week hopefully the week after, my mechanic says it could also be a worn selector plate but why only when its warm and only one gear ?
  8. Hello Guys and Gals I own a Roomster 1.4 D on a 07 plate, I have been reading the tech article on changing up from 1st to 2nd gears and getting a grumbling but only when the engine is hot and only that gear, the others are still changing as smooth as silk, I am amazed to read about another member with the same problem, I hope mine is as easy to fix with a gearbox oil change, the car is booked in the next couple of weeks so it will be watch this space! How good is this that members can come on here and browse for similar problems and solutions. Mick G
  9. Thanks for the reply, I called at Rainworth Skoda and they were very helpful, it appears its a mechanical fracture caused by the pipe being too taught inside the rubber concertina boot between the back door and car body, there was no spare pipe what so ever, the mixture of screen wash was fine and I have not had a problem with it freezing this winter, the break was between the ribs of the pipe and not longitudinal, if you flex something back and forth long enough like opening and closing the door it will break like this. Skoda sell a repair kit which slides over the pipe and has an O ring you put over the end of the pipe and it clicks together, you do this on the other end of the pipe as well and the two ends just clip together, problem solved. If I could figure out how to post a photo I would, anyway its wait and see if its successful long term but the repair fitting has given it about an inch longer pipe than I had.
  10. Thanks Fordfan, I have been trying to think of something about the right diameter to fit inside the pipe, brake pipe might fit the bill just right, there is little spare movement in the pipe near the break and its near the joint in the door, if that does not work I may order the appropriate part from Skoda, the pipe starting from the rear window jet to the joint above the boot floor , its the most awkward place to repair and I am surprised its broken in the first place. Thanks again Mick G
  11. Hello Guys and Galls, This is a cautionary tale about the rear washer on a Roomster, the washer failed and after some investigation involving removal of trims to track the water back to the leak, it was found that the pipe was snapped at the bendy hinge at the top of the back door, has anyone else had this and how was it fixed if you have, there is no room or spare pipe at the break and its taped into the loom, suggestions anyone ? Mick G
  12. Congratulations on a brilliant day out, so many Skoda's, anyone see the crowds when the Yeti's arrived?, looks good, remarkably like the Roomster.........dont you think, I think I may have to save up to buy a Yeti.
  13. Hello Red Rooster, I am another Roomster owner from 1st of February, I think you will enjoy the car I certainly have, I got mine from Skoda in Mansfield, Like you this was a lifestyle choice the car having a good driving position for a tall guy like me. Yes you are right, perhaps the Briskoda site could be more user friendly to navigate but its a mine of useful information. Mick G
  14. Hi , Had a Roomster 1.4 TD since 1st of Feb, if you are doubting this model try a test drive, we tried a few other cars before we settled on a Roomster, my old car was a beloved Escort Estate TD and sorry to see it go but you have to move on, I went in a friends Octi and was impressed but the Roomster did it for me, nice drive, you sit higher which is more comfortable if you are tall, clever use of space and the back passengers have commented on the superb view, and not a word from the Pope so he must be impressed. Mick G
  15. Hi Guys and Gals, I have enjoyed looking at the forum, some good advice. I have bought a Roomster 1.4 TD, its a lovely comfortable drive and I am looking forward to testing it out on a run a bit further afield but we still have snow here in Nottinghamshire. Mick G
