  1. Thanks Pete, just been a stolen dads relay so I’ll try that in the morning. I’m not trying to do it in the dark with a torch. im struggling with the Haynes wiring diagram as there isn’t one! So I’m using a Passat wiring diagram as the closest I can find so your colours are very helpful! The only pin I was getting a constant 11.9v with the engine off was with the neg in pin 1 and pos in pin 2 at the wiper motor. cheers!
  2. Thank you. I’ve located the relay and it appears to be clean inside with no evidence of any burning. Though it makes sense to be the relay at fault. I have 4 terminals in the plug to the wipers and only one is giving voltage. I assume 2 are for the varying speeds? I’m going to see if I can rob the relay from my dads car and see if it works
  3. Evening. having an argument with my wipers. They’ve stopped working. I can hear the relay clicking as I engage the stalk, I have voltage at the plug that goes into the motor, but the wipers aren’t moving! I have 2 different wiper motors here and neither work! any suggestions hugely appreciated as I can’t drive in the rain with no wipers anymore 2004 mk1 superb, 1.9tdi awx. 330k miles. Besides this, everything else is working as it should be! thanks
  4. its been a few years now since I replaced my top mounts but im certain they don't have a bearing in them. because of the multi link suspension set up, the strut pivots rather than rotates... im sure its just a solid rubber mount. have you checked the universal joints on the steering column for play. you can see one of them if you get your head down under the pedals. failing that, id firstly be checking all of the ball joints. jack the car up and give the front wheel a good wiggle. if a ball joint has failed it most certainly could transfer back up to feeling through the wheel if its that bad.
  5. Hi, Could someone please help me with the location of the G179 drivers side crash sensor? Im finding conflicting information, some saying its under the seat some saying in the door. Ill be honest, Ive looked in both and I cant see it! but there really isn't much info on the Mk1 superb for this. Appreciate any direction. Cheers.
  6. Thank you very much. This is what I had always assumed, with Cylinder 4 (the one I have a faulty injector on) being by the flywheel. my query came as id read somewhere that VCDS/VAGcom read these back to front??
  7. Evening. after many evenings replacing a worn camshaft, lifters and a load of other bits in the process, I still have an intermittent misfire on cylinder 4. Ive run VCDS and established that this is a faulty injector. Can anyone tell me is cylinder 4 at the front or the back? as in, which is CYL1. I have a replacement coming from Darkside developments but don't want to replace CYL1 by mistake. Thanks.
  8. I have not yet seen the invoice and what it says but the fact they had a card reader made me very suspicious. I have told her to contact the bank and report the transaction as suspiscious if only to prevent them from gaining access to the funds for a little while while i work out what has gone on. the ticket was issued by the local council i believe. my dad has unfortunatly had a pretty tough 12 months, he was made redundant, they reposessed the house he was renovating for him and my mum to retire too and then he spent a bit of time in hospital after colapsing a few times and was diagnosed with a condition similar to parkinsons, so with all that going on, remembering a parking fine payment is pretty tough i guess :( i would have thought that for them to gain access to private property and imobilize and seize goods in that way they would have to produce a warrant or have the police with them to enforce such notice? powertools would have been my approach although i do have some slimline sockets which i could have used to remove the wheel and put the spare on chucking the clamp in the boot, but my mum was so shocked she didnt think to call me.
  9. my mum went to southend last year and paid and displayed her parking ticket. during her walk around said grotty town, she was given a parking fine as the ticket was not displayed correctly. a hot day, she left the windows slightly open to stop it cooking in the car and the wind blew the ticket down the front of the dash and only 2/3 was visable. obviously she argued this case took several photos and took it to court where it was upheld which is a joke! the evidence speaks for itself and there must have been cctv footage confirming the purchase of the ticket. my dad is positive he paid the fine after the court hearing. last week, 2 debt collectors turned up un announced at my parents house, came onto private property and proceded to put a clamp on my mums car at 8am. when she came out of the house and saw her car she was being video recorded by one of the men and was being very forcefully instructed to pay up. (she made a recording of the guy on her iphone) typical thugish belittling behaviour. they demanded nearly £700 and even had an electronic card reader with them which my mum in the end had no choice to pay as she needed to get to work. is this legal practice that no further warning letters be sent or a warrant of some form being given by the courts? i was not there but i feel my mum may have been subjected to a scam. even the clap was a rusty old lump of junk with a mobile number written down it in pen. if anyone can give me any advice on this and what if anything we should do now i would be greatful. thank you.
  10. Hi Mate, Im not around on Friday, i have to work all day with meetings etc. If you are not working away too far, i would already be making a 400 or so mile round trip so a few more would not hurt haha. just seems getting hold of one of these is bloody hard and mum is desperate for the car back as she is unable to work without it. could that work? cheers, Joe
  11. Thanks Max, I see you are in south wales. I would be driving to you from kent, a trek i know and would look to do it tomorrow aim to be with you by mid day and back home for work by 5.30..... sounds like a long day but need to get mums car back on the road by the weekend. my number: 07716353491 if you could drop me a text as soon as you have more information and i can go get the cash out of the bank. Thanks very much. Joe
  12. im just after a turbo for my mums car asap. if you could let me know that would be pretty good. thanks
  13. long shot... but is this still available???
  14. my gearbox on my mk1 octavia vrs decided it was the end of its life last night, shooting the diff pin through the bell housing :( so now i have no choice but to replace it, something i would only do with a recon or new unit. what i was wondering is, what are the difficulties/deiiferences in changing to a 6speed box? is it a straight swap and the linkages all stay the same and i will have a 6th gear for better economy? any advice would be handy, especially if you have done the swap. thanks in advance
  15. wishbone bushes or worn shocks. id replace wishbone bushes first. dont go and buy patent parts, get the powerflex bushes it makes a huge difference to handeling, tyre wear.. the whole lot.. id never look back
