  1. Exactly the same on an Elegance 1.4 16v 2001. Had the problem for so long we never lock the car. Bonnet up = no intermittent wipe which leads me to think, from this forum, that there is a bonnet microswitch. Where on earth is it? There is nothing on the latch, nothing anywhere inside the wing/front lip. In fact, I'm certain there is no microswitch at all so why does the intermittent go off with bonnet up (and EPC light on - engine not running; with engine running all symptoms the same but no EPC lamp lit). Lamps flash when setting alarm/locking - all as normal. If anyone thinks this car has a bonnet microswitch could they post a pic, please?
  2. Found battery retaining bolt/clip, replaced battery and all's well. Now need to watch for something draining the battery but it was bought in 2005 so probably just failed - on a drop test it only gave 30amps. Thanks for your prompt replies, guys.
  3. Car has been OK apart from usual 1.4 16v EMS light fault and dead aircon & power steering going off intermittently. This morning would not start, nothing on ignition key but all lights including headlights OK. Second attempt similar but clicking noise behind dash (this stays on when key is removed). Third attempt as second but now no lights at all only radio. Subsequently radio also failed (bad news don't lnow code!). Tried charging battery but meter went to 5amps then to zero and doesn't budge. Will get battery tested as main suspect but interested in members' input. Edit: - OK, how do I get the battery out?!
  4. There is no adjustment pin that I can see & it seems that the entire unit is integrated. What EXACTLY are you guys talking about? I agree with previous post - it's a design fault and should be fixed for free.
  5. Our 2nd car is a low mileage '98 1.3 LXi. The n/s rear susp unit has just broken, the spring seat on the s/a has rusted thru! Easily fixed with a new susp unit but is this a common fault?
  6. Before 30,000 mile service = 45mpg; after, 40mpg. Ditto Fabia 1.4 100bhp. Why?
  7. Felicia LXi 1996. Just had work done & radio is dead; needs code & we don't have it. Is this a main dealer only job? TIA & apologies if already answered elsewhere.
  8. LOL! Car going to main dealer - if the darned lamp will stay on! Thanks all.
  9. Thanks, Ross, I'll look tomorrow. Mind you, when I first read your reply, I saw "Pop off, you airbox....!" so nearly ignored you. Cheers.
  10. No-one got any ideas about the EMS warning lamp, then? Not sure re Skoda dealers - local one quoted min 2 hours labour to change the battery in the key fob!!! :-) Idiots; I remonstrated and told them just to change it and hang the consequences ("it'll uncode the key, Sir") & all was OK. Heaven knows what they'll charge for an EMS check.
  11. Hi, I'm new here, so apologies in advance for any transgressions of etiquette etc. We have just bought a 2000X Fabia that, this morning, has illuminated the EMS warning lamp; car drives OK. Guy I bought it from (dealer) is very helpful. I can take it to a backstreet guy (he's OK) and have it reset or a main dealer - v. expensive & poor reputation! Any ideas as to what it may be, or is it so complicated it could be one of a zillion things? Is it a common problem? Should I go to the main dealer? Have to say that I've had cars with EMS chips for yonks & never a problem. Also, the (light blue) metallic paint seems very susceptible to chipping. Again, is this common/normal? Other VAG cars have been excellent. And the driver's seat rocks back & forward about a quarter to half an inch; it's not the runners. Odd. Otherwise, the car is mint. Having dropped a size from an Audi 80, I'm very impressed. Over to you knowledgeable guys...
  12. Hi all, As I'm pushing 60 it was time to buy an old man's car, a Skoda! :-) Have had VAG cars since new Sciroccos and Audi Coupes years ago. Now buy 2nd hand. Married, 1 son at Uni, live in Norfolk. Have a Skoda Phobia, sorry, Fabia 16v Elegance 2000X. Seems OK but a few problems; see new thread re EMS.
