  1. I might have been a bit facetious in my last comment 😅 I haven't checked prices of vegetable oil - it's not something I buty much of. Wholesale, I'd guess it's probably doubled in the last year like most other foodstuff.🙄 A few hours reading online and a couple of YouTube videos isn't much hardship to be fair. 🤷‍♂️ The only money I've spent so far was to get the other car through its MOT ready to be sold 👍
  2. Yeah, you're right. It'll be completely impossible to find out how local restaurants and takeaways dispose of waste veg oil before I first spend thousands on a project that relies on it. If only there were a way I could find out this information first. Maybe the whole idea is too ridiculous to consider, since it would be impossible for me to find this out.
  3. 🤣🤣🤣 Must be a lot of cooking oil, surely! Fortunately, I'm nowhere near Aberdeen or Liverpool, so hopefully these issues won't affect me 🤞🙈
  4. I haven't asked yet. I'm hoping that they have to pay to get rid of it 🤞 But even if someone else collects for free/pays for it, I'll still be buying for pennies per litre instead of £s 🤷‍♂️ Worst case, there's another 4 chipshops in town, and the retail park with McDonalds is next door to me too! 🤣🤣 I have a few things to tidy up on the other car before it's sold, so I could be a few weeks off buying the vegmobile, let alone getting any work done to it. I've got plenty of time to search for vegan juice.
  5. Not yet, but I'm only a hundred yards from a chip shop 😆
  6. I agree most people would probably be better off working to earn the difference in fuel prices. I'm not really doing this for an economic reason. I have a spare car, which I need to sell for around £6k, and thought it might be an opportunity to get a "fun" project car. I don't expect fuel prices to go down any time soon, so the conversion seems like a sensible move for something "fun".
  7. I should probably clarify the setup I envisage: TL;DR I've done a fair amount of planning and research for the fuel system, I'm just trying to work out if there's enough space to fit another fuel tank in a way that looks "OEM". • Car starts on diesel (probably premium diesel to help clean the injectors). • Once engine is up to temperature, the fuel supply switches to a separate tank filled with veg oil - probably waste veg oil (WVO) pre-filtered to <5micron, possibly thinned using 3% kerosene-free (for tax purposes) white spirit. • I'd keep all relevant paperwork as proof of what has been produced (ie. I'd try to stay below the 2,500l/yr limit for fuel duty). • The veg oil passes through a heat exchanger to lower the viscosity before hitting the injectors. • Before engine is shut off, fuel system is purged to return veg oil (and a small amount of diesel) into into the veg oil tank. I've given some thought to electronics for automatically switching to veg tank once temp is reached and fuel level is enough, switching back to diesel is veg level is low, purging fuel lines with ignition off etc. This could all easily be done manually, but automatic would be pretty cool. I would also like to change some parts like intake, injectors, and head bolts to the PD150 versions (probably turbo, exhaust and intercooler if budget permits) and remap to ≈170bhp on diesel, which might give ≈160bhp on veg oil. Nothing wild - just enough. From my memory owning a Fabia, there wouldn't be space for a second tank. From my memory owning an Octavia1 (1.9 TDI L&K 😏) there would be space under the boot floor for a tank. Like I said, I understand the 6 speed is meant to be more durable than the 5 speed, so it seems my choices are Octavia 4x4 (which would make a cool vRS replica) or Fabia vRS... 5 speed would probably be okay, but it seems then even then I don't gain the under-floor boot space of the Octavia1 😔
  8. There seem to be enough people doing it with the 1.9 TDIs and SDIs. I think it's the DPF that stops it being used on newer engines.
  9. That's annoying 🤔 I might have to look at putting a tank to one side of the boot. I don't like the idea of being without a spare... I'm happy with the 1.9 - it's a good engine, and I really can't be arsed with all the hassles of a DPF.
  10. Are you saying variofloor actually reduces the space available under the floor? I'm aware the Haldex clutch, pump etc is all attached to the diff, I just wasn't sure if there were two different floor panels used for models with/out 4wd.
  11. On the Mk1, there's space for a spare and a tank - on the Mk2, is it just space for a space / spacesaver?
  12. I'm looking to buy an Octavia 1.9 TDI PD 4x4 for a conversion to vegetable oil and a few modest performance mods. I was looking at the 4x4 because it has the 6 speed gearbox, which I understand is stronger than the 5 speed. Anyway, I was wondering about the space under the boot floor - on the Octavia MK1, I know there's space for a spare wheel and a second fuel tank, but I can't find any information on the Mk2, especially with 4x4 (does the haldex take up boot space?). Does anyone have any info? I've attached a picture from a Mk1
  13. has not been hindered in the slightest by the snow. XD

  14. I have heard nothing of such a car...? I can completely see where you're coming from, though. The Superb is a great car, and you can't knock it as a luxury car. I personally think it would be a great idea... But I doubt it would sell. The Superb, it is slightly let down in the details. In my mind, an L&K version would have to be a "Superb CC" because from some angles (3/4 view), it's simply lumpy when compared to (what's in my mind its closest VAG rival) the Passat CC, which is incredibly elegant. Obviously other details as you pointed out would have to be addressed as well. You mentioned black 18" wheels - I'd like to see a white saloon/hatch one with a bit of a bodykit (similar to the Octy vRS, but a bit less extreme) on black Fabia vRS wheels. Talking of bodykits, why isn't the 3.6 V6 version a true vRS like the old Passat R36? THAT would be one hell of a spectacle. I think the major problem is that the Superb is a very good value car. For example, the new Audi A1 can set you back up to £18k, compared to a (less equipped, admittedly) Skoda Superb which can cost as little as £16.5k. Why would they make a Superb to rival a top-spec VW or Audi? If someone wants more from a VAG car, they then have to pay £20,000 more to get a VW or Audi of the same spec rather than just £1,500 (guestimated) on a better Superb. On a seperate point that you raised (not to knock the popularity of Skoda - in my opinion, since being owned by VW, they're probably the best cars available in terms of price, depreciation tax, fuel economy, performance and functionality), I believe the reason there's a waiting list for some Skodas in the UK is that they're waiting for the Euro to drop in value against the pound so that it's more economical to import... Until then, there's a "waiting list".
  15. True. I was about to say this. Virtually all cars have had DRLs fitted since the beginning of this year - Superb SE and Elegance aren't special in this respect (special in many others though lol). The 4x4 won't be THAT much better in snow. Pulling away, it'll have less wheel spin, but with regards to stopping (the most important bit to avoid a collision) you'll have the same problems as anyone else if you don't have winter tyres. Recently fitted Mud 'n' Snow tyres on my 4-year old 1.2 Fabia and they're brilliant. Have a look at what Honest John says. The 3.6 V6 is a damn nice car though. I'd LOVE to have one, but I'm still trying to justify to my employer why I want a 1.8 tsi SE (preferably with 4x4) as a company car next year.
  16. Perhaps a bit late now, but I found it http://www.accessories.skoda.co.uk/productdetail.aspx?p_no=ZGB6Y0061625
  17. Apologies. Sorry, that was a generalisation of the average owner of such a car
  18. http://briskoda.net/forums/index.php?app=forums&module=post&section=post&do=reply_post&f=3&t=153397&qpid=1939861I'm glad you agree. In my opinion, a 2.0 petrol vRS look faster on paper (9.6 seconds 0-60 is slooooow) but people don't realise that in gear the original vRS could go from 40-60 in 2.4 seconds. In real life, how often do you go from 0-60, and how often do you go from 40-60? It's weird, but makes sense As for the 3.0 V6 Octy, they do a 3.6 4x4 Superb. It's more expensive than an Octavia would be, but you could buy 2 of them for the cost of its nearest rival. And as for the Quattro Octavia, I thought they did them :S. I know a guy in the Czech Republic and I remember going sideways out of control in the snow in a 4-wheel drive Octavia vRS with winter tyres (Yes, the snow was baaaaaaaaaad) but maybe they get more options over there than we get here. I can't see Skoda making something like a Toureg or Q5/7. People that drive Skodas aren't cocks. I REALLY hope they don't. It would possibly make me sell my Skoda and move on to supporting Kia instead. They're meant to be pretty good nowadays too.
  19. In my opinion, Skodas are presented fine. They offer the serious build quality of VAG, but without the helfty pricetag, or the German-ness (IMHO, German cars take themselves too seriously, whereas Skodas are a bit more "cheeky" for want of a better word). The Superb is a hell of a bargin, by the way - and even with one of the puny engines, it doesn't hang around. Compare this to one of the competitors, and it's a no brainer unless you need a differet badge to accentuate your manbulge. The only bad things I would say are; the new Fabia is STILL hideous and the new Fabia vRS is pointless when there's already the Ibiza Cupra and Polo GTI running the same engine, chassis etc. (The point of a Skoda is to be different and possibly a little odd - hence the original vRS running a diesel) The rest of the range is spot-on though
  20. Try Seat Surgeons They apparently do a special deal if you tell them you're on Briskoda. It's typically between £800-£1000 for a retrim depending which of their vast options you choose. Front Seats Passenger Seats Front Door Rear door Headrest Stitching Alternatively, I found (a couple of years back, now) a site that sold Skoda spares, and they sold sets of vRS SE leather seats for £1,300 new. I can't for the life of me remember the site name or URL, but at least that's a price guide. Another modification that I'd like to see is like the body coloured grill - except buy some of the chrome interior stuff (as shown here) and get it sprayed body coloured. I think that might look nice... But I've never seen anyone that's done it.
  21. I reckon... Cupra splitter, body coloured grill surround, black alloys, VW shark fin ariel, and leather upholstery (I don't like the standard vRS interior to be honest). Usually, I'm not a big fan of large alloys on the Fabias, but if you're willing to add the bigger Audi brakes, they can look really smart as well. Also, go for the Octavia vRS badges because - in my opinion - they look nicer than the Fabia ones. More on fabia-vrs.com Need some before-and-after pics too, by the way
  22. I understand that the 1.4 TSI Fabia vRS WILL be coming out no matter what I think. Last I saw thugh, the 1.9 TDI PD was still being sold... I'm not saying Skoda should be able to make nicer or more desirable cars - Skodas are good quality and sold cheap. CHEAP being the main word. As such, they should be allowed to make cats in their own way without changing what they have been doing to try to conform. As for the original vRS; it was a hot hatch. Not because it had masses of power or ****ed away your fuel for the sake of it, but because it had more torque than a Porsche Boxter. As such, while its 0-60 time was pants, its in-gear acceleration was mind-blowing. Fused with a return of more than 50mpg, it's so mad that it makes sense. THIS is what makes it unique. 23. I was planning on starting with a Sport because they're pretty well equipped as standard. Besides the numbers and gearbox, what's the big difference? I'm struggling to find any resources on them And what's wrong with making my own vRS? Skoda have gone waaaaaaay off-track with theirs, and I just want something like the original but more updated :p
