  1. Funny that you should post this today when I am looking at doing the same. Rather than doing it the hard way like this, I think I'll try hard wiring a USB female extension cable and run it into the glove box from behind? That way I have a more universal plug I can use for an MP3 player, Satnav, PSP or whatever. I'm no electrician though, so I'd need to be pretty confident that I was doing the right thing before attacking it. If you could provide some photos of how you complete the job, that would be top banana. I couldn't find any threads on getting to the switched live behind the headunit, has it been done here? EDIT: Googling leads me to something like this being an ideal solution. It'll add another fused circuit to the car by plugging into the fuse box. Just need to find a fuse that turns on or off with the car as you need. The existing cigarette lighter circuit perhaps? Running suitable wire from that device to a stripped-out 12v -> 5v USB car charger to step the voltage properly insulated etc., or in your case a car charger built for whatever you want to charge? Fuse box -> 'Add-a-circuit' -> Your device/generic USB cigarette lighter adapter-> device to be charged. Could anyone with electronic knowledge better than mine think why that wouldn't work?
  2. Small bump, this is a great mini-tutorial. What is the name and size of the star shaped tool required for this job, please, and where would be the best place to obtain one?
  3. After a -7C night last night, the engine management light has come on in my Fabia 1.2 comfort. I allowed the car to idle until reasonably warmed before leaving, but sometime before getting out of the car to let it warm, and getting in again, the EM light has come on. Google/these forums suggest that it could be one of a zillion faults, from a cold sensor in the exhaust to infinity and beyond. The sheer number of complaints/questions on the issue suggests that some of you will have experienced this too; so, should I stay put and venture to the garage when it opens (tomorrow ...), or head 70 miles home? Might this be caused directly by the cold, (or the new brake disks and pads I had fitted 3 days ago?!) No responsibility held on the advice given of course, I'm just in the need of some scope on the problem at hand. Thanks chaps.
  4. Thanks to you all I've avoided KwikFit, and just got back from my local Skoda dealership who had parts in stock, had a slot open 45 minutes after my phone call and were all done in an hour for £165. Thanks again chaps.
  5. Roger, roger. I'd love to know even if its in the right ballpark, there must be someone who has had the same job done in the last six months? Domo
  6. Ahoy, I'm the proud owner of a blue Fabia 1.2. On the last service/MOT she was flagged as needing front disks and pads replacing, so I'm looking into having them done. Kwik Fit have already quoted me, and are doing their lifetime replacement offer, but I used to work with a Kwik Fit fitter whose garage was less than honourable, so I'm going to avoid them if possible. Something that sounds too good to be true usually is.... What should I be paying for the front disks and pads, including labour? Kwik wanted £229 all in for it, is that any good? Thanks for the help in advance, chaps
