  1. The only strange noise of late is a constant drone (like an aeroplane in flight) but with no dip in performance or noticeable knocking sounds. I'm hoping it is just a sensor. In the event that it is an issue with oil pressure, is this going to be a costly job? I'm already about to shell out £400 for timing belt/pump/service in next few weeks.
  2. Cheers Bodge, To be honest i've ignored checking the oil as i knew it was going in for the service but its not had an oil change in 14k miles, so every chance it needs some, i had to take another car this morning and had no time to check the level, will do this when i get home and buy a ltr just in case. I know that flashing red oil indicator ain't a good sign, hoping its only a sensor and nothing too sinister ! D
  3. Hi All, Flashing oil warning light (red) came on as i pulled away this morning, duly left the car at home as i have no oil stored. Does this light generally signify low oil levels or can it be anything else? In fairness the car is due an oil change (booked in 28th Sept) as part of the service. Can you advise me how much oil I will have to add? I will check the level when i get home, but need to know how many litres to buy today of the correct 5w 30 (540 00 spec) oil, would rather not put £40 -£50 worth of oil in when it will be replaced again at the service. All advice welcome. Thanks in advance. Des
  4. Cheers Dave, I have PM'd a local contact in Glasgow from the list, hopefully i can get it checked, just wondered if anyone had a similar issue with the engine noise?
  5. All, Apologies for my ignorance with all things mechanical, i love Skoda's but not fixing them or diagnosing problems !! I have owned my vRS for over a year now (2005 52K miles). Over the last week, the car is noticeably noisier (from around 30mph upwards), it doesn't sound too menacing but its not normal. Sounds like a whirring noise from the engine, almost as if its revving harder when at low speeds. The car has been sound since day 1 and is booked in for full service, timing belt and water pump replacemennt on 2nd October. The car is standard and has been running on Super unleaded for a year. I had a 1.8t prior to this car and never heard this noise. All advice welcome, there are no warning lights and I don't want to go to a garage to run VagCom if it may be an obvious issue. Apologies if this is this is vague but I'm just trying to get advise from some other Skoda lovers !!! Many Thanks in advance Des
  6. Thanks Simon, I've neglected the finer details and hope to rectify that this weekend ! All the best Des
  7. Morning All, Could someone please recommend a product for cleaning the exhaust tailpipe? I know brasso and various other products have been mentioned, but I am keen to get the correct product to get this looking as new, on the inside and outside of the tailpipe. Any advice welcome. Cheers Des
  8. Cheers Alan, It is a big boot and i want to fix it but my wife might lock me in for a laugh !!!! I'll try anything to fix it as i don't want to buy a new unit if its not required, it doesn't seem to be making the full whirring sound when the disc cartridge is inserted, it makes a brief noise then nowt Is it on its road out???? D
  9. cheers, i'll keep at it, hope it starts working again cause I quite like the unit. Any further ideas if that fails greatly accepted Des
  10. Thanks Guys, Its now stating CHK MAGAZINE and surface error has gone Any ideas? In the past switching it on and off has worked but this time it does not like it Cheers Des:confused:
  11. Hi There, Apologies for what may be an old question, but i have been getting a SURFACE error when trying to use the CD Changer. Upon contacting the dealer i have tried cleaning the discs and checking that no water had got in from the rear washer pipe. I am wondering if this requires a new grundig changer, i use this all the time and its become a real pain, all help and tips greatly accepted. I've tried a couple of head units (inc MP3) but the old faithfull symphony has been good to me and i'd like to keep it if possible Maybe a good (reasonably priced) auto electrician could take a look, i just don't want to be shafted if its something simple Cheers Des
  12. Thanks Len, I thought likewise but don't want to shell out nearly 130 quid only to find out it won't play copies. I'd need to order it online as they don't have it in teh store. You would think that it would play anything at that price (Others that do under 80 quid) I'll need to check it out further Cheers Des
  13. Does anyone know if this model of portable dvd player will support DVD-/+r discs? I'm looking at buying one but the store website states CD/DVD/MP3 only. I know others are available but i'm using vouchers to buy it, hence limited to this model. I know that cheap versions costing a lot less play copied discs, but would appreciate some feedback from anyone in the know Cheers Des:)
  14. A local garage have left the interior of my Octy grubby following some work:mad: . This includes the beige door panels (cloth), beige plastic under light switch and the passenger seat (looks like an oil mark) I know...Its a lot of beige !! Any ideas on best products to use for seats/plastics gladly accepted. I keep the car really tidy and clean, so this is teh first I've had to do the upholstery. Cheers Des
  15. Cheers Stu, Good advice he reckons that it would need to go into the bodyshop and it would cost
