  1. Thanks for all the replies so far. I am hoping that as many of you have found the ventilated seats comfortable there may be a problem with my seats, although I suspect it will be hard to convince the dealer that there is. Has anyone had experience with both the ventilated and non-ventilated seats and if so have they noticed a difference. As I said before I find it strange that I had no problems in the previous car yet such an uncomfortable experience in the new one.
  2. Has anyone had a similar experience? I swapped my 2009 Elegance 170 TDI for a new 2012 Elegance 2.0 TSI in March. I have the ventilated seats in the new car. In my first car I was able to get the seat adjusted comfortably and never had any problems with backache on 400 mile plus journeys. Unfortunately on my new car, despite 3 months of trying to adjust the seat I am unable to get a comfortable driving position. I know there is a lengthy thread about adjusting the seats and I have followed the advice there but it has not made much difference. Other people who have driven the car have also found it impossible to get comfortable. The problem seems to be that the back rest is very firm and the only point of contact is around the middle of the back. This has the effect of making the lower back move backwards and the shoulders come forward. The lumber support does not come up high enough to support the lower back properly, the passenger seat is similarly uncomfortable. (For reference I am 5’ 10” average build and 30” leg). This is getting to be a serious problem as my back is hurting after my 6 mile (10 mins) drive to work. I will be spending 5 weeks driving round Europe over the summer and need to get something sorted out. I will be going to see the dealer about this as I think it is a fault with the car but I can imagine them saying it is my problem and I just need to adjust the seat properly. Does anyone know if the seats are different between the petrol and diesel models, have they changed in any way on more recent cars or if the ventilated seats are significantly different in their shape and upholstering compared to the non-ventilated seats. Has anyone any experience of a car seat being badly upholstered? I am at a loss to explain why my first Superb was one of the most comfortable cars I have ever driven yet the new on is the most uncomfortable vehicle I have ever driven. Any help appreciated Thanks John
  3. Thanks for the detailed response. The dealer i am buying the car from is also a Revo agent, i believe that some of their employees cars are remapped as well so that is why i have no concerns over warranty issues. Now i am just trying to justify spending the extra money on the remap. John
  4. Thanks for your detaild answers. I will maybe wait a while then consider the remap.
  5. According to the Superb brochure (June 2011) the option ‘Availablefor all models’ is: 'Electrically operated boot with automatic parcel shelfretract (estate only)' £525. There does not appear to be an option for an'electrically operated boot' without the ‘automatic parcel shelf retract’. I assumedfrom this that the 'automatic parcel shelf retract' option at £60 is availablefor those who do not want the 'electrically operated boot' but do want the'automatic parcel shelf retract'. I hope this is the case as I ordered my carfrom this brochure and am expecting it to have the auto retract shelf. Wouldyour car have been ordered at the same time this brochure was current? If so itshould have the auto retract. John
  6. Track my Skoda reports that the 2.0 TSI DSG Superb Elegance Estate Ihave ordered has just been built. When I ordered the car the dealer suggestedthe possibility of them doing a REVO remap which they said would improve fueleconomy, torque and power. I know that the 2.0 TSI engine will be more than adequate formy needs and am not concerned about warranty issues (which I know have beendiscussed at length in other posts) but I am interested in what real worlddifference the remap would make especially compared to my current 170 TDI DSG Superm (not remapped). Am looking for some information from members who haveremapped this engine to answer the following questions to help me decide whetheror not to do the remap: 1) I tow a large trailer tent around Europe for around 5 weeks each year and am pleasedwith how easily my current car maintained 80 mph whilst towing up steep stretchesof motorway. Will the standard torque of the TSI engine be able to achieve thesame result or would the extra torque from the remap be needed? 2) Although I am aware that mpg figures are dependenton driving what sort of gains in mpg have members had following a TSI remap? (thedealer quoted up to 9 mpg improvement) 3) Again I know insurance premiums are based on thedriver and their driving history but what sort of increases in insurance are likely? 4) What differences do you notice in day to daydriving following a remap? Many thanks in advance for your assistance. John

  8. I have the upgrade sound system in my 2009 Superb and wasalso disappointed. As discussed elsewhere on this forum the sound did improveover time but my personal opinion is that the speakers and the way they aremounted cannot handle the power from the amplifier particularly if you listenat a volume high enough to get good base reproduction. I too listen to a lot ofclassical music but have not listened to much music since getting the Superbbecause of the poor sound quality. I now tend to listen to talk radio thereforeI have not opted for the sound system in the new Superb I have just ordered. Myprevious car (an Omega estate) had a Bose system fitted and was far superiorhowever it also cost more. May people on here have reported that they like theupgraded system and I wish I was one of them as this is the only aspect of thecar I have not been completely happy about. :(
  9. Update It took longer to get round to doing the upgrade but I managed today using Carl's instructions. All went as described and all fully working. I also managed to pair my new Samsung Galaxy s which works well although it too 10+ attempts to enter the 16 digit code. Thanks for all the help again John
  10. Many thanks for the quick concise reply Manny and Carl, I have the disks (thanks for the link) and will try the upgrade tomorrow. John
  11. I would like to install the V7 maps and 2760 firmware on the Columbus unit in my Superb II Having read extensively on these forums please could someone confirm that my understanding is correct and is as follows The 7260 firmware will work with my unit – I do not know the revision number of the unit a b c etc. but the unit was supplied with the car and the car was built April 2009 The new firm ware is needed to enable 7 digit post code input The age of the car means that there will not be any power drain issues Upgrading the firmware and maps will not wipe the HDD Thanks John
  12. has not set their status

  13. Thanks for your reply. I have spoken to my dealer and they (after some discussion) have said that there should be an audible signal when turn signals are activated and they want me to take the car in to investigate. They say that I will have to put up with the rear parking sensors sounding when the trailer is connected as they are not disabled by connecting the trailer electrics. Although page 115 of the owner’s manual says: ‘If the vehicle is equipped with a factory fitted towing device, the sensors are deactivated when towing a trailer. The driver is also informed by the radio or navigation by graphic display (vehicle towing a trailer) on the display.’ The dealer also says that the rear fog lights are not disabled despite on page 58 ‘Only the rear fog light of the trailer lights up automatically when you are towing a trailer using a factory-fitted towing device which is fitted to the rear fog light.’ When I connected my trailer the bulb failure light came on, on the dash because I had not connected the lighting board properly (7pin N connector at the rear of the trailer) I find the lack of dealer knowledge frustrating when you are paying so much for a Skoda factory fit tow bar which is supposed to integrate fully with the car. PS does the Superb have a trailer stability programme? Or have I just imagined this? PPS I am also annoyrf about the missing connections although i only run a fridge because i have a trailer tent.
  14. I wonder if anyone can help. I connected my trailer up to the factory/dealer fitted tow bar and electrics today and was surprised that there was no indication that the trailer electrics were connected. There was not light on the dash, no buzzer when I used the indicators and the rear parking sensors were still switched on (I thought the Skoda electrics disabled the rear parking sensors). I also thought that connecting a trailer enabled a towing stability program. The external lights on the trailer all work as they should do but it seems like the car does not know that a trailer is connected. Is this normal or have the dealers not coded the car correctly?
  15. Hi Ray I have just tried importing the Tower Of London and got the following vCard BEGIN:VCARD VERSION:3.0 CATEGORIES:VIP X-VIPCategory:Private ADR;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:;;Tower Hill;London;London;;United Kingdom X-NAVADDR:;;;;;;;;; GEO:51.508598;-0.07633 X-Flag: REV:20070614T125300z FN;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Tower of London, Tower Hill, London, London, , United Kingdom UID:AddresBookPersistentProvider3 END:VCARD Before I could sync I had to install v3.04 of the software. I uninstalled adobe air and NavCompanion before installing the new software. This time I was able to specify a destination folder on my SD card during installation, so I can now sync straight to my SD card. The destination imported onto my Columbus with no problems and I was able to select it and calculate a route to it, I am not sure why your vcard did not contain all the correct information. Not sure what you can try next.:( John
  16. I remember reading somewhere that Outlook doesn’t save the correct information for the Columbus to read. There are two examples of vCards below. The first is a contact exported from Outlook the second is from NavCompanion. As you can see the two are quite different. I think that the line starting GEO gives the GPS coordinates for the location and this is what is used by the navigation system. The address is only used as the name for the memory entry. 17. The information given on p 25 only refers to the possibility of entering destinations from an SD card. I have worked out what to do with help from several members on this forum, including fisher-diaz who has given me the last piece of the puzzle. First you need an SD card (no bigger than 2GB) Connect the card to your pc and copy an mp3 track to it(this is needed to allow the Columbus unit to recognise there is an SD card inserted) Use your PC to create a folder called “destinations” Go to http://vwlabs.com/ and create an account (they don’t list Skoda cars so I said I had a 2009 Passat) You will get an email to activate your account. Once you are logged on chose NavCompanion and follow the instructions on the site. Before you can sync the destinations you have found using NavCompanion you have to install the sync software. Once the software has installed you can sync the destinations to your PC. (The first time I tried this I thought that nothing had happened but the destinations had been saved to the SD card.) The second time I tried it (after a software update) the destinations were synced to a folder called “destinations” in My Documents and all subsequent syncs have ended up there. (You just need to copy them to the “destinations” folder you created on your SD card.) Now remove the SD card from your PC and put it in the Columbus unit. The mp3 you copied to the SD card should start playing. Press the Nav button Press memory on the screen Then press edit memory Press Import Destinations Tick the destinations you want to import and press OK The imported destinations are now stored in the destinations memory of the Columbus system I hope this is of some help
  18. My understanding is that 5 digit entry is the only option possible at the moment and has bee the subject of much comment on this forum. It is a problem that effects many other car makers’ navigations systems. Some people have said there may be updates allowing 7 digit entry in the future but I haven’t seen any firm dated for this.
  19. P25 of the Columbus manual say that you can import destinations from an SD card. I notice that the title has an asterisk by it denoting this is optional. I have tried importing destinations saved using the VW Labs navcompanion but the option to import is greyed out on the edit destinations menu. Can anyone advise if this is because I am trying to import the wrong format of destinations or if it is a feature not enable on the Columbus at the moment. (I have an mp3 track on the card and the system plays this)

  21. Is VBR variable bit rate? If so how do you enable tis in EAC. Many thanks JAB
  22. My Superb is due for delivery in the next few weeks and I have started thinking about converting my music collection to MP3 or WMA. My previous car had a Bose audio system and CD changer that couldn’t play mp3 audio so I am looking for some advice on getting the best playback on in the new car (I have opted fro the upgraded sound system). My main question is should I convert to MP3 with some loss of quality or can I use WMA with lossless compression? I will be using EAC to do the conversion. I know that the Columbus unit reads MP3 and WMA but does that include the lossless form as well? I know that some threads have covered some of this but I cant find a specific reference to the 2 types of WMA. Also file size is not too important as I don’t have a vast music collection.
  23. Thanks to all for their quick and informative replies. I have ordered my car today and am in the process of getting Nokia 5800 phones for both of us. I know these are not listed in the current brochure but i don't think they were out when the brochure was published. They are listed on the German site mentioned in another thread so I am hoping they work.
  24. I am about to order my Superb and am in the process of sorting out new phones to work with the Premium Bluetooth. As both my wife and I will drive the car does anyone here know if you can quickly pair different phones or does the SIM card need to be read and downloaded each time a different phone is paired with it? Also if i had the same phone as my wife would this cause 'confusion' with the car phone?
