  1. Check that the grease on the gearstick joint hasn't dried out. Lift the gaiter around the stick and you'll see where the bottom of the stick sits, spray some silicone lubricant around while moving the stick through the gears. I had the same problem on my first Mk1 VRS years ago, I've just bought another as a run around and sure enough was difficult to sometimes get a smooth gear change, did the lube on the stick and alls good.
  2. I must have been unlucky. 2015 VRS bought new by me. Drivers seat side squab wore through at 13K miles (2 years), Skoda didn't want to know anything about a warranty claim. Engine started to breath oil at 22k (few months after warranty ran out) so got shot before anything major wore out. Very disappointed overall compared to the Mk1 VRS that I had before it. Ironically I bought myself another Mk1 VRS last weekend as an interim car until my current Italian Mistress (Maserati Gransport) sells, and I still think the Mk1 was built out of better quality materials, OK no bells and whistles but a good basic (by today's standards) quality car but at banger prices (I paid £850), 94K, FSH, 2 owners etc.
  3. The Mk3 I was very disappointed with, drivers seat side wore through at 13000 miles and two years old, Skoda didn't want to know about a warranty claim, then at 22000 miles it started blowing blue smoke under acceleration and oil residue around the oil filler cap! My old Mk1 never used a drop of oil and the seats where just showing signs of wear at 140000 miles. Yes the Maserati is a completely different beast, Ferrari derived V8, 400bhp, flappy paddles etc, everything you would expect from what is in effect a Supercar and I really don't want to sell, but if I'm not comfortable driving it there's no point in keeping it (I have a lower back injury).
  4. Hi all I've been away from Briskoda for a while since selling my Mk3 Octavia VRS last year, but before that I was a member for 14 years. Started in 2004 when I bought my first Octavia VRS, Carrida red with just 9k on the clock, kept for 11 years and took her to 149K. Then sold her to help finance a brand new Mk3 220 tfsi, kept for just over 3 years and not a happy experience! Sold it last August to by an Italian Stallion, Maserati Gransport (male menopause!), however I can't get comfortable driving it so is up for sale. I'll now get to the point, won an ebay "Best Offer" on Sunday and went to Plymouth on B/H Monday to collect, Mk1 Carrida red Octavia Vrs, 94k, fsh, two owners from new (father and daughter) and in pretty good condition, just needs a little TLC like a couple of front tyres, wipers etc. Best bit was I only paid £850 for it!
  5. I've renewed my Freedom status so I'll be advertising it on here as soon as it's back from having the wheels refurbed, that was the only thing letting the car down really. I'm going to put her up at £14k and leave a bit of haggle room, I can always drop (a bit!)
  6. I about to start a new job that comes with a new company van (I can use for private journeys), my wife has a 14 plate Polo TSI and I also part own (with my son) an old Galaxy for towing purposes. Because of the above I'm probably going to sell my Octavia, but I'm not sure how much to put it up at and what to reasonably expect to get. [Comprehensive spec removed] Be kind to me all please Ta Andy.
  7. I've run a K&N filter in my petrol VRS almost since they day I bought it (April 2015), 24K and no issues whatsoever. When it went in for servicing I told the dealer it was fitted and they were fine about it. The car has run out of warranty now so it's time for a remap.
  8. Had mine on my 2015 VRS TFSI for coming up three years now without an issue, set on 2+2 since the first week I fitted it.
  9. Well I didn't expect my old car to appear again. CheeRS Dean for highlighting it again, I have sent a fraud warning to Gumtree to say it's not the spec it says in the ad and about the previous rip off actions of the guy who bought her from me. Makes me cry to see what's been done to her, if I had the money I would buy it back and return her to her previous spec.
  10. £34k for a new 245 Octavia!! I would sooner by a few months older (mid 17) Audi S4 with between 3k and 5k miles for less money.
  11. They definitely look better with all the clutter removed, did my VRS within 3 days of collecting new from the dealer.
  12. Just got back from the 4 wheel geometry check, and the N/S/R was toeing out a tad so the car has been adjusted. Certainly seems to have helped and the car feels more settled on the road, however I forgot to ask them to check the inner side of the tyre for damage so it looks like I'll have to get my trolley jack out. I also went and saw a fellow Rally competitor who runs a large group of VAG approved body shops, and got a very favorable price to repair the n/s/f wing where a woman drove into it and bogged off, and to diamond cut and refurbish my wheels. Maybe the car isn't so bad really, probably just me being overly sensitive to niggly problems. I part own an old 130Tdi Galaxy with my son for rally car towing/servicing purposes, maybe I should drive that solidly for a week and then get back in the VRS as I'm certain I'll appreciate it again!
  13. I'm taking to get a Hunter 4 wheel tracking done on it this morning and inspect the n/s/r tyre to see if it's been deformed, which wouldn't surprise me considering the state of Britain's roads. Some main roads in Gloucestershire are akin to driving down farm tracks they're in such a state! But I guess it's the same Country wide . Esseesse200, I had a DTUK box fitted up until a few weeks back as it was going in for a major service and I've not refitted (for sale @ £225), however I'm thinking of going for a Revo Stage 2 remap if I keep it, maybe that'll put a smile on my face!
  14. I was ready yesterday to go and look at a 61 plate 2.0 TFSI A4 Quattro until I realised it's fitted with the same engine as the the Mk2 VRS that suffers from timing chain issues.
  15. Yep I'm up for it (if I keep the car)
  16. I bought my Mk3 220 TFSI VRS brand new in April 2015 after owning a Mk1 VRS for 11 years and 147000 miles. I bought the Mk3 on the back of the Mk1 as it was such a good car, never used a drop of oil or water and the only time it saw any spanners was for routine servicing, and the customer service was brilliant. Case of point was that the front wheel bearings started to rumble with 4 days remaining on the 3 year warranty, without any fuse they were replaced without any fuss whatsoever. Now onto the current one. I ordered quite a few options including the electric sunroof which has creaked since it was a couple of months old, goes back at least once a year "to be adjusted", the rear armrest leather (if that is indeed what it is) started to sag after 6 months, "Sorry Sir 6 months or 6000 miles on interior items" was the answer I got when I mentioned warranty, but bare in mind the rear seats have hardly been sat on. 12000 miles and I noticed some of the stitching on the driver's seat side bolster was starting to lift, by 13000 miles and 18 months old the bolster had worn through! Skoda UK didn't want to know about any warranty work to replace it, again they came back with 6 months or 6000 miles on interior items, said it was fair wear and tear, AT 13000 miles! . However my local dealer agreed to pay for half of the cost to replace the seat cover (thank you Blade Skoda Gloucester), but still cost me £250. NOW, this week the n/s/r wheel bearing is starting to rumble @ 23300 miles, 5 days after the warranty ran out. I have completely run out of faith in it and I'm wondering what's going to wear out or fail next, it seems so fragile against the better materials etc of the Mk1. It's not worth a lot (Evans Halshaw offered £12585 in p/x against a £25k 14 plate Audi S4). How can I restore my trust and enjoyment in the car, or shall I cut my (huge) losses and buy something with better build quality.
  17. Another way in which Skoda have taken a backwards step, the Mk1VRS mats could all be bought seperately.
  18. I bought some Ebay specials, they have the VRS logo stitched in and put the originals in the loft. Good quality and cheap (around £25), at that price I can afford to replace them yearly.
  19. I have had a DTUK box fitted to my 220 TFSI Octy VRS for the last 2 years and it's brilliant at what it does if the cars under warranty, however I don't think it's quite 100% like a proper live remap. I ran Revo maps (Stage 1 and later Stage 2) on my Mk1 VRS and were faultless.
  20. A bouncy ride is normally caused by shot shock absorbers and nothing to do with the spring.
  21. Mine on Eibach springs and spacers front and rear.
  22. I'm glad the photos are similar colours etc as it makes a good comparison, and a pre facelift VRS, because personally I think the new front end looks damned ugly!
  23. £32,000 for an Octavia!! OK it does have a lot of options but still, that's ridiculous for what is supposed to be VAG's budget manufacturer. A quick look on Autotrader and for the same money I could buy a 2017 Audi S4 with around 8000 miles on it, I know what I would prefer and where my money would be going, and certainly wouldn't be the Octavia.
  24. I have fitted a small 6" JL sub and enclosure, I used the wiring from tha Canton sub (which to be honest is ****e) to drive it. If the standard of the sub is anything to go by then the door speakers are probably ****e quality as well, I've just never got around to looking.
