  1. If I fit buy a steel spare wheel for my Octavia SE sport, will I also need to find different wheel bolts to fit it or will the ones used to retain the alloys be suitable? If I need different bolts do these come as part of the Skoda spare wheel change kit Pt No. 5E0093860 or do I need to source elsewhere? If so any suggestions where?
  2. I made the mistake of purchasing my SE Sport 1.4TSI without a spare wheel - just the gunk and pump. I have been looking at buying a steel wheel and tyre from somewhere such as Tyreleader. However they offer three alternative steel wheels all around the £33 mark - https://cars.tyreleader.co.uk/steel-wheels/skoda/octavia/octavia-2692/22896. After fitting a tyre this should work out a lot cheaper than £165 Skoda want for a spare. I have 17" wheels on my car with 225/45R17 tyres fitted. I understand from this forum that the standard Skoda full size spare for all variants of the Octavia Mk3 is a 16" rim with 205/55 tyre fitted. I would prefer to purchases a spare wheel as close a possible to the Skoda standard and would appreciate advice as to which of the Tyreleader alternatives would be most suitable. Only difference seem to be the 6.5 x 16" or 6 x 16" options. (I assume 6 and 6.5 are the rim widths)
  3. I need to purchase new front brake pads for my Skoda 2005 Octavia 1.6 FSI. A number of suppliers (e.g. Euro Car Parts) offer two alternative front brake pad options: one is suitable for fitting PR 1ZF or 1ZM and the other is suitable for PR 1LL, 1LP or 1ZE. How do I determine which is the version suitable for my car? The model description from the vehicle data in the service schedule booklet is: 1Z33K4 A5 SH ELE Transmission GYT 9102 CA 85KW BLF Optional extras - multiple 3 alpha-numeric references but none identical to the PR 1ZF, 1ZM, 1LL, 1LP or 1ZE. Would appreciate any advice.
  4. Thanks very much for the advice; I'm relieved. Just for the record the oil I used was 503.1 not 504.
  5. I have a 2005 Octavia 1.6 FSi set for flexible servicing. On collection of the car from the airport on return from holiday the low oil level alarm came on after a short distance. The sticker in the engine compartment suggested Shell Helix Ultra was the correct oil and I thought I was fortunate to find some 5W-40 in the next service station. I topped up with approximately 1/2 litre and continued home. This was about 3 months (2500 miles) ago. I have since discovered this thread and believe that what I really should have used was Shell Helix Ultra X (0-30W) or similar, to specification VW 503.00. The Helix Ultra 5W-40 I actually used to top up I now realise meets VW 503.01 not 503.00. Am I likely to have done any damage to the engine by mixing the two spec. oils? What will have been the effect of my action? The engine management reports that routine servicing will be needed in approximately 6 months time. Should I bring this forward to achieve a complete oil change?
