  1. Interesting take, thanks. Another general car dealer offered me £2800, so looks like I'm getting a Seat Altea.. with a view to approach the Roomster market in a year or two when the models with the newer engines are starting to be affordable.
  2. Took my dirty, battered, but beautiful 56 plate Roomster 3 (84k on the clock) to the highly rated local dealer, Derek Slack. A nice dealership with nice staff but I was alarmed by the lack of decent, reasonable priced replacement Roomies on offer... and what they had... oh my giddy aunt. There was a nice 1.2 TSI (85bhp) S on a 12 plate.. but I didn't realise that the S didn't have: Seat pockets on the back of the front seats. No glove compartment door No door on the compartment above the glove compartment Cup holders on the back of the middle seat No under the front passanger seat bin (I'm guessing) I know it's all piddly stuff, but it's basically all our storage and nothing can be hidden away anymore. Obviously, I expected things like cruise control, climate control, panoramic roof etc. to be missing, but it just struck me how skimping on £50 worth of kit makes shopping for cars such a dismal experience. Finally, my experience was topped off by the dealer only offering me £2000 :( for my Roomster.
  3. £12 litre of oil for all sorts of Skoda engines. Mine's a PD diesel so I'm linking to that one. http://direct.asda.c...default,pd.html Don't want to link to any petrol engine oil in case I get the wrong one!
  4. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh! Really? I was just hoping for a couple of rubber pipes being secured with new clips Will find out tomorrow, I guess.
  5. Things went from bad to worse, it ended up like I was steering a ship in bad sea. I literally had to haul the wheel hard with both hands on each side to turn a right angle corner! I popped into my local garage to see if they thought it was safe to drive, and even though it was closing time they had it up on the ramp and filled up the reservoir, then pumped my tyres up! He had me under the car and showed me both seals of the steering arms were leaking so I've got it booked in for Friday.
  6. I know this thread is old but it might help future generations, mainly in Europe. It will say 9GG if it's got a DPF and 0GG if it hasn't (all UK models)
  7. Yes it does, guess that means it's working and passed the working test. Would it also warn you if the power steering fluid was low? I have, thanks to your prompting, all present and correct. Must buy spares. Never thought of it before. Not in a Roomster, most unneverving. My Focus had a clearly visible reservoir to check, but the Roomster's is apparently underneath the battery! How easy is it to pop the battery out? I've booked in with the sole local dealer and it's not for two weeks! So I'm having a slightly scary driving experience to look forward to.
  8. For the last few days the power assisted steering has stopped working. Well, I think it's stopped working, it's hard (but not impossible) to steer at low speeds and at high speeds it's pretty normal (as you are going in a straight line, hopefully!). Looking at the Fabia forums and a thread on Honest John, I'm filled with all sorts of expensive solution horrors. It could be the PAS pump, the alternator, the Steering Angle Sensor or just replacing the fluid (which is impossible for someone like me to do - it's under the battery I think). Any idea where to start? There is no warnings of any sort on the dashboard, and in other threads people who have had low fluid have had a clear warning on the dash. Is there anywhere else to check for faults?
  9. Weeellllll... I did go side-on into a parked car at about 5-10 mph, and the only thing that happened was that our wing mirrors got bent back. I didn't think it would have caused such trauma.
  10. Thanks mannyo, so not a tyre place, I need to get myself to a garage? Safe to drive, got to get back from work y'see?
  11. Can I ask which set? http://www.motormec.co.uk/blinds.html I can only see codes for BMWs on their site.
  12. Hello all, I didn't dare post this in the general Maintenance and Performance thread as I thought I'd get a more sympathetic response from my fellow Roomstonians. I had a little skid about on the solid ice on the road in my street last night and ever since the steering is waay out... so badly that when the car is parked, and the wheels are pointing straight, the steering wheel is at ten to twelve... and here is the bad bit.. I drove to work with it like that this morning, it was like driving a slanty shanty. The question is what do I go to the local tyre emporium/garage and ask for? Steering overhaul, wheel alignment, wheel balancing? I have no idea and I worry about being shanked, as I'm new to the garages in the area (though it was my home town for 20 years) and I don't know which place is good and which is bad, so some advice here would be greatly appreciated.
  13. Not exactly ideal for a summer holiday though is it? Perfect if you were a regular mountain biker going off into the wilds at every opportunity, but not ideal when you want to cram as much beer, food, bread maker (yes - on a summer holiday), clothes, waterproofs (did I say I going to Ireland every year) AND family in it. Roof mounted bike racks are great because you always get priority unloading from ferries because your height means you can't go with the other cars.
  14. I've got some Thule aero bars and bike racks from my previous car so I was looking at the Thule configurator for foot packs and I can't decide which ones fit the Roomie's roof rails (dealer fitted). They offer Thule Rapid Railing 755 - which are the clamping type or Thule Rapid Crossroad 775 - which seems to be a rubber strap! Anyone got any recommendations, the 755 are the most common one.
  15. Can I ask, what are the three doodahs on the right for?
  16. It's actually my hometown too, wish I knew someone who could 'pop in' for you. A few years back a mechanic in the same town fixed my Focus, I left it with him for a week because I had to come back down here for work. When I collected it there was a pay and display ticket for a day in Scarborough. The cheeky sod had taken his family for a day out in it!
  17. The ebay dispute deadline is 45 days after payment - rather than the end of the auction. Does that help any? Did you pay by PayPal? Get the North East Skoda Meetup group to pay a visit with a sack of doorknobs?
  18. Where did you get yours from? I've searched the Honda accessory pages and found none. People tell me Honda dealers sell them.I've seen a few OEM parts. What do you think of this? HONDA S2000 CIVIC BLACK BEESTING AERIAL MAST NEW! on eBay
  19. I had friends just off Palantine Road in Withington or was it Didsbury, anyway, it was a good place to go for a night out. It was an easy bus ride from Sale, South Manchester. I lived in Sale for three years in a couple of properties and I liked it. It had good links to the city via the tram, and it was easy to get to the flesh pots of Didsbury and Chorlton-cough-Hardy. How about this, it says corporate client so I imagine they are desperate to sell - a cheeky 150k might tempt them. 3 bed semi-detached house for sale in Sale - Find a Property It's a shame Google Maps Streetview doesn't stretch to Sale, but it would be ideal to explore a lot of the Manchester properties you listed above.
  20. I've got a Roomster with the standard Dance HU and Skoda Accessories are offering two Gateway 100 products, one for maxi-dot cars and one for those without. Skoda Accessories page but Dension are only offering one Gateway 100 Dension Skoda Roomster Dance page I'm keen to buy not to buy one from my local dealer as I think they'll only supply it fitted - for a handsome charge no doubt. Anyone any ideas? I've got a Maxi-Dot btw.
  21. And lo, it was popped off! I got up this morning and had another go, unscrew, waggle and then it seemed to not be unscrewing any more, it was just spinning in the mount freely, so I give a little pull and off it popped. The secret is the little bit at the very end, that's the anti-theft bit See attachment.
  22. On the eco angle, true it costs a lot to produce a car but the problem here seems to be that there is a glut of cars already made, sat in huge car parks, that no-one wants. Skoda were offering the 15% deal on cars made before week 5/2009 so they must have a shed load to shift. This scheme would help get the Honda workers in Swindon back, likewise in Sunderland where they have cut Nissan shifts. Just run it for 6 months.
  23. Has anyone else managed to 'waggle' an aerial out of a Roomster? I've got the same problem as the OP but not as bad. I can get it in the garage if I tighten it tilted back a tad - however AM reception is appalling when I do that. I tried unscrewing it and waggling it but it wasn't going anywhere, and to be honest, I got the 'fear' that I was going to do some damage. Do I wait for a cold and frosty night?
  24. Cheers! I hunted down the fabia pics too and posted a corrected link. The one the search engine on here finds is out of date, it finds /fabia/ and not /fabia-i/ so returns not found. So, do non-maxi roomsters just have a black plastic oblong blanking plate? Looking at other maxi-dot implementations they seem to be able to do all sorts from auto closing the windows at the first sniff of rain, to changing the number of beeps it makes when you haven't got your seatbelt on. Is there anything else I can do with it? As far as I can see it: shows radio station id (and I believe id tag info from mp3s) temperature 2 x trip distance(s) 2 x mpg(s) miles left in tank Anything else? The reason why I was keen to nail down whether I had it or not was because skoda offer two Dension Gateway 100 products, one for Roomies with maxi and without. You can't seem to buy direct from skoda accesories, do I have to contact a dealer - I'm guessing they won't sell you one with them fitting it but how hard could it be?
  25. This thread has moved, because the fabia forum was renamed I guess, but google keeps pointing to the old one and it bugged me so much I thought I'd mention it.Here is the new location http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/maxidot-installed/97803/
