  1. Hi, Recently bought a 2019 Kodiaq, went to use the 12V socket in the centre console and found it wasn't powered although lit up. Then tried the 12V centre console socket in back seats and boot and found the same. After a bit of reading and faffing with the glove comparment I found the 20A fuse 40 for the 12V power was blown. I didn't have a 20A fuse to hand and tried a 15A one but none of the 12V sockets still did not work and the 15A hadn't blown. Its under warranty but wondered if anyone else has similar? Thanks Martin
  2. Hi labman, That's exactly what I am looking for, with postage it works out about £10 inc VAT per cap. I also checked with a Skoda Dealer and they are £13.75 inc VAT and they are still available. Thanks Martin
  3. thanks for everone's replies. Your right Golf-Fiend these are the whole centre cap, badge and surround. Will contact the dealer but expecting them not to have them or they will be expensive. With the scratches on the wheels needing a refurb as well I'm thinking it maybe easier to replace the wheels.
  4. Hi, I've done a Google search for them but am trying to locate where I can buy the plastic centre covers for the allow wheels on my Octavia as the centre badges is corroded. I'm guessing from the lack of success searching they are difficult to source and could be quite expensive? Any pointers or assistance appreciated. Thanks Martin
  5. I've got a 08 Skoda Octavia Elegance Estate 1.8TDI Automatic that's done ~65,000 miles. Recently I've noticed when accelerating I can hear a whistling/whirring noise from under the bonnet that gets louder when accelerating and then when at constant speed it lowers in volume. I did try listening with the bonnet open while increasing the revs and it didn't appear to be coming from the alternator and sounded more like it was from the back of the engine compartment. I've not noticed any smoke from the exhaust or the car using oil and have no warning lights on. It makes the same noise when standing still in neutral and increasing the revs. Not sure if it's relevant but some time ago the air conditioning made a slight grinding noise which stopped and the garage told me the clutch on the aircon pump had failed and just meant the aircon wouldn't work but wouldn't cause any further harm, As it was pretty expensive to replace I didn't. I took it into the garage today thinking it was something like the alternator, water pump or turbo and they took it out for a drive and think it is coming from the gearbox. They asked me if the gearbox had been serviced and gave me a number of a gearbox specialist to take it into. I'd appreciate any pointers on what this could be or further checks I can do to see what the cause is. I'm hoping its not the gearbox as I've heard that can be pretty expensive to resolve. Thanks Martin
  6. Took it into garage and they put diagnostic tester on it and it cleared the light but Im guessing if the oil light comes on again (low oil) Ill have the same problem. Will need to swap out the bonnet sensor switch
  7. I've read several threads on here relating to bonnet catch sensors and oil lights. As with other threads the amber engine oil level light came on continuously, I checked it and the oil was low and topped it up to the correct level. I drove hit home from the garage and noticed the light was still on. I read the manual again and several of the threads here and noticed that the light gets reset when the bonnet is open for 30 seconds and if the sensors broken the oil light wont clear. I noticed if I just pop the bonnet (not enough to hit wipers) the wipers work and if I sit in the car with all the doors and boot shut and the bonnet open the open door light doesn't come on. It sounds to me like the bonnet catch sensor is faulty. I did read a thread where someone suggested it is possible for a blockage within the engine to cause the light to illuminate but the dipstick look o.k I've done basic maintenance on cars before, how difficult is it to replace that switch? Thanks Martin
  8. I completed a Skoda questionnaire detailing my concern at being presented with a £400 bill and no real justification. Skoda UK phoned me to follow up on this and will be speaking to the Dealer to confirm further details. Thanks for the advice, Ill take the car into an air conditioning specialist.
  9. I have an 08 Skoda Octavia Elegance 1.9TDI Estate. I took it in for its 20,000 service recently to a Skoda Dealer and was told the air conditioning wasn't working. I'd been driving it a lot in the past 2 weeks and not noticed any issues with the A/C. When I mentioned this the Garage told me it's intermittent which also wasn't correct, I was then told, "well it may go at some point". The healtcheck check list shows "Pulley bolt for AC clutch loose". I was told this would be a new A/C compressor at a cost of £450. I am a little dubious (particularly as this was a service on a service plan) about this as I haven't had any issues with the air con even in relatively hot weather . This does raise a few questions: 1. Should I get a second opinion? 2. Is this a valid fault needing a replacement compressor? 3. If I leave this will it be a case of the air con will fail to work at some point? The car is 4 years old and has only done 22,000 miles, surely these compressors should last longer than this?
  10. Hi Wardy, Now you mention it. I recall reading that a dealer offering to throw in extra options when purchasing a new car isn't worth a lot as come resale time it won't be worth much. The only thing I don't understand is the Auto Octavias fetch more than the manual ones,, is the Auto option more functional i.e. like a larger Engine whereas leather trim is like metallic paint or alloy wheels i.e. more cosmetic? Or is it a case of the Auto's being more in demand?
  11. Hi, Thanks for all the pointers, I didn't consider the advantages to a buyer of buying from a dealer. All the cars mentioned have cloth interior and not leather. When I went to the Skoda site and searched for used Octavia's with Leather interior the results returned were all Laurin & Klement model e.g. http://www.skoda.net.r66.co.uk/carview.aspx?id=601265623 which obviously is not the same spec. When I bought the car I did ask the dealer about getting the same car in an Auto but he told me that the Auto option would cost as much as the Leather interior again i.e. Auto gear box option was same as leather interior. Overall I wasn't sure how much the Leather interior adds to the value of the car? Overall I think around 10-10.5 is around right price. Regards Martin
  12. Hi All, I'm going to be selling my 08 1.9 PDI Skoda Octavia Elegance Estate (Manual). The dealer offered me approximately £9K for it and Glass's valuation for private sale was around 11K (I realise the Dealer will always be less than private sale). It has metallic paint and full leather upholstery, done about 21,0000 miles and is in very good condition. To get a realistic value of the car I paid for a Glass's valuation report and included the extras on the car and mileage. I also attempted to look on Autotrader for similar cars to get an idea but didn't see any with a mileage as low as mine or with leather interior. The closest I could find was a Octavia II Elegance estate without leather interior and higher mileage at £10,995 or a Laurin Clement model. I don't want to set an unrealistic price for it as I know some people do and then have to readvertise it. I was thinking of putting it on for £11,500 to allow for negotiation with the buyer. Any views on this would be appreciated. Thanks Martin
  13. Hi, I have an 08 Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI Elegance Estate with variable length servicing and ~16,000 miles on clock. My local dealer has sent me an offer valid until December 31st 2010. The offer is Servicing for 2 years or 20,000 miles for £299 fixed cost. Including: 1 x Oil Change at 10,000 miles or 12 months 1 x Inspection Service at 20,0000 or 24 months 1 x Dust and pollen filter at 24 months 1 x Brake fluid change at 24 months 1 x Fuel filter 1 x Air Filter £100 voucher for Skoda Accessories. If my car was on fixed intervals I think this would be a lot easier to work out if this was worthwhile. Has anyone else seen this type of offer and does it appear to be good value? Thanks Martin
  14. Thanks psycholist, called the Skoda recovery number today and a guy came out who removed the Wheel and calliper and found some kind of small fruit stone stuck between the heat guard and the disk. Thanks again. Martin
  15. Hi, Around December last year at around 14,000 miles the service interval indicator light lit on my 08 Octavia 1.9 TDI every time I started it. I took it into the Skoda dealer where I bought the car and they told me it must of been missed on the last service but there wasn't anyone able to reset it on site due to mechanics being on lunch break. I haven't had a chance to get back to the dealer until now. The car's developed a screeching noise from the front wheel and I need to take the car in to be checked. After checking the service schedule today I noticed it is missing its first interval service stamp. The service schedule has the delivery Inspection page stamped on 07/03/2008 and shows the next service as 10,000 miles or 07/03/2009 (whichever comes first according to service interval display). The label in the front of the service schedule shows "QG1" which the schedule lists as variable length of service intervals. I bought the car in February 2009 when it had done 11,600 miles so assumed it had been serviced at 10,000 miles. I'm a little concerned that the service schedule not being stamped and the service light not being reset means the car wasn't actually serviced. I did notice the invoice for the car does mention "Service" as one of the items but I don't recall this being mentioned when I bought the car. This does raise a couple of questions: 1. Is there any way of telling whether the car was actually serviced by the dealer? e.g. should the dealer or Skoda have paperwork or record to prove it was serviced? 2. If it wasn't done and this obviously affects the warranty is the dealer responsible for doing it i.e. they should of picked up it hadn't been serviced before I bought it? The 2nd Owner of the vehicle page also wasn't filled in (amongst other paperwork) when I bought the car, I've completed this and will get the dealer to stamp it when I go to get the wheel checked. Thanks Martin
  16. Hi, I've got a 2008 Octavia 1.9 TDI that's done 15,500 miles that has just recently developed a squealing noise from the driver side front wheel. I've tried: 1. Dropping it out of gear - makes no difference. 2. Braking - temporarily stops the noise 3. The noise gets worse the faster the car goes then stops around 30mph I'm thinking this is either the brake pads vibrating in callipers (had this on a VW Golf) or a worn wheel bearing. The car is still under warranty and booked into the local Skoda Dealer. However I'd like to know other people's opinion on here (always had good advice in past) and whether this would be covered under the warranty (the documentation with the car is very unclear on what is and isn't covered). Thanks Martin
  17. I checked the autochanger and that plays the same CDs (with 20 tracks) without a problem. The head unit CD doesn't though with the same CDs. The head unit is labelled "MP3 STREAM". I would of thought the head unit and autochanger would be the same technology and support the same CDs, maybe they are different and then head unit doesn't support the larger track CDs? I'll try cleaning the CD head unit and see if that resolves it. Thanks Martin
  18. I've got a Skoda Octavia Elegance with single CD in the front and a 6 CD auto changer in the rear. I've noticed when I use CDs in the CD player head unit with a larger than usual number of tracks the CD just keeps repeating the 1st track. Skipping the track just causes it to go back to track 1, I've noticed this on a couple of CDs and the one today had 20 tracks on it. The CDs are bought from a shop (not CDs burnt on a PC) and they don't contain MP3s. I haven't tried to see if the CDs play on the autochanger. Is this a limitation on the Octavia CD player and does anyone know if there is a way of resolving it? Thanks in advance. Martin
  19. Thanks for everyone's replies and responses they were very useful. I took the car into "New Again" in Chelmsford and although the dent was near the side impact bar the guy still managed to get behind it and push the dent out. All that is left is a few tiny (1-2mm) blips which don't show unless you know where they are. Overall unless you knew where the dent was there is no sign of it. It cost £60 instead of the £85 they initially quoted and I would recommend them to anyone. I found m0bov's comment interesting, I initially thought the Skoda dealership thought I was mad to consider spending £350 on a small dent (they weren't aware it was insurance that would be paying) but from m0bov's comment I think the dealers reluctance was due to the car being metallic silver and would never look 100% due to colour matching and blending in. Thanks again to everyone for advice. Martin
  20. I bought a 2008 Skoda Octavia Estate from TCC earlier this year. The sales staff we're very helpful and knowledgeable and the flowers for the wife were a nice touch. I have experienced a few minor issues though with aftersales: 1. At approximately 14,000 miles the service interval light came on which was odd as the first service had been done at 10,000 miles by TCC. When I took the car into them about this and minor bodywork repairs. I was told it was because the service interval indicator had not been reset on the last service. They then asked where it had been serviced, when I informed them it was done by TCC they offered to reset it. It was only when I prompted them before leaving that they mentioned all their mechanics were at lunch and could I bring the car back. It would of been more professional if this was mentioned without needing prompting. 2. They didn't mention when purchasing the car that I needed to phone RAC to get the cover that is included with warranty swapped to my name. I also found when speaking to RAC Skoda helpdesk that the car wasn't registered correctly with them. 3. They also didn't mention that I should call the security ID company to get the details transferred. When I did call them I found the car had never been registered. 4. A friend also bought a similar car from them and found the wing mirror was cracked and needed replacing and the optional protective polish hadn't been done correctly. It needed repeated chasing to get these issues resolved. To be fair these are relatively minor issues and sadly seem common place at many dealerships. As with most service industry requests nowdays, you have to repeatedly chase and escalate to get any real customer service. I have yet to have a service done at TCC but it cannot be any worse than my previous experience with a VW dealer that was bordering on fraud (repeatedly charging for services that weren't done) and dangerous (brake pad and shoe wear checks not carried out) shows there is a lot worse out there. Overall TCC seems a good dealership but the customer experience is reduced by some relatively minor easily resolved issues.
  21. Thanks for everyone's responses, I've booked the Octavia in with "New again" Chelmsford. From the posts I've read as ChipsAway are franchised the proficiency and experience of the technicians varies a fair bit. If they can't fix it it will have to go to a Skoda dealer to get it sorted. Although I've got the details of the person who crashed the door into mine I was trying to avoid a £350 (quote from Skoda dealer) bill for them and going through their insurance. Thanks again Martin
  22. I've got an 08 Skoda Octavia elegance estate(metallic silver) that recently had another car door open on and put a shallow dent that is approximately the size of a 50 pence on the middle of driver side passenger door. The dent hasn't cracked the paint. I had a guy round from chipsaway and after a short inspection he told me that the dent couldn't be pushed out from the inside as he couldn't get access due to a impact bar and various other obstructions inside the door. I also read a similar post here mentioning a plate riveted inside the doors of Octavia's making this type of repair difficult??? I then took the car to a Skoda dealer who gave me a quote for £350 to remove the dent spray the door and blend it in with the drivers door and rear quarter. The guy in the dealer did suggest taking it to a dent/scratch repairer but I mentioned I had already tried that. It's a pretty minor dent but on a relatively new unmarked car it sticks out like a sore thumb. Has anyone else managed to have this type of dent remove without having to resort to respraying the door e.t.c ? I'm going to call some other dent/scratch repairers to see if any other repairers have more experience of this type of damage on Octavias but would appreciate others comments and suggestions, Thanks Martin
  23. Thanks for all the replies. The average mpg seems about right for the type of driving, the only time the instantaneous fuel consumption seems to stay fairly constant is when the cruise control is on and driving on a level straight road (makes sense I guess). As one of the posts suggested. I imagine the fuel consumption at any instant varies widely but regularly hits the same mpg which means the cumulative average displays correctly. As mentioned here the instantaneous mpg would be more useful if it average over 10-20 secs. Thanks again for everyone's posts, good to know it's not an expensive computer going haywire. Thanks Martin
  24. Prior to having a Skoda Octavia, I had a 95 VW Golf in Tornado Red that developed a white bloom on the paintwork. I used Sonus pads with Meguiars DC1,2,3 on a Porters cable polisher after a wash and clay. Further details and before/after pics can be seen at: Meguiar's UK :: View topic - Tornado Red 95 VW Golf When I get the time I intend to polish up the Skoda. Regards Martin
  25. I've recently bought an 08 Skoda Octavia 1.9TDI Elegance Estate and noticed the current fuel consumption figure on the dash varies widely from second to second from approx 15mpg to 100mpg plus at constant speed. The average fuel consumption figures appear to be correct for the type of driving I am doing at the time but I am not sure the current mpg figures indicate some kind of sensor failure??? I know it's pretty minor but wonder if it indicates some kind of pending more serious fault? Thanks Martin
